Finally!!! The new releases start picking up. August was such a slow month, but it is about to get busy. The floodgates are opening and the new releases are coming in full force. So hold on and open your wallets, it is going to get expensive. This week gets off nicely and the ones I am interested in are highlighted in Blue. There should be something in here for everyone especially some great rock and a ton of country. Let me know what you like.
- Alter Bridge – Live at the O2 Arena + Rarities – (Napalm Records): Alter Bridge live is going to be good. You have the boys from Creed and Myles Kennedy who is one of the hardest working singers in the business between Alter Bridge, Slash and so many other projects, he is always working. There have been a lot of good live albums lately and this should be no exception. The plus side is there are a bunch of rare tracks on here as well that really has my interest.
- Jonny Lang – Signs – (Concord Records): Blues rocker Jonny Lang is back with his first album in 4 years and it has been way too long. I am looking forward to hearing some more of his guitar magic. With a new album from Kenny Wayne Shepherd and now Jonny, blues rock is alive and kicking.
- Lynch Mob – The Brotherhood – (Rat Pak Records): George Lynch!! Enough said…well except it is great to have original singer Oni Logan back at the mic. Should be great and if the song is any indication, it will be!!
- Living Colour – Shade – (MRI): Living Colour has been away for more years than they should have been. 8 years since their last release, but better late than never. The song “Program” is some kick ass rock and makes me excited about what else is on the album. Gonna be a damn week of new music.
- Hanson – Middle of Everywhere – The Greatest Hits (2CD) – (Three Car Garage): Hanson has a greatest hits album??? Hell yes they do. The MMMbop boys were so much more than that song and have actually released some pretty good albums over the years. Glad to see this.
- Gregg Allman – Southern Blood – (Rounder): This album will definitely get a listen after his passing a few months back. It actually would have gotten a listen anyway.
- Toadies – The Lower Side of Uptown – (Kirtland Records)
- Neil Young – Hitchhiker – (Silver Bow)
- Nothing But Thieves – Broken Machine – (Sony Music)
- Mogwai – Every Country’s Sun – (Temporary Residence)
- Arch Enemy – Will to Power – (Savage Messiah Music)
- Tori Amos – Native Invader – (Decca)
- Thomas Rhett – Life Changes – (Big Machine)
- Kip Moore – Slowheart – (MCA Nashville)
- Dustin Lynch – Current Mood – (Broken Bow Records)
- Jack Johnson – All The Light Above It Too – (Jack Johnson)
- Toby Keith – The Bus Songs – (Show Dog LLC)
- MuteMath – Play Dead – (Wojtek Records)
- The National – Sleep Well Beast – (4AD)
Intrigued by the Alter Bridge release, but the one I’m most likely to pick up is Mogwai’s new one. I don’t think they’ve released an album I don’t like…

2nd person on Mogwai. I have heard of them but never listened. I might need to remedy that.

Their great. Seem to be putting out some of their best stuff over the last couple of years, too. It’s not everyone’s favourite, but I thought Rave Tapes was brilliant and Atomic is excellent too.

ALTER BRIDGE!
Living Colour as well should be great ….
Jonny Lang also saw him open for Aerosmith on the Nine lives tour. I think he was only 20 or so back than, Real good opener and even he jammed with Aero on Last Child!

ALTER BRIDGE for me too!! I listened to Jonny on the way to work this morning and it is pretty damn good. I will listen to it again many times, but off first listen it could be in my top albums at the end of the year.

Mogwai’s new album dropped this side of the Atlantic last week. It’s fucking great.

Cool! It might have dropped then here as they could have changed the date since I actually do the post about 3 weeks in advance.

I’ve heard that Hanson’s well worth further investigation – one of these days I will have to finally investigate further, this comp might be a good place to start!

There were a couple albums in the 2000’s that I thought were really good. Definitely give it a shot.

Pssssst! You got the title wrong on Hanson. It’s Middle of Everywhere.
Lots of neat comebacks this week. Nothing that has me rushing out.

Holy crap!! I did get it wrong. I was thinking of that album and didn’t notice they changed it for the greatest hits. Thanks so much. I have corrected that mistake.

I am definitely buying the Neil Young and the Jack Johnson. It makes me happy that Jonny Lang is still making records. I liked his first two a lot.

Haven’t bought it yet but it’ll be the Gregg Allman I’ll go for out of this batch.

Hanson!?!?!?! Being the great and dutiful husband I am, my wife and I are going to see them in L.A. on their forthcoming tour. She’s a huge fan, and whilst I’m not, they are more than just “Mmmbop”, you’re right.
