It’s a challenge for all musicians and bands to remain relevant, and for quite a while Madonna was able to do that. But her over-the-top persona has not aged well, not to mention the fact she takes herself far too seriously, unlike Stevie Nicks and Chrissie Hynde, to name two who I think are still classy. I liked many of Madonna’s songs back in the 80s and 90s – “Vogue” and “Take a Bow” are superb – but by 2000 she was trying too hard to stay ‘current’ and the crappy music she put out just didn’t work at all for me. Her last single “Bitch I’m Madonna” was a horrific POS and an embarrassment.

Madonna didn’t realize that kids don’t want to see a 50 year old woman prance around like she is still 16 and act the way she did. She did great at changing with the times in the early years, but lost grips with her change in age. She could have been relevant if she would have toned it down and just sang.
