Another Friday, another set of new releases. There isn’t a whole lot, but some I am really interested in getting a hold of and those are highlighted in Blue. As the year gets ramped up it will keep getting better and better each week (hopefully). Let me know what interests you this week. Have a wonderful weekend listening to the new music.
- Whitesnake – The Purple Tour (Live) – (Rhino Records): Whitesnake did The Purple Album to celebrate all things Deep Purple and then they toured it. Here is the end result of that tour. A CD and DVD of the tour is something worth getting a hold of for sure. Whitesnake have been releasing a lot of live albums lately and I love they are doing that. It is nice getting things from each era of the band. Check out the video for Burn and then grab hold of the album.
- Phillip Phillips – Collateral – (Interscope Records): The former American Idol champ is finally back after 4 years since his last album. It took so long due to a lot of legal troubles with his label and the lack of promotion they did on his fabulous second album. I am glad he is finally back. He is a singer/songwriter with a pop and folk influence and I haven’t heard anything yet as I am waiting to take it all in at once.
- Joe Perry – Sweetzerland Manifesto – (Roman Records): The lead guitarist for Aerosmith is ready for his next solo release. With Aerosmith seeming to be on hiatus for a short time, he thought why not (I guess). Since it is Joe Perry, it will get a spin or two.
- Fall Out Boy – MANIA – (Island Records): The album was supposed to come out in September, but either the band or the label was not happy with the album so they delayed the release and went back to work. The album will now get its release. I am curious now to hear what they have come out and I would love to hear what get thrown out. Interesting.
- Black Label Society – Grimmest Hits – (Panworkz)
- Of Mice & Men – Defy – (Rise Records)
- Anvil – Pounding the Pavement – (Steamhammer)
- Magnum – Lost on the Road to Eternity – (Steamhammer)
- Chick Corea & Steve Gadd – Chinese Butterfly – (Stretch Records)
- They Might Be Giants – I Like Fun – (Idlewild Recordings)
- Rend Collective – Good News – (Rend Family Records)
- Belle and Sebastian – How to Solve Our Human Problems Part 2 E.P. – (Matador)
- Marillion – Holidays in Eden (Live) – (Racket Records)
- The Shins – The Worms Heart – (Columbia Records)
I dunno about Whitesnake. Picked up a live a album a few years back and don’t listen to it much. No Sykes=No Whitesnake..
I just seen this morning Def Lep’s whole catalogue has been added to iTunes …even the 3 song EP is available along with a new EP called the Lost Sessions which is live ….
Deluxe editions everything ….

Wow!! That was a surprise from Lep and tour dates too with Journey!! Not a bad Friday.
I still like Whitesnake even without Sykes. Coverdale always puts together some very talented musicians and it is still fun for me. I will stream before I buy though…

I cannot handle what Journey has become. I mean all this TMZ infighting was silly…I say punt Cain and the Perry clone and bring back Rolie and the real Perry along with Castronova and than I may be interested.

Trust me, I am going for Lep and the fact my oldest daughter and my wife both want to go. Arnel does sound great though. He can pull off those songs, but it is not the same. And yes, the bickering is sad.

Just read that Schon says he just doesn’t talk to them…haha…what a bunch of peckerheads!
Lep will be cool though…

With the list of musicians on Joe Perry’s album I would consider it.
Also Black Label, Anvil,Magnum, Chick Corea and The Shins are all possibilities.
None scream must haves though.

I hoping the Perry one is good. I will try and get through as many as possible, but I am sure I won’t make it through all of them. Agree that none are must haves until I stream them first.

Nothing jumping out at me this week – though I do like the solving Human problems title!

Belle & Sebastian are releasing three E.ps only weeks apart. Seems to be a trend.

Nice to see Phillip Phillips release new music. Seeing his song ‘Home’ on your post about most common song titles made me wonder what he was up to. I’m also looking forward to hearing the new Of Mice and Men album, as I’ve really liked some of their music.

I like Phillips. Great voice and this one sounds good so far. The Of Mice and Men is great. I listened on the way home tonight.

I’m a bit interested in The Shins, but the two that most interest me this release day are Nicklas Sorensen’s Solo 2 and Walking Papers’ WP.

The Joe Perry album is pretty good. Really cool to hear David Johansen sing for him. As is with most Perry solo records tho, there’s some songs I heard that I wish would have been Aerosmith songs.
Still, it’s a much better record than “Have Guitar, Will Travel.”

From two ends of the musical spectrum: Black Label Society and that Chick Corea one.
