I know what you are thinking, Why am I writing about an Ed Sheeran song? Well, I will tell you, I am not real sure. His new album is nothing but collaborations with mostly hip hop and pop artist and honestly, it isn’t that great. It is pretty stale for me. I would rather hear just Ed as to me that is where he shines. Now, I am an old fart and don’t get today’s music, all that crap, but I do know a good song when I hear it.
Oh yeah, now I remember. There is one song on the album, the very last song, that totally kicks ass. It is his collaboration with Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars. The song is called “Blow” and is the heaviest and most rocking song Ed Sheeran has ever done…at least from what I have heard of his work.
The song starts off with a gritty, distorted guitar riff and a scream all reminiscent of Greta Van Fleet and lyrically it is all about sex. With a heavy drum beat and a great rhythm section that funks it up a little, the song blazes through all the hooks and melodies that make a great little rock song. Oh yeah and there is a guitar solo…What!!!!…yep, they threw everything in and then some.
Ed, Chris and Bruno each share a verse and they all sound so great together. You get Ed’s clean vocal stylings along with Chris’ raspiness and then Bruno’s smoothness to combine for a perfect mix of talent. The song is fun and perfect to crank up during the Summer or heck, anytime.
And the video is awesome too. Instead of the power trio, you get a band full of women that rock the hell out of it on stage at The Viper Room. They take the sexiness and turn it up to 10 which if it was the boys, it wouldn’t have the same effect. I’m glad they switched it up.
Check out the song and let me know what you think!!
“BLOW”
Feelin’ like a bullet
Jumpin’ out a gun
I’m feelin’ like a winner
I feel like the one
You’re doin’ somethin’ to me
You’re doin’ somethin’ strange
Well, jump back, talk to me woman
You make me wanna make a baby[Chris Stapleton:]
A supernatural woman
A supernatural freak
Don’t know what to do
Got me feelin’ weak
Oh I wanna call you Fever, baby
You could set a fire on me
Hot damn, poppin’ like a pistol, mama
You got me down on my knees, baby, please
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you, yeah
Locked, loaded, shoot my shot tonight
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you, yeah
Pull my trigger, let me blow your mind
[Bruno Mars:]
You red-leather rocket
You little foxy queen
Everybody’s watchin’
Pretty little thing
Baby, tell me, what’s your fantasy?
Come close and let’s talk about it
You want white lines in my limousine
Whipped cream and everything in-between, yeah
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you, yeah
Locked, loaded, shoot my shot tonight
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you
Pull my trigger, let me blow your mind
I’m comin’, baby
[Ed Sheeran:]
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you, yeah
Locked, loaded, shoot my shot tonight
I’m comin’, baby
I’m gunnin’ for you
Pull my trigger, let me blow your mind
Ow!
We will agree to disagree. I quite like No 6 Collaborations. Mind you there a handful of duds but you are absolutely right, ‘Blow’ kills it!

Yeah, we will have to do that. I am so tired of today’s pop music. There is no soul to it and every song features someone else. It is just tiresome for me. I know I am getting older and I am not meant to understand that music anymore and I am totally fine with that.

I know I’ve said this before, but I just don’t get the appeal of Stapleton. I also don’t get the Ed Sheeran thing, either. It’s better than the tune with Bieber, right enough. Probably cause of Bruno.

I remember you saying he put on a terrific show as just him with a loop pedal!

He really did. It was impressive…however, I am not enjoying the collaboration album. Too much rapping and hip hop. This one rock song was pretty awesome especially compared to the rest.
