NOTE: I had to make a change to the New Release – KK’s Priest was moved to October 1st as release date so would now not be out in time to review for September. Sorry for the last minute change. I think Iron Maiden is a suitable replacement.
You, my reader, are going to pick an album for me to review each month. It is really simple…first, I will give you 5 albums to choose from and second, you will tell me which one of those you would like to see reviewed on the site. See…simple!
There are a few simple rules I have put in to place in my selections. They are…
- One has to be a new release (within the last month)
- One has to be one I have never heard before (new releases don’t count for this one)
- One has to be from a genre I don’t normally listen to at all or very often
- And the last two are choices from my collection that I haven’t reviewed before
What are the 5 albums you ask? Funny you should ask because I have those right here…
New Release – Iron Maiden – “Senjutsu”
Never Heard Before – Captain Beefheart – ‘Trout Mask Replica’
Not My Normal Genre – Dr. John, ‘GRIS-Gris’
From My Collection – Neal Schon – ‘Late Nite’
From My Collection – U2 – ‘The Joshua Tree’
Let me know which one you would like to see and sometime in September, I will post a review of the album that gets the most votes. You have one week to decide and from there I will start listening to the album and do a review.
Thanks for participating!!
Easy pick. Beefheart. The most challenging listen you may ever experience.

I figured you would go with that one. Your review made me remember I had never heard that one so needed to use it in one of these. I did have to change the New Release pick as KK’s Priest was moved to October 1st.

Beefheart! I want to hear someone’s first impression of this album.

Thanks. That one scares me so we will see how it goes if it wins.

Harrison, I had to update the post. KK’s Priest is no longer a selection as the release date got moved to October 1. Sorry…you might like the replacement

I was a little surprised to see it there as I was sure that it released later. Alright, let’s see…. abso-bloody-lutely Senjutsu.

The problem was I wrote this post about 6-7 weeks ago and they moved the date since and I wasn’t paying attention. I just wrote the one for October for November so I hope that new release doesn’t get moved.

Thanks for picking but I had to replace KK’s Priest as the release date was moved to October 1st. See if you like the one that replaced it.

Going to go with Dr. John, ‘GRIS-Gris’, only first heard this myself a little while ago, very different is all I am saying.

I wanted something on there that would be outside my comfort zone and that one probably is a perfect choice for that.

It certainly took me out of my comfort zone.

I’d say go with the Captain Beefheart (always good advice). The Joshua Tree is overdone, and we’re all gonna write about the Maiden.

Thank you sir! I think the mighty captain might be winning. Not much of a contest so far.

Captain Beefheart! I want the Iron Maiden but already see the trend here 🙂

Don’t worry, Maiden will get reviewed by a lot of sites if it doesn’t win…which it probably won’t.

It looks like Captain Beefheart will be the winner, but I’m going with Maiden.

We are on the same wavelength, John – Beefheart was this week’s artist of the week and I clicked publish on a Dr. John post no more than a few minutes ago!
That being said, I’ll vote for U2. They’re a group that I’ve lost track of in the last 20 years or so, but I bet if I picked up the Joshua Tree again, I’d remember why I was such a fan

I’ve written on TMR for Discrepancy Records. It’s a monster.
BTW, the 33 ⅓ book on it is really interesting and helpful in processing van Vliet’s masterpiece.

Thanks. I don’t know if I’ll go to the book as I want this to be a fresh listen and just give my interpretations. And if I find it interesting enough, maybe do a deep dive. I am a little intimidated with this one though.

I’d be worried about your mental state if you weren’t intimidated!

Iron Maiden – Senjutsu please! Even though I know everyone’s probably going to review it! Also, for KK Priest, I’m still upset about that name, like seriously, they couldn’t think of a different name that wouldn’t draw comparison between the two bands?!?!

You can’t blame him for that. He was in Priest for 40+ years so why not capitalize on it.

I guess not. To be honest, when I was researching the band, KK became iffy for me. I read that when Glenn’s Parkinson’s started going bananas, KK was like, “how come they never brought me back?” It’s not like he got along with Glenn very well anyways.

I had a feeling he would get a few votes. It is a very popular album from years ago and those tend to get the votes when I put them on the list.

I don’t know those albums. I’ve already written the next two so if I remember, I will see about the one I do in November for December.

I don’t know who this Beefheart is. I’m always up for discovering new bands. Besides, the album title has me thinking about Fishheads by Barnes & Barnes.

Ha! Fishheads…I find that one to be horrible and when I did a post about it, one of the Barnes boys told me he thought it was pretty f’n great. I was honored he commented on my post.
