Welcome to 2021 and the first Friday New Releases of the New Year! Oh how I have missed this post…I know it has only been three weeks since the final one of 2020, but I like these posts. For the first one of the year, there aren’t a ton of releases and there are only a couple I want to listen to so not a great start, but it is right after Christmas and this is usually a slow week anyway. My choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what you want to hear or of there is a release I missed that you think the world should know (or at least the couple 100 people that might see this post). Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
Sammy Hagar & the Circle – Lockdown 2020 – (Mailboat Records): During 2020’s Lockdown, Sammy Hagar & the Circle did a lot of covers and posted them, well now they are releasing them as a complete album and I am excited. Sammy Hager & The Circle was the one concert I had scheduled last year that got cancelled thanks to Covid. That bill also had Whitesnake and Night Ranger so I was really looking forward to it. Maybe they will come around some time soon.
Passenger – Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted – (Nettwerk Music Group): Passenger isn’t really a band name, it is the stage name for Michael David Rosenberg. I like his brand of folk and indie music. He has a pleasant voice and he’s a great songwriter. Give him a listen.
And the rest…
Magnum – Dance of the Black Tattoo – (Steamhammer)
Mott the Hoople – Gold – (Crimson Productions) – No video sorry
Alta Reign – Mother’s Day – (Rat Pak Records)
Babymetal – 10 Babymetal Years – (Toy’s Factory Japan) – Vinyl & CD
Morgan Wallen – Dangerous: The Double Album – (Big Loud Records / Republic)
Aaron Watson – American Soul – (Big Label Records)
Barry Gibbs – Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1 – (Capitol Records)
Blue Oyster Cult – Live ’83 – (Real Gone Music) – No Video sorry
The Hagar sounds interesting. He’s pretty good at covers

I am hoping it is good. I need something new for this year. I have something coming on the 22nd, but hadn’t bought anything else yet.

Mott The Hoople…I looked it up…great set.

It does, but my problem is I just bought a RSD vinyl of Mott the Hoople that was a compilation. I don’t need another at this time.

Hagar will get a spin and so will Passanger and I’m sure I will like a few songs from each.

I am hoping the Passenger one is good. I haven’t listened to him in a while.

My kids keep playing the riffs from that song “Let Her Go”. I haven’t heard that album, so I was thinking I’ll start with this one.

It’s not bad, a little mellow so I have to be in the mood for this one going forward.

Hagar for sure and maybe even BOC if Apple Music has it.

I hope they have the BOC one. I only saw it on Amazon and as a CD.

I’m kind of interested in Hagar but I never get to the point where I like his stuff enough to buy it.

I’m the same on his non VH stuff. I don’t think I own any Hagar actually outside of that.

Yeah, I try and all. Chickenfoot and the solo stuff. It is always not bad but never great, IMHO. That first Montrose album might be the only thing I’d want outside of Van Hagar.

Crap…forgot Montrose. Maybe I have one 🙂

have u tried Never said goodbye? Love that one. It’s not far removed from his vh period. Never said goodbye has give to live and when the hammer falls down. Looking at the songs on it they are all good. Maybe try it on spotify or utube?

No, I don’t think I have. I like his hits, but that is usually it.

I skip Give to Live whenever it comes on VH Live, lol. Not one I really care for. But I’ll give it a spin on Spotify.

All this Sammy talk had me look up his album Marching To Mars.
It has members of GNR, Montrose, Grateful Dead, Brother Cane. Also Huey Lewis and Bootsy Collins.
I got imtrigued so I pulled a Lebrain and ordered the Japanese version with bonus tracks.

I hope you didn’t spend like LeBrain to get it!

My wordpress site is not ad supported so I’m not in the same tax bracket as Lebrain.

Big zippo for me. Sammy Hagar doing covers is no something I will spend money on.

I finished listening to the Sammy one and I won’t be making any purchase either. Not bad, but nothing about that makes me want to hear it again.

That’s the problem with covers albums. Not much replay value.

That is true.

I see what you did there with Sammy Hagar & The Circle: “Maybe they will come around some time soon.” Circle… a round. Nice. Don’t pretend like it was an accident either. I choose to believe it was intentional. Lol.
I’m not much for covers either but I’d definitely be in for a concert that featured them along with Whitesnake and Night Ranger.

Well of course that was on purpose!! 😉

been watching those Sammy live bits on facebook and enjoyed most of them, but then I like covers. Of these I’m interested in Magnum and that Gibbs album. Listening to the Alarm change at the moment…What do u think of them? Always felt that they were way more than u2 lite.

The Alarm…love the Alarm. I have about 7 album on vinyl. Honestly, I listen to them more than U2

I’m liking the sound of Alta Reign. I get a bit Ghost, Journey, Dokken, Savatage and TSO thrown in a blender.
I may get that and possibly the Mott.
Also released today are Hearts & Hand Grenades if you like female fronted hard rock and Frozen Soul if you like Death Metal.

I might have to check Alta Reign with that description. As far as female fronted hard rock, it is hit or miss for me, but I’ll give them a listen. Thanks for the adds!

Nope! And here I am STILL waiting for that newest GBV album to come in. The mail’s been really slow, what with lockdown and such. There’s a gift for my wife, ordered well before Christmas, still out there somewhere too…

That stinks. I had one of my wife’s presents not show up until the week after Christmas, but at least it came.

I understand, it’s tough out there, everything’s backed up. Glad you got your stuff!

Nothing much for me, but I love that Jason Bonham plays drums with Sammy Hagar in The Circle. Making his dad proud!

That Hagar might be joining Phil and the boys on my record machine. Like I said I do like them covers. Thanks for this. I never would have known. Your work is done.
