On June 13, 1985, Ratt released their second full length album called ‘Invasion of Your Privacy’. After the success of their debut ‘Out of the Cellar’, Ratt wasted no time in repeating that formula and delivering another solid album. The first single off that album was “Lay It Down” and released in the same month as the album. This is the 2nd 7″ Single I found while on vacation down in Florida. My copy is another standard US Version and it doesn’t use the cover of the album as the single cover. Instead, we get individual shots of each band member.

The single was the band’s second, and last, Top 40 Hit and I am honestly surprised by that fact. The band has had so many great songs and is a legend in the Hair Metal/Glam Metal scene that to have only 2 Top 40 sings is nuts. It did go to #4 on the Mainstream Rock Chart which is probably where most of their songs charted anyway.
A-SIDE:

“Lay It Down” is what you had come to expect from the boys and they didn’t disappoint. DeMartini completely shreds it on this song and shows what a beast he was. The song was one of the few written by almost everyone in the band…well, except Blotzer. He isn’t involved in any of the writing on this album or the last album. He gets his first writing credit on the next album, ‘Dancing Undercover’. The video opens up with a birthday party and apparently when he blows out the candle he wishes to be a rock star as it cuts to the band. The video also features the album cover girl Marianne Gravatte so no Tawny Kitaen this time around. She doesn’t do much but walk around and look pretty and that is basically all we really need anyway.
B-SIDE:

“Got Me On The Line” is the B-Side and an album track, no non-album B-Sides here…sorry. The song starts off with a cheesy phone ringing on then someone answering with a hello. It is really a corny opener to such an overall very bland song. It is rather generic and nothing special to make it memorable and as a result I won’t spend much time on it. There is a good guitar solo, but it can’t save the song.
And there is the 2nd Ratt single we found while on vacation this Summer. I am liking talking 7″ Singles in the collection, so let’s do some more of these. We will come back next week and do another one we found while on vacation this past Summer. Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, I didn’t know that “Lay It Down” was Ratt’s last top 40 hit. I remember “You’re in Love” from the same album getting all the play on MTV.
