October started out with a bang last week and no signs of slowing down this week either. This seems to be the week of some massive Deluxe Box Sets with Linking Park, Tears for Fears and John Lennon each issuing one. There is a also a wide variety of artists from metal, to rock, to pop, to classical crossover, to country, to gospel and on and on. I hope there is something for you. My choices are highlighted in Blue as usual. Let me know what you want to hear and what I may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory 20th Anniversary Edition – (Warner Records): 20 years, that seems crazy. One of my favorite Linkin Park albums so I am anxious to hear all the rarities and anything else they have never released. This looks massive and awesome.
Smith & Myers – Volume 1 – (Atlantic Recordings): Brent Smith from Shinedown and musician Zach Myers have their first full length acoustic album. It has 5 new songs and 5 covers. As their previous work has been exceptional, I expect no difference here.
Tears for Fears – The Seeds of Love Box Set – (Mercury Records): Tears for Fears are back, sort of. They are releasing a 5 disc box set of one of their biggest albums which is full of rarities, demos and live versions. Can’t wait to see what was left off the table.
David Garrett – Alive: My Soundtrack – (Polydor / Universal): I like the violin, I like classical, I like pop and rock and David combines it all into great music. His innovative covers bring a new life to old songs ( and some newer songs as well). It is a nice change of pace (except maybe for this song)
Patty Smyth – It’s About Time – (Miss Grace Recordings / BMG): I have to say, I really like this song so I am going to check the former lead singer of Scandal’s new one out. Is she still The Warrior??? She just might be.
And all the rest….
John Lennon – Gimme Some Truth (Deluxe Box Sets) – (Calderstone Productions / Universal)
Travis – 10 Songs – (BMG Rights Mgmt)
Blue Oyster Cult – The Symbol Remains – (Frontiers Records)
Pride of Lions – Lion Heart – (Frontiers Records)
Wolves at the Gate – Dawn E.P. – (Solid State Records)
Yo La Tengo – Sleepless Night EP – (Matador)
Brothers Osborne – Skeletons – (EMI Nashville)
Marvin Sapp – Chosen Vessel – (Provident Label Group)
Smith And Myers has already been spun and I like. Pride of Lions will get a listen, it’s on Frontiers and Wolves At The Gate

Smith & Myers will probably be first for me and then I will start diving into the Linkin Park stuff I don’t have.

I still have to give Queen live a real good listen to still. AC/DC dropping the new tune was the big one for me this week.

Very impressed with the Patty Smyth and Blue Oyster Cult, although still pretty much the Buck Dharma-Eric Bloom band, was a step back towards their former greatness.

Yeah, not the full BOC line-up but glad to see them still kicking. I need to try that Patty one as I did like the single I heard.

I wasn’t expecting to see B.O.C. when I scrolled down! I’m not much of a fan but I’ll check out the new release for respect.

Yeah, no real interest in BOC, but I figured they still have a lot of fans.

I have John Lennon on order and may consider Tears, Linkin Park Patty Smith, BOC.
There are also new ones from Canadian band Empress, Australian band King Parrott, and the Black Sabbath Paranoid vinyl re-release.

There are more I did not list. Mostly I am selfish and add the ones not listed that I like.

Sadly, most of the stuff I put on here is only bands I have heard of. I am trying to get better and add more and more as the New Release post tend to get a lot of hits.

Tell me about it. There are so many reissues coming with 50, 40, 30 year anniversaries or less in some cases.

You often feature Pop, Christian and Country bands I have never heard of.
You do a great job of informing us.

I’ve never listened to Blue Oyster Cult much *hides*, but their new album’s really great. Love David Garrett’s too. His Paint It Black cover is stunning!
