Friday New Releases – October 19th

Welcome to a HUGE Friday!!!  There releases are massive and numerous. What more could you ask for.  This is the first time in a very long time where I have 3 releases that are on order for the same day.  I am going to love the mail man this week.  The albums I am interested in are highlighted in Blue and the first 3 are the ones on order.  Let me know what you looking forward to hearing and which ones I might have missed.  Enjoy and have a great musical weekend!  I know I will!!!

  • 81PZVtcGBVL._SX522_  Greta Van Fleet – Anthem of the Peaceful Man – (Republic Records):  These young lads are constantly getting compared to Led Zeppelin and you know what?  Who cares.  Zeppelin isn’t putting out any new music so I am going to enjoy this.  At least the young generation is still making Rock & Roll.  This is their first Full Length studio album and I get wait to unwrap the vinyl.

  • 51EQXYr3IZL._AC_US436_QL65_  Whitesnake – Unzipped – (Rhino Records):  5 CDs and 1 DVD of Whitesnake Unplugged.  20 years worth of music including Starkers in Tokyo and Starkers in Warsaw, Paris, Germany and so much music.  I can’t wait for this one either.  It is going to be non-stop music.

  • 51QRS6+jU1L._AC_US436_QL65_  Ace Frehley – Spaceman – (Metal/Entertainment One):  Ace is back with a new studio album and this one is all original (mostly original – one cover).  And he has help from the one and only Gene Simmons who helped write two songs and played bass on those same two songs.  Since Kiss doesn’t have any new music, this is the next best thing…maybe better!!

  • 41PTKPYgH8L._SY300_QL70_  Aldo Nova – Aldo Nova 2.0 – (Aldo Nova):  Aldo Nova is back with his first new music in over 20 years.  Ok, sorta of new music.  It is a re-imagination of songs off his debut album.  So, not totally new.  I am a huge Aldo fan and met him once, but this is a little bizarre and not sure what the need was for this, but I will give it a listen before I buy it.  I wasn’t blown away by the “Fantasy” remake.  This one has me curious though.

  • 51NK8EETOwL._SY300_QL70_  Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody (Soundtrack) – (Hollywood Records):  The soundtrack to the new Freddie Mercury biopic.  A great collection of Queen songs and this movie looks great.  I will have to see if this has anything I don’t already have, but I will definitely see the movie.  The trailer is below.

And the rest…

  • 51oOMgjGP9L._SY300_QL70_  Disturbed – Evolution – (Reprise Records)
  • 51Onycp6CgL._SS500  2Cellos – Let There Be Cello – (Sony Music)
  • 818AW7eQIOL._SX522_.jpg  Elle King – Shake the Spirit – (RCA)
  • 81J5JLF7wkL._SX522_  R.E.M. – R.E.M. at the BBC – (Concord Music/BBC)
  • 41aPKIE4llL._AC_US436_QL65_  Earthless – From the West (Live) – (Nuclear Blast Entertainment)
  • 71IDxARcqvL._SX522_  Marty Friedman – One Bad M.F. Live! – (Prosthetic)
  • 71VdFnj1TGL._AC_UL115_  Nile Rodgers & Chic – It’s About Time – (Everything to Everyone)
  • 51UcIuLvSCL._AC_US320_QL65_  Saliva – 10 Lives – (Refuse to Lose Music)
  • 31mWUUbmoCL._SS500  Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit – Live from the Ryman – (Southeastern Records)
  • 51Vz4S4zlsL._SS500  Nothing But Thieves – What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way? E.P. – (Sony)
  • 51pQIwZ3FsL._AC_US320_QL65_  Martina McBride – It’s the Holiday Season – (Vinyl Recordings)
  • 518wlUGwidL._AC_US436_QL65_.jpg  Yoko Ono – Warzone – (Chimera Music)
  • 61UY-XAIipL._SS500  Neneh Cherry – Broken Politics – (Smalltown Supersound)

  1. I’ll be grabbing the Earthless live album, for sure. They’ve been one of my favourite bands this year… I honestly don’t think I’ve listened to anyone more than I have them.

Aside from that, I’m very interested in the Neneh Cherry and Jason Isbell releases.

  2. Lot’s of heavy hitters out this week John!
Greta I’m on the fence about buying. I like the new track kinda but I will wait until I read some reviews…
Aldo is interesting as well but why? Good he’s back though. I’ll wait on that as well…
Whitesnake I’m passing on as it has way to much acoustic stuff. Was disappointed in the live album earlier this year from them so I will pass on this. I’m burnt out on unplugged or unzipped or whatever ya wanna call it..hahaha
Ace Frehley I dunno…he’s a douche right now with the canning of his band and stuff he’s been saying about these guys now..too bad.
    I will though check out R.E.M though…
Not going to pay $59 for the BBC stuff but I will purchase the 1995 show from England as Monster is my fav record from them…
Crush with Eyeliner is a great track…

      1. Yeah…I watched a interview with him talking bout the past week saying these new guys are better players blah blah blah…Like sorry Ace your not always bang on yourself. Look at that show back in may where they had to help him off the stage and they blamed it on a cold or some bullshit…..

        1. To fire Richie Scarlet when his wife was dying, that would cross a line with me. I don’t know if I could forgive somebody if they did that to me, honestly.

I was right that Chris Wyse was not worried about it though. He’s got other projects going on, he’s free to do them.

Ace is a money focused guy and Gene’s band were cheaper. That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

          1. Thats a lot of peoples theory even Ace admits it on one of the youtube interviews…
The guy that I’m liking most is Peter Criss! Petey came to the party got asked to leave and on his way out turned off the lights and closed the door and not looking back.
            I respect him for that!
Couldn’t care less what Frehley is doing in 2018 to be quite honest with you…
Just no interest but Ace from 73-81 yeah I’m on-board!

            1. Yep and Peter had a nice quiet bow-out, a few small shows, very well received, playing a lot of classic stuff. I used to think Peter was the most immature of them but clearly not. He’s been so dignified since leaving Kiss. It would be nice if Kiss had him for the final shows, just for a few songs, because there is no way he can do a gruelling tour.

                    1. That’s cool. I know you were planning on spinning Ace first, have you done it yet?

I still have Greta and Queen to go!

Thanks for these weekly posts by the way. between you and HMO, you guys pretty much keep me posted on everything I need to know on a weekly basis. Thanks 2loud!

                    2. You are welcome Mike. I love doing those posts since it helps remind me what is coming.

Yes, I have heard it…3 X’s so far. And only 1/2 the Greta. Still need to do Whitesnake. That one is a lot of songs.

                    3. WOW 3x. Nice. I have a couple early favourites. I hope Whitesnake arrives soon though how will I have time to listen and watch?! The DVD looks loaded to the gills.

    1. Agree on the Aldo. I am too obsessed with Coverdale so the Whitesnake is a must for me. I got the big daddy set. Ace is a douche and I will make sure to bring that up in my review of how shitty that was. Greta…well it was getting ordered no matter what for my daughter, but I like them as well. The whole family has tickets to see them in concert in May. Should be fun.

  3. I have Earthless and Greta on order.

As for Aldo Nova, it is probably an issue with the original label. The label probably owns the rights to the original album. They either would not allow a re-release or wanted too much money for the rights. Therefore Aldo Nova had to re-record. If he re-records it he gets all the cash.

I want to see the Queen movie but was put off when they dumped Sacha. I thought he was perfect. However, thr band wanted to suppress some of the facts about his gay lifestyle. Ummm, it’s 2018 guys. We all know he was gay, and we don’t care. No need to hide it. I wanted to see the real story.

Not sure about Ace. Does an artist being a douche stop me from buying their music? I own Eddie Van Halen, Axl Rose and Vince Neil stuff so I guess not.

On the fence about Marty Friedman, Disturbed, and REM.

I may buy Yoko Ono for Halloween since I want to play frightening music to scare the trick or treaters.

    1. On Aldo, I wasn’t even thinking about that. That is a good point and makes a ton of sense.
Agree on the Queen movie, I want the true story as well. It is no surprise he was gay…common knowledge and you are right, we don’t care.
Yes, you can like someone even if they are a douche as I have all those albums as well and plus I already ordered it before he did the douche move of firing his band.
And thanks for the idea on the Halloween music…I will make sure to blast that during the evening of trick or treating!!
