Ace Frehley – “Bronx Boy” – 12″ Single

Back in April 2018, Ace Frehley released his first single from his upcoming (yet unannounced) album.  The day was actually April 27th which was Ace’s birthday…do you think they planned that??  This the first new track since his 2014 album ‘Space Invaders’.  He did have a new album back in 2016, but it was a cover’s album so nothing new there.

The reception of the new music was so great, that a special limited edition 12″ Single has now been released (3 months later).  They had no intentions of releasing a physical copy of the song, but the people spoke and Ace & the record company listened and BAM!!  Physical product.

I was able to pick up one of these Limited Numbered Edition 12″ Singles with the White/Black Marble vinyl.  And they weren’t kidding about being numbered.  I am #3701 out of #4000, I believe.

The new song “Bronx Boy” is a heavy guitar driven track…what else would you expect, it is Ace “freakin’ Frehley.  There is a raw, grittiness to the song that harkens back to his early days growing up in the Bronx, New York.  The song opens with a quick, nasty guitar riff and jumps right into the vocals describing Ace’s life as a “street kid” and his “street life”.  The vocals are rough and classic Ace which is what is great about the song.  Plus, the guitar solo is what we know and love from the Spaceman and he doesn’t disappoint.

The 12″ Single came with three other songs.  On Side One, you get the track “Reckless” from Space Invaders and is noted as a Remix.  The other two tracks are covers from his last release ‘Origins, Vol. 1’.  you get “White Room” with drummer Scot Coogan assisting on vocals and the Kiss classic “Cold Gin” with very special guest, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam.  I was hoping for something unreleased, but at least we got four songs rather than two.  I do think the “Cold Gin” cover is awesome and Mike’s guitar solo is outstanding.

The release is on Black/White Marble vinyl and is so pretty…

All-in-all it is a nice addition to my Kiss Collection (yes, Kiss Collection as he will forever be a member of the Kiss family).  The new single, “Bronx Boy” doesn’t blow me away, but it is maybe a good sign on what is to come with the new album.  I am eagerly awaiting it’s arrival…whenever that might be. Oh yeah, I think I heard in a interview that the cover picture is from an old passport photo during his days with Kiss…that is cool.

“Bronx Boy”

[Verse 1]
Better be careful
Or you could disappear
You might be bought or sold
No one will even care
Now there’s a golden rule:
Be ready to attack
Remember loyalty
Ain’t gotta watch my back

[Chorus]
Bronx Boy
Just trying to exist
I never played with toys
Don’t give me bullshit
I’m just a street kid
We seek and destroy
Now there’s a bunch of it
I’m just a Bronx Boy. (Bronx Boy!)

[Verse 2]
Better watch out
You better stay awake
’cause this is our turf
And there’ll be hell to pay
We got our switchblades
Our homemade zip guns
We’re in a rumble
Soon as the night comes

[Chorus]
Bronx Boy
Just trying to exist
I never played with toys
Don’t give me bullshit
I’m just a street kid
We seek and destroy
Now there’s a bunch of it
I’m just a Bronx Boy. (Bronx Boy!)

[Bridge]
Now listen
You better not lose your way
And be careful!
Don’t question what I have to say
You better look out!

[Chorus]
Bronx Boy
Just trying to exist
I never played with toys
Don’t give me bullshit
I’m just a street kid
We seek and destroy
Now there’s a bunch of it
I’m just a Bronx Boy. (Bronx Boy!)

  1. Just got it today haven’t spun it yet! I’m disappointed about the 2 songs we already have but I’m OK with it as well. Better a nice 12″ single fully loaded with music. Mine is numbered 0369.

  2. Nice point about him forever being a part of the Kiss family – I was thinking about that when figuring out how to sort a Noel Gallagher CD recently. He’ll forever be associated with Oasis for me!
