The last week of February, the last week of new releases for the month and the Last in Line is all I am interested in hearing. There are a handful of releases this week so hopefully there is something for you. Mine is highlighted in blue as usual. Let me know what you want to get or anything I might have missed. Thanks and have a great weekend.
- Last in Line – II – (Frontiers Records): The former Dio band consisting of Vinny Appice, Vivian Campbell (Def Leppard), Andrew Freeman and now Phil Soussan. They aren’t playing Dio songs, but their own material. I like Viv and Vinny so I will give it a try and see what they have to offer this time around.
- Gary Clark Jr. – This Land – (Warner Brothers): What an utter talent. His blend of rock and blues has been hailed by Prince and even President Obama…so that should be enough to sway you to check him out. Seriously, check him out. You will not be disappointed. And for this album…he has a lot to say!!! Damn!! He needs to be heard!!
I don’t really have a desire for anything else, but there is some good stuff so hopefully you can find something…
- Tora Tora – Bastards of Beale – (Frontiers Records)
- Dream Theater – Distance Over Time (InsideOut Music) Find Me – Angels in Blue – (Frontiers Records)
- FM – The Italian Job (Live) – (Frontiers Records)
- Overkill – The Wings of War – (Nuclear Blast)
- Candlemass – The Door to Doom – (Napalm Records)
- Il Volo – Musica – (Sony)
- Badflower – Ok, I’m Sick – (Big Machine)
- John Mayall – Nobody Told Me – (Forty Below Records)
I’m interested in the Gary Clark Jr album, though I’m one of those chaps that’s often a bit disappointed by his albums (I know, it’s a shocker).
The big release this week, for me, is the new Claypool Lennon Delirium album.

You aren’t alone. Tony mentioned that as well. I can’t see I am any different. He always has some great stuff, but the albums are a little lackluster overall. Live is where its at with him.

He always seems to cram way too much onto an album. Maybe if he trimmed some tracks he’d have a consistently good album on his hands.

A much shorter album would be nice. Get in, get out, leave them wanting more.

Still kinda crappy…and i don’t think it gets any better. March hopefully will see a big turnaround.

Looking forward to trying that Gary Clark Jr album. Not hugely overwhelmed by his albums (there’s some killer, a lot of filler) but his live stuff shows that when he wants to let loose he’s untouchable

Agreed. The new one is pretty good overall. I haven’t finished it yet as it is way too long at 17 songs which I hate that. Give me 10 tracks and move on.

I purchased the new Dream Theater album which is my first bought album of those guys since like 1998 or something close to that…Liked the first three tracks they released so why not give it another shot after 21 years!

Great cover too!! The robot hand and the skull…love it. I actually haven’t heard anything yet as I never got in to them.

I’ve been gone a long time from these guys but now that Rush is completely shut down maybe its time to give this guys a real decent shot…
4 songs in ..so far so good!

At some point yes! The production is stellar. This one though being Prog I got to really dig into it for the review though.. The Cover as have stated is brilliant…Hugh Syme as usual with his brilliance …

One full spin through John. I have to say its quite good as DT have shortened the songs/feature more singing and less noodling around on the instruments. They still prog and rock out at times. No skipped tracks. Pretty impressed by it actually..considering its been over 20 years since I had a last visit with them..

That is good to hear. I love it when bands that have been around for years and still put out quality music.

Absolutely John. Will this make me go back and get all the stuff I missed? Probably not but moving forward more than likely,,

I don’t wanna sound like a dick, but I think I don’t need any more Dream Theater 😦

No complaints on my end…never got in to them so no real desire to run out and listen to this one.

I bought all their albums for a while, but I can’t remember any of the more recent ones, so I think I’m OK with what I have!

I have a lot of bands like that. Just listen to the old stuff and nothing new interests me.

It makes me sad but I can’t deny that’s the case with me and many bands.

Not much this week, save for Gary Clark Jr. I’ve been waiting for his album since This Land. Not disappointed at all, I think this is his best work yet!

It has been a slow year so far for releases for me. Glad you are digging the Gary Clark Jr one. I have listened to it once and I do love “This Land”. I hope the rest grows on me like that song has.
