For My Sunday Song #403, Harrison has chosen a song from one of his favorite singers, Blaze Bayley. The song is “1633” off his 2010 album, ‘Promise And Terror’. The song wasn’t a single, but is a main force to the album. Blaze wrote the song and is the lead singer. If you don’t know Blaze, he was on Wolfsbane and for short time, he was lead singer to Iron Maiden. If it wasn’t for Harrison, I don’t think I would’ve ever given Blaze much thought, but I have found a few things I like including this song.
The song appears to be about Galileo who believed in Copernicus’ theory that the earth was not the center of the universe and it in fact revolved around the Sun. In 1633, The Catholic Church condemned and put Galileo on trial for this viewpoint. According to the song, Galileo’s sight and abilities were given to him by God so how is it offensive to God. I love a song that educates as well as entertains.
The song starts off with a beast of a bass line and that bass line is the driving force of the whole song. The guitars are heavy and nasty and deliver a driving rhythm. Blaze’s vocals are solid and I like the way he handles that chorus. The song can be a little repetitive, but it doesn’t get bothersome. In fact, it makes it a little catchy and after a few listens, you are all in. The end brings the bass back hard and heavy and the guitars and drums become explosive. Blaze does just that and blazes through the lyrics, almost rapping to a point. Then more guitar work to take us out. A real beast of a song.

Give the song a listen and let me know what you think. I will admit this is the most time I have spent with Blaze and I actually enjoyed it. I might have to go do a whole album now. Thanks to Harrison Kopp for all the choices for this 10 song set. Go check him out on Grab a Stack of Rock as co-host and on his Instagram page where he has a ton of Lego artwork.
“1633”
What is the reason God blessed me with sight?
And shows me these signs in the sky
Where my observations are now leading me
I am just so afraid to describe
My certainty
The centre of the universe is the earth
The Holy Father has decreed
But I believe this heliocentric truth
Will they burn me for what I believe?
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
How can all this be offensive to God?
Who created all that I see
How can I deny what I know to be real?
Will they burn me for what I believe?
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
Injuring the holy faith with my blasphemy
I will face torment, and I will taste pain
I will be purified in holy flames
I pray for my salvation
Offending the Holy Church with my heresy
Before this court and before Holy God
I beg for mercy please forgive my sin
I pray for my salvation
This fact cannot be disputed
The centre of all creation is here
No debating and no discovery
Pray for my salvation
I abjure curse and detest all my errors
They are contrary to the Holy Scriptures
I recant for everything I have said
Pray for my salvation
In holy flames I will be purified
In holy flames I will be purified
In holy flames I will be purified
In holy flames I will be purified
And so we turn
And so we turn
Turning in a circle in a circle round the sun
And so we turn
And so we turn
Turning in a circle in a circle round the sun
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame
In holy flame be purified
In holy flame

Glad to hear you liked it. If you want to jump into a Blzae album I actually wouldn’t recommend starting with Promise And Terror. It’s a good album but it doesn’t have too many catchy, memorable songs. It’s a different kind of beast.
I’d actually recommend either starting with 2021’s War Within Me or his 2000 debut Silicon Messiah.

How’re you feeling, buddy?

Oh I’m still really rough. Pretty much still completely debilitated for all intents and purposes, lest I wish to risk a full on relapse.

You keep hanging in there buddy. We understand, and we don’t want a relapse. Simply know that you are missed and we care. I have a boomerang-sized hole in my life right now and I patiently send you all my Canadian healing powers.

I saw the late night showing of Dune 2 and it was 3’oclock before I got out of the theater thanks to that time change.

Thanks guys. I had an MRI on Tuesday and I’m seeing the neurologist tomorrow, so I’ll know more about my recovery in less than 24 hours.

Have you tried smoking copious amounts of pot? It just might work!

Probably just make things worse to be honest. I shan’t dare to imagine how I’d feel if I drank alcohol in addition to all this.

As someone who has gotten drunk while sick or approaching illness, I’ll say it’ll make you feel great until you sober up. Would not recommend for a vestibular migraine!
I only mentioned weed because I hear it helps with headaches and such like that. I’m definitely not a “weed guy” so there’s no push from me there. Mike might tell you different though!

Knowing my luck I’d probably be allergic to it anyway. Medicinally I don’t think there’s really anything much that helps with vestibular migraine recovery. It’s a very unique beast. Dizziness is a difficult symptom to alleviate.

Have you experienced this before?
Now we can spam the shit out of John’s comment section for a change with our back and forth.

Remember when he was out for the count in 2020? Same thing again.

I don’t remember. It was 2020. I was probably in a drunken stupor.

Shortly after the pandemic started, Harrison fell ill and I was a lot more worried about him then because I didn’t know what was wrong. It took him a few months to come back after that. There was a long gap of shows after the May 2020 Priest show where Harrison was missing in action. That was why 😦

Oh, I guess I don’t remember. 2020-2022 blended together as the COVID years like you said. Now imagine you were drinking 8 beers minimum nearly every night on top of alternatively whiskey, gin, and rum and you can imagine it’s somewhat hazy to me.
I was curious if the migraines were why he waited to get his driver’s license for so long since he hinted that it wasn’t from lack of trying.

For me, I was just nervous. And the truth is I still enjoy a good day at home with no driving.

I enjoy that too. Especially the rare day I don’t even bother getting out of bed until the night.

I can’t do that, I’m a morning person and I like to use it! This morning I’m writing up a topic related to the new Priest album.

When I was younger, I was more anxious, so I’d get out of bed for FOMO or feeling that I’m not being productive or whatever.
Now I’m browbeaten enough by life that sometimes “Face the Day” starts playing in my head when I wake up and when I think about rising I ask myself, “Why?”
I admire your tenacity and drive though! Can’t wait to read the Priest talk.

Well I spent most of this week on the couch or in bed, so I feel like I have some catching up to do in the writing department. Priest was a big part of catching up. I usually don’t write in the afternoons or write an album right on release. I went for it this time! The album demanded it.

I finished a new and strenuous writing project a week or so ago. It’s rewarding, isn’t it? Mine was over 90 pages. It makes me stupidly happy to convert my word file to a PDF. Feels so pro. Here’s to catching up!

Yes. August 2020. I spent six months slowly recovering before I was back to normal.

Fuck, man. That sucks. If you want a giggle, sometimes I get migraines after I ejaculate. I hope that makes you feel better!

Sorry you had to read that, John. I forgot where I was posting for a minute.

Perhaps a little. By the way, this didn’t have much to do with my licence back in the day. I just had difficulty passing the test (but did recently pass two years without a single traffic infringement, so you know my skill isn’t in question).
And by the song “Face the Day”, are you referring to the one by Australian band The Angels (Angel City in the US)?

Yeah, that’s the song. Us people in the U.S. are probably more familiar with the Great White cover which you may or may not have heard.

I have not actually (and will not alas until my condition improves) and wasn’t even aware of it. That’s quite cool.

You’d probably like it. It’s more hard rock/metal sounding as you might have expected.

Hell, you’d probably dig their first record from before they went bluesy. It’s very ’80s Priest. Defenders more than Screaming.
