Stone Temple Pilots – Perdida – (Play Pen Music / Rhino): STP is back with Jeff Gutt on vocals for his second album. This one is quite a departure from their normal fare as it is an all acoustic album of new music. Pretty bold move with still a new singer. My brother-in-law worked on this album with the band so of course it is on my list and has been pre-ordered on vinyl to arrive today when I get home from work. Looking forward to explore this one.
Richard Marx – Limitless – (BMG): I will admit it…I love Richard Marx…no not the physical, deep emotional love for a person, but love of his music. What can I say, I am a sap for a good love song or hell, a good song period. Richard has a great way of doing both of those and at the same time. Thankfully the 80’s mullet is gone and he has changed with the times.
Green Day – Father of All… – (Reprise Records): Not sure why I am interested in this, but I guess I hope they can recapture some of their magic from years gone by. They lost my interest several year back with their trio of albums that were so bad they were awful. I haven’t heard anything yet and will check it out once released. Here’s to hoping they have found their groove again.

The STP one is different…that is all I can say right now. I’m a little perplexed by it. I bought it before listening to it only because it is something my brother-in-law worked on and I like buying his stuff to support

It’s cemented their descent for me. I’ll give it a fair crack (as I did with the last effort), but nothing shines. It’s just bland.

Actually I’m kinda on the fence with Green Day as it deosn’t sound like them. I may at some point pull the trigger on this one. May is the key word haha

A colleague has started a weekly activity at work, everyone writes their song choice for the category & he then makes a playlist to share.
This week’s: guilty pleasure song.
I chose Duran Duran’s Ordinary World but Richard Marx’s Take This Heart would have been a good one too. Though I don’t really feel guilty about liking either tune!

I usually don’t feel too guilty for liking anything, but I have a few. My most embarrassing is probably Air Supply. They were one of my mom’s favorites, so it reminds me of her (that part isn’t embarrassing though, just the band).

Nothing for me. The STP album is interesting. On one hand it’s a hell of a risk to do an acoustic album for their second with Gutt. On the other hand it might be what they need to start a new second era for the band. I won’t be checking it out but interesting nonetheless.

Some good renditions of Crue songs… and some Crue songs crossover great into country like Home Sweet Home, Don’t Go Away and Time For Change.
