Friday New Releases – June 9th

It is Friday yet again and there are even more albums out and ready for you to go buy, stream or do with it as you will.  Not a lot this week, but one critical one for my kids.  The ones I will check out are highlighted in Blue.  I hope there is something for you.

  • 170x170bb-70  Katy Perry – Witness – (Capitol Records):  After 4 long years since Prism, Katy is back and better than ever…well…maybe not.  She has released 3 singles are ready and I have to say I am not that impressed.  I only like the first one “Chain to the Rhythm”, the rest have been kind of awful (especially “Bon Appetit”).  And I have to mention how awful the album cover looks to me.  Not off to a good start.  I will still give it a try though, but expectations are now pretty low.

  • 51qQOMb6CqL._AC_US160_  Lady Antebellum – Heart Break – (Capitol Nashville):  Lady Antebellum is back after three years and the members doing a little stuff on their own.  They are pure pop country, but I love Charles Kelley’s voice and Hillary Scott’s as well.  Put the two together and wow!!

  • 170x170bb-30  Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie -Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie – (LMJC Productions): Okay, this one is an absolute no-brainer.  Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie together is the next best thing to having a new Fleetwood Mac album.  That is all I need to know to give this one a listen. This might be first up this morning.

  • 51EBjvLeehL._AC_US218_  Glen Campbell – Adios – (UMe):  This is Glenn’s 64th and FINAL album and for that reason alone, it will get spun.  He has been diagnosed and struggling with Alzheimer’s disease and can no longer continue on with what he did so well.  I will honor this legend with listening to his final product.  The album is a covers album of songs he has always loved, but had never recorded.

  • 170x170bb-37  Rise Against – Wolves – (Virgin Records)
  • 170x170bb-58  Rancid – Trouble Maker – (Epitaph)
  • 170x170bb-31  Gov’t Mule – Revolution Come…Revolution Go – (Gov’t Mule, Inc.)
  • 170x170bb-75  Ani DiFranco – Binary – (Righteous Babe Records)
  • 61A3izat1JL._AC_US160_  Sufjan Stevens – Planetarium – (4AD)
  • 170x170bb-41  London Grammar – Truth Is a Beautiful Thing – (Ministry of Sound)
  • 170x170bb-71  Hillsong United – Wonder – (Hillsong Church)

  1. No worries for me this week. I understand Katy Perry’s singles are underperforming AND Taylor Swift decided to re-release her music on Spotify on the exact same day…ow bitter rivalry or what.

  2. I’m frankly surprised by Katy Perry’s rapid decline in popularity of late. Nearly every song she released in the past shot straight to #1, but now her songs are all flops. Just goes to show the fickle nature of young fans.

Re the album from Buckingham & McVie, it’s a decent effort but lacks the depth and wonderful melodies of previous Fleetwood Mac albums. Still, their vocals are still strong given their ages.

The Rise Against album is pretty good, but doesn’t break new ground for them.

  3. Not a great week for releases, huh? I’ll likely check out Glen’s, but not sure I’ll buy it. Have you seen the documentary from a while back?
