Have a seat and prepare to stay awhile. There are a ton of releases this week and the most we have had on the list in quite awhile. A lot of these are throwback artist that have been around a very long time and it is awesome to get some new releases from them even if there are some greatest hit type packages. My favorites are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what you are interested in or if I missed anything. Thanks and have a great weekend!!
Tom Petty – An American Treasure – (Reprise Records) – From the press release…The 60-track set unveils dozens of previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions of classic songs, rarities, historic live performances and deep tracks that spotlight Tom’s remarkable depth and evolution as a revered and tremendously influential songwriter, recording artist and performer. An American Treasure marks the first release of Tom Petty music since the artist’s tragic passing in October 2017. I don’t think I can add to that.
Billy Idol – Vital Idol: Revitalized – (Capitol Records): I love Billy Idol and not sure I need another Vital Idol, but if it is as creative and good as the first, than this will be a nice addition. Plus it has a remix of “Save Me Now” which is one of my favorite Idol songs. I will get this one. I didn’t see a video, so here is Save Me Now (Original).
Rod Stewart – Blood Red Roses – (Republic Records): Rod Stewart…what else do you need to know. He could sing the phone book and I would be fine with that. This is his 30th Studio Album…dang that is a lot.
Phil Collins – Plays Well With Others – (Rhino Entertainment): This is a really cool collection. It is all the songs that Phil has played on or sang on with other artists. And it is quite a collection of 59 songs. Here is Frida’s “I Know There is Something Going On” with Phil’s signature drum sound.
Dynazty – Firesign – (AFM Records): I kinda like this Swedish rock band and now they are on their 6th album. The Swedes have been carrying the flame for rock for years and they have produced so many rock bands and that is one country where Rock is NOT DEAD!!
And there a so many more…too many to get through in one week or hell, one month. I hope there is something for you.
Alcatrazz – Live in Japan 1984: Complete Edition – (Ward Records)
Mudhoney – Digital Garbage – (Sub Pop Records)
Pixies – Come on Pilgrim…It’s Surfer Rose – (4AD)
Jon Batiste – Hollywood Africans – (Verve Label Group)
Loretta Lynn – Wouldn’t It Be Great – (Sony Legacy)
Cher – Dancing Queen – (Warner Bros)
Aretha Franklin – The Atlantic Singles Collection (1967-1970) – (Rhino)
Elevation Worship – Hallelujah Here Below – (Elevation Church)
Cypress Hill – Elephants on Acid – (BMG)
John Butler Trio – Home – (Nettwerk Records)
Beartooth – Disease – (Red Bull Records)
New Rod Stewart!? He kept that quiet… though I guess I haven’t been paying attention.
I’ll likely check out the Loretta Lynn and Mudhoney releases. Lynn is always worth a listen… she’s consistently great.
And Atlantic wasted no time getting an Aretha Franklin collection out, eh?

The Rod one was a surprise. On the Aretha, I actually think that one was already planned as I found it the week of her death and added to my New Release page. Just a coincidence.

I actually just read a Rolling Stone article / interview with Rod all about this album and how he went about recording it. Curious.

Interesting. I will check the article out and the album.

I dare say the article would be more interesting than the album, but I’m curious to learn how you get on with it.

His disco era, and his 80’s era persona totally turned me off ever hearing new stuff from him. It’s definitely pre ’78 Rod for me.
In fact, I just bought a real nice copy of Gasoline Alley for cheap.

I stop at those 70’s albums, too. He was a very different artist back then.

I’m intrigued by the Alcatrazz live album for four reasons…
1-It features two dudes from New England and Bonnet of course..
2- Yngwie is only 19 or 20 years old on this album….
3- Only album I ever owned by this band was the debut which was pretty decent..
4- MSG’s Desert Song iron here as well which is a great tune considering Graham was only in the band for 5 minutes hahaha

Those are 4 good reasons. I don’t know much about them and didn’t know if this was a re-issue or a newly unearthed old concert.

I read that it was released in Japan as a home video, but the audio was recently discovered so never released.

Didn’t know about the Vital Idol… that’s a maybe. And I saw the Alcatrazz one in the shop, it looked very tempting. There’s been so many Alcatrazz reissues/box sets lately I’ve lost track.
So far I’ve just bought the Anaal Nathrakh album and the Cinderella box set.

That Vital Idol is pretty weak. I am wanting the Cinderella one more and more.

That’s a bummer about Idol but good to know. I’m only a kinda fair weather fan of him anyway.

I am a little more than that, but still hesitated to buy and I am glad I did. This will be one of those, if I find a used copy, I will grab it.

I have the Tom Petty set on vinyl ordered as well as All Them Witches new one.
I bought the new Electric Citizen album from their show with Monster Magnet last night.
I have pretty close to zero interest in Collins, Idol or Stewart.
Loretta Lynn, Alcatrazz, Pixies, Mudhoney, and a few more unmentioned metal releases are tempting though.

That Petty one will go o the Christmas list but nothing else. The Idol one isn’t any good. Very disappointed.

I was a fan of Gen X and Idol’s 80’s stuff.
However, I think I stuck around to hear Steve Stevens more than Billy.
For me, Billy jumped the shark long before he was on Shark Week.

I am getting ready to start a Billy Idol review series starting with Gen X of course.

The USPS is upset with 1537 because of the ever building pile of fan mail and ladies undergarments.

Is he ordering the ladies undergarments or are people actually sending. I wouldn’t be surprised by either.

I would say 70/30.
His Jame Gumb in front of a mirror scene from Silence of the Lambs is spot on.
