Is it the end of March already? There have been so many great releases this month that I am almost wore out. I said almost! There are several more releases I need to hear before the month ends and those are highlighted in Blue. This week there is Hard Rock, Metal, Country, Pop and maybe a little for everyone. Let me know what you want to get a hold of and listen to constantly. Have a great weekend.
- Red Sun Rising – Thread – (New Razor & Tie): Red Sun Rising are on their 2nd Studio album (not including 2 independent releases). The first one was a surprise discovery for me. It flew under the radar but struck a chord and now I am glad they are back for some more. They are a hard rock/post-grunge style band that just deliver the goods. Check them out.
- Rob Zombie – Astro-Creep: 2000 Love Songs of Love, Destruction And Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head – (Universal Music): Rob Zombie and a live album! That is really all I need to say. I don’t always like everything they put out on a studio album, but a live album captures are all the classic Zombie sound and with John 5 and band at his side, you can expect sheer perfection in sound. This one needs to get turned up as loud as it will go. I didn’t find a video release yet promoting this album…sorry.
- Kacey Musgraves – Golden Hour – (MCA Nashville): I don’t really like country that much, but there are some exceptions. Kacey is one of those exceptions as she has a little outlaw in her. This is her third release (I don’t count Christmas albums – which is actually a big negative for her as I hate Christmas albums but that is another story). She has a great voice and her songs are at times controversial which is a good thing. Give her a listen.
- FM – Atomic Generation – (Frontiers Records)
- Zeke – Hellbender – (Relapse Records)
- Napalm Death – Coded Smears and More Uncommon Slur – (Century Media)
- Escape the Fate – I Am Human – (Better Noise Records)
- Hayley Kiyoko – Expectations – (Empire/Atlantic Records)
- Mary Chapin Carpenter – Sometimes Just the Sky – (Lambent Light Records)
- Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite – No Mercy in This Land – (Ben Harper)
- Manhattan Transfer – The Junction – (BMG)
I’m not a big fan but, for some reason, I’m really excited about the Napalm Death one. Looks great!

Now that the new GBV is on its way to me in the mail, I’m saving up all my pennies for the new Leon Bridges LP dropping May 4(th be with you!). Man I want that one so bad.
Of these, none grabbed me and said BUY ME, but if I saw the Musgraves record at a good price I’d grab it as I’ve always meant to give her stuff a try.

Musgraves is always interesting. This time I think she has gone the more pop route than country so not sure about it. I will eventually listen to to it.

Hm. I was hoping that one track wasn’t indicative of the whole thing… we’ll see!

That is one of the reasons I have been hesitant to listen to it.

Also, seeing Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite together on an album is cool. My KMA brother James could see them this summer at the Regina folk festival. I think he should!

That would be a good show. I hope he goes and writes about it.

If he goes, he will definitely write up a SLCR post!

I wasn’t aware of the Rob Zombie release. I take it he and his band are playing the White Zombie album in its entirety?
Anyhoo, the one I’m interested in here is Kacey Musgraves.

I believe the Zombie one is just that. I have read some good things about the Kacey one.

I gave Kacey a listen and there were a few great moments, but not enough of them. Perhaps a grower.

I hate Christmas albums too. But then, I’m not a big fan of Christmas…

I am a huge fan of Christmas! Just hate the full on Christmas albums by a band. I don’t mind a song or two from an artist, but s whole album is a little much. Plus, it is my Birthday!!
