Friday New Releases – January 21, 2022

We have another big week of releases for you on our Friday New Release post. And let me tell you, there is a plethora of styles, genres and sounds which means there will be something for you. You have my word or I’ll give you your money back…now of course you didn’t pay any money to be here so there is nothing to pay you back, but you get what I mean. My choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what you want to hear or what I may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

  • 71VAIUZH7cL._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  Kissin’ Dynamite – Not the End of the Road – (Napalm Records): This German band is now on their seventh album and I would say these guys are on to something as they keep getting better. Their 80’s stadium rock sound full of hooks and that anthem sound yet till sound modern. I can’t wait to hear what they have to offer this time around.
  • 81JkNZFtDAL._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  John Mellencamp – Strictly A One-Eyed Jack – (Republic Records): Can you believe this is his 25th album? Insane right. I hadn’t listened to him in awhile so now I think it is time to check him out again and see if there is still life left in this pirate.
  • 71oNINyXfDL._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  Giant – Shifting Time – (Frontiers Records): They have a brand new singer and only 2 original members so not sure we are going to get the same old sound we are used to. I’ll give it a shot but expectations or pretty low.

And all the rest….

  1. I decided to give Kissin’ Dynamite a try. I ordered the new release, as well as their best of. Merci pour l’avoir suggéré!

As for John Mellencamp, I don’t know what to make of the eye patch. “Argh in the USA” doesn’t have the same ring to it ;).

    1. The Kissin’ Dynamite one is great. Really liking it. The Mellencamp one…well…his voice is really deep and gravelly like he has smoked a lot of cigarettes and drank a lot of whiskey!!

  2. Going to check out that Kissin’ album for sure. The video/song you posted already reminds me of something off of a badass movie soundtrack. Will check out Mellencamp, though he’s going to get a short leash, and I think I’ll check out ‘Keb ‘Mo and maybe even Teddy Swims – was surprised at how nice his voice is.
While scrolling through, I thought – “hey, there’s a band named Kiefer Sutherland?” Lol. Then I realized it was actually the best 80’s vampire ever singing a country song. “Bloor Street”? more like Bore Street.

  3. So many musicians and bands with so much new music, all vying for our attention. It’s crazy! Even many of the lesser-known indie artists I write about are churning out new music with a vengeance. I had no idea Kiefer Sutherland was also putting out county music, and though I’m not terribly familiar with Years and Years, I like the song you shared.

      1. Born in England, moved to Canada as a kid.

Sutherland was born 21 December 1966, in St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London, to Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, both successful Canadian actors who had been living and working in England for some time. He has a twin sister, Rachel, who works as a post-production film supervisor. His maternal grandfather was Scottish-born Canadian politician and former Premier of Saskatchewan Tommy Douglas, who is widely credited for bringing universal health care to Canada.

Sutherland is named after American-born writer and director Warren Kiefer, who directed Donald Sutherland in his first feature film, Castle of the Living Dead. Sutherland’s family moved to Corona, California, in 1968. His parents divorced in 1970. In 1975, Sutherland moved with his mother to Toronto, Ontario.
