One of the founding fathers of rock & roll and a true pioneer has passed at the tender young age of 90. Charles Edward Anderson Berry or better known as Chuck Berry had such classic songs like “Maybellene”, ‘Johnny B. Goode” and “Roll Over Beethoven”, that inspired so many young kids in the 50’s to turn to rock & roll music and rebel against their parents…in a great way!!!
His guitar work and songs mixed rhythm and blues into what is now known as Rock & Roll. He was a legend and his music will live on forever. And to think, if it wasn’t for Marty McFly, we might not have had his music (kidding – Back to the Future joke). Thank you Mr. Berry for all your greatness.
Here is a video with him and Keith Richards doing “Nadine” back in 1987.

The founding father. At least he lived a long life.

That he did. Can’t complain if you make it to 90.

I lived in St. Louis for 17 years, where Berry also lived much of his life. He used to occasionally perform at a club called Blueberry Hill and I regret never going to see him.

I always think of that Back to the Future scene too – his ‘cousin’ Marvin!

I have regrets like EclecticMusicLover above: “Chuck Berry” is my response when asked, “What music performer did you never see in person and wish you had?” The 1987 documentary “Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll” is salve for that wound, and includes a long segment with Keith Richards, pictured in your timely, respectful post.
