Disco era Kiss! Does it get any better than that?? Well, yes it actually does. Nonetheless, it was still Kiss and still awesome. I was out at my favorite little record spot and came across a 7″ single of Kiss and of course I had to have it. It was the 1979 single off the Dynasty album called “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”.
The single was only the band’s second Gold single and it went on to sell over a 1 million copies so needless to say, it was a hit. Which proved Gene and Paul correct that during the Disco era, anyone could write a disco song. Speaking of writing, this was the first time Kiss co-wrote a song with Desmond Child and it wouldn’t be the last. It was also Desmond’s first hit he ever had. The song was also written by Paul Stanley and Vini Poncia who played piano on the song and did backing vocals.
The really isn’t much to talk about in regards to the song. Think disco and you know what the song sounds like. You can get up and dance to it and sing along to the catchy, pop chorus. It is simple. One thing I guess I can talk about is that wikipedia has the 7″ single listed at 4:01, but my version has it at 3:57 which might not seem like a lot, but that is a big difference. The song is already cut down from the album version which was at 4:30. Not sure if I have a different version or wikipedia is just wrong.
Wikipedia also has the single artwork shown as the following:
And mine looks like this
Whatever the answer is, I love my copy. If you look at the artwork with the band on it you will notice Peter Criss. Peter didn’t actually play on the song. It was session drummer Anton Fig. He actually played most of Dynasty if I am not mistaken as the producer Vini Poncia didn’t feel Peter was up for the task. I also think I read somewhere that for this song, Paul played Bass (rather than Gene Simmons) and rhythm guitar while Ace did do the solo.
Here is the official video (I think) as it was not posted by Kiss so hopefully it will stay around awhile.
The B-Side of the single was the Ace Frehley penned track and sung track, “Hard Times”. It was one of three songs Ace sang on ‘Dynasty’ which was great for us Ace fans. I like it better than the main single even though it has some disco influence to it, however, overall it is more hard rock and has a killer Ace solo on it that puts it over the top. Check it out below.
I keep adding to my Kiss singles collection and I can’t wait to find some more. Nothing better than that feeling when your flipping through the stack of 45’s and you come across something like this. I hope I find more soon.
“I Was Made For Lovin’ You”
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, doTonight I wanna give it all to you
In the darkness
There’s so much I wanna do
And tonight I wanna lay it at your feet
‘Cause girl, I was made for you
And girl, you were made for me
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can’t get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me
Tonight I wanna see it in your eyes
Feel the magic
There’s something that drives me wild
And tonight we’re gonna make it all come true
‘Cause girl, you were made for me
And girl I was made for you
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can’t get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can give it all to you baby
Can you give it all to me
Oh, can’t get enough, oh, oh
I can’t get enough, oh, oh
I can’t get enough
Yeah, ha
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can’t get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me
Oh, I was made, you were made
I can’t get enough
No, I can’t get enough
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can’t get enough of you baby
Can you get enough of me
I was made for lovin’ you baby
You were made for lovin’ me
And I can give it all to you baby
It’s a great song, and that’s cool you have a variation with the running time and record label sleeve. Be interesting to find out more info on those.

I think I had this single back in the day. Awesome song. Probably their best imo. Great piece. I’m enjoying these Kiss articles.

Yes I have the original single this the first single I ever bought. What is different about this single as the b side 45 single version properly ended the song. I never seen no other version in the Kiss library that the song ends when this song was first put out
