Welcome to the First February Friday of the month. There are a handful of releases this week and I am sure you will find something. There are two this week that are of interest although no purchases will be made unless they are great. Apple Music will be my choice of streaming platforms for those two albums and they are highlighted in Blue. What are you interested in this week? What have I missed? Let me know in the comments your thoughts on the releases. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!!
Foo Fighters – Medicine at Midnight – (Roswell Records / RCA): I will admit, I am kinda burnt on Foo Fighters and have been for years. I don’t feel they have been as strong as of late and I got a little Dave Grohl overload over the years. But I will give this a listen as I do all their albums as Dave has earned that respect.
Todd La Torre – Rejoice in the Suffering – (Rat Pak Records): The current lead singer of Queensryche is finally tackling his first solo album and I think that is great. I hope it doesn’t sound anything like Queensryche because then what would’ve been the point of doing a solo album. I am not a huge fan of his version of the band, but he is a great singer and does an amazing job with them so I will give this a try.
And all the rest….
Stave – Good Woman – (Atlantic Records / Warner)
The Weather Station – Ignorance – (Fat Possum)
The Prog Collective – Worlds On Hold – (Purple Pyramid)
John Carpenter – Lost Themes III: Alive After Death – (Sacred Bones)
Nancy Sinatra – Start Walkin’ 1965-1976 – (Boots Enterprises)
Transatlantic – The Absolute Universe: Forevermore – (Century Media)
Transatlantic – The Absolute Universe: The Breath of Life – (Century Media)
Cult of Luna – The Raging River – (Cult of Luna)
Black Coffee – Subconsciously – (Ultra Records)
Dusty Springfield – The Complete Atlantic Singles: 1968-1971 – (Real Gone Music)
I’m most interested in Hayley Williams (which surprise dropped without much warning) and Transatlantic (although I don’t know which version I should focus on!).

I love and hate when artists do that. I love it because you get surprise music, but hate because I miss it in my post usually.

Have you read about her publicity campaign? She sent doll parts through the mail to fans.

Uh, no! That sounds very strange! LOL!!

I’m a big fan of The Weather Station’s Tamara Lindeman. She is a very thoughtful musician. I interviewed her a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised by her candor.

I’ve lost track of the Foo Fighters over the last 20 years or so.
They’re a group that I admire, but like U2, I feel like I’ve heard what I need to hear by them for now

I would have to say I am in the same boat with you on both of the bands. I usually give the new albums one list and move on. The best has already been done.

I’m interested in hearing Todd’s album. Just got the early years 79-81 box set on cd! Just to be in the game gotta dig up Done with Mirrors, haven’t listened to it in ages. Last time we did this was with that hob album?

Yeah! It doesn’t happen every post, but I still read them all because you do such fine work, a real service to us all and hey, sometimes I learn about new releases I might’ve missed! Rawk!

Foo Fighters, eh? Think the last thing that was worthwhile was The Colour and the Shape (sorry, Foo fans!). They have definitely made the same album more than once.
The releases I’m interested in this week are from Hayley Williams and Walking Papers.

This one is a little different. I’m not saying it is good, just a little lighter and more pop sounding in places. Hayley tricked me and I wasn’t able to get that in my list as she waited to last minute to announce.

It’s a little ironic that Tate and LaTorre both came out with albums around the same time. It took me a few seconds to get into Tate’s song but once I did, I liked it. As for Todd, the song you feature here reminds me more of Helloween than Queensryche but that’s probably just me.

I am sure it was a coincidence. The LaTorre album is nothing like Queensryche. Much heavier and I think Helloween might be a good comparison. I enjoyed it a lot.

Umm nothing for me this week. Mmmm maybe Todd if it’s a nod towards Crimson Glory.

It’s pretty heavy stuff. I don’t know Crimson Glory, but I thought it was pretty good.

I only know the Foo Fighters because their drummer was in the Queen documentary, “The Show Must Go On.” But yeah, not much of a Foo Fighters fan. Other than that, there’s nothing really here for me. But I appreciate you for doing this John.
