The second Friday in to May and more bands have moved their releases to later in the year. Covid-19 is taking its toll on music for sure. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any brave artists still willing to dare release an able in these times. I salute you and since there is been so little out the last few weeks, I am will to try a few this week. I will highlight those in Blue as usual. Let me know what interests you and what I missed this week. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Butch Walker – American Love Story – (Ruby Red Records): Singer/Songwriter/Rocker/Producer – jack of all trades, Butch is back with another solo album. His resume is pretty impressive and I think he had been working with Matt Nathanson lately, who I love, so Butch will get a listen.
Fake Names – Fake Names – (Epitath): Punk rock supergroup Fake Names – which includes Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace, One Last Wish), Dennis Lyxzén (Refused, International Noise Conspiracy, INVSN), and Johnny Temple (Girls Against Boys, Soulside)…yeah, this line-up is worth a spin.
Mark Lanegan – Straight Songs of Sorrow – (Heavenly Recordings): Vocalist of the Screaming Trees is bring us his next solo album. I’m not really familiar with, but the album cover makes me think this is going to be great. I’m going to give it a try. And from what I’ve heard below, it just might be that.
And the rest….
Axel Rudi Pell – Sign of the Times – (Steamhammer)
The Black Moods – Sunshine – (Steelhorse Entertainment)
Hayley Williams – Petals for Armor – (Atlantic)
I like some of Lanegan’s solo stuff a lot, but haven’t kept up. Most interested in Hayley Williams as the last Paramore album was great.

Hayley is fantastic. I liked the earlier Paramore, but kind of faded away from me. I will need to check it out. My daughter loves that album so you think I would’ve listened to it by now.

It gets poppier, which probably means I like it more and you like it less.

Big Sugar up in the frozen tundra here released their new record ‘Eternity Now’. Looking forward to digging into that.
The end of the month will be excellent with RUSH and Leppard

Never got in to him much. I do like the 3 albums with Jeff Scott Soto, but that was more for Jeff than Axel. I love me some Soto on vocals.

I have a review coming tomorrow on it. Gioeli has been on vocals since 98 and his doing pretty good.

Can’t wait to read that. Gioeli is awesome and maybe I now need to check it out as I like his vocals.

Lanegan’s one that I’ve liked everything I’ve heard – I just haven’t heard very much so far!

I think I need to go give it a listen. that spat he was having with Liam recently is plan stupid and only for publicity because he has an album…kind of shallow!!

This is going to sound harsh but I really dislike Hayley Williams. Strong dislike.

That is interesting, but you have every right to dislike. She doesn’t rock my world either, but I don’t dislike her, more indifferent.
