Def Leppard – Bringin’ on the Heartbreak (Remix) – 12″ Promotional Copy

Another grab from Noble Records from the sell of the big metal collection he picked up from a former record store owner was another Def Leppard release. This time around I found a 12″ Promotional Single for the songs “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak (Remix)” and “Me & My Wine (Remix)”. After the success of ‘Pyromania’, it was decided to do a re-release of the prior album ‘High ‘N Dry’. For that to be successful, they added two new songs…okay one new one and one remix of another song on the album. Both were mixed by Robert John “Mutt” Lange himself. The album was rereleased on May 31, 1984.

The band sent out this Promotion Single with only those two new songs and they actually did videos with for the songs as well. Now, Phil Collens was in the band now and not Pete Willis who played on both these songs so the videos have Phil not Pete which is strange.

This promo is a U.S. release just prior to the album re-release and sent out in hopes of pushing that album. I remember the videos popping up on MTV and I loved it. It was already my favorite Def Leppard album and I was fine and dandy with picking up another copy of the album with the two new tracks. Since these are remixes, let’s talk a little about the songs.

“Bringin’ On The Heartbreak (Remix):

If you know the original, you know this is a ballad and one of the best the band has ever written. And to see it played acoustically live is amazing. This version is not that much different than the original. The biggest change was Mutt added some synthesizers to the mix since that seemed to be the thing to do. The synths are fine, but the original guitar only version is still the best. The song didn’t do that great when released as a single. It only went to #61 on the US Charts.

“Me & My Wine (Remix)”:

“Me & My Wine” was originally the B-Side to the original release of “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak”. Mutt took the original and beefed it up. There is a little guitar note added at the beginning before kicking in. The vocals seem a little cleaned up and everything seems a little punchier with a little more edge. A fun track overall and a fun video that was a shout out to the British TV Show – The Young Ones.

And that is the 2nd of the two Def Leppard singles I picked up at Noble. Man, I get a lot of Lep from him as I picked up those two 12″ Picture Discs as well several months back. It is one of the really great stores in town.

    1. I’m with ya Pete on that as well. No little cool record shop like that here in Tbay as well. There was and the dude that owned it ran it into the ground but not getting back to you if u wanted something ordered or the store hours were goofy. Took a good concept and fucked it up..lol

      1. We had Utopia Records the home of heavy metal but once they got too big it lost its magic. And then Napster started and the store kept declining but it kept on going albeit in a smaller format but it’s not the store I once remember.

        1. We have one Record Store and thats in the mall here or Amazon.
Basically everything I buy now is from Amazon outside a few RSD titles from Montreal. The shipping in Canada is $15 bucks so you have to buy 2 records to justify the cost of postage.

  1. What I loved about the video for the re-issue of “Bringing On the Heartbreak” was that it had the American religious zealots in a twist because of the scene where Joe Elliot is tied to a cross. I like both versions of the song and back in 84, could identify with “Me and My Wine.” Actually, I still can today. God, I’m sounding like a right lush.

  2. Out of all the songs on that album, it’s a shame that “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak’ was the big hit! Then again, I kind of see why since it is a ballad and it’s heavy but decent enough to get airplay. “Me and My Wine” has my favorite music video Def Leppard ever did!
