Welcome to the final Friday New Release post in August and let me tell you there are a bunch to choose from this week. There are over 50 new albums to pick from so sit back and get on scrolling as I am sure you will find something you like. There are a handful I want to hear, but nothing I am running out to buy at this time. The ones I want to hear are marked in Blue. Let me know what you see that you want to hear and let me know what I might have missed that came out this week so everyone will know. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Brian Setzer – Gotta Have the Rumble – (Surfdog): Brian Setzer, former front man of The Stray Cats, is back with another solo album. I am hoping for some good old rockabilly as no one does it better. His singing and guitar playing are exceptional and I am always ready for a good time from Setzer.
Big Red Machine – How Long Do You Think It’s Going to Last? – (Jagjaguwar / 37d03d): I know nothing about this band, but keep seeing good things about it so I am going to venture out and try this one. The band is Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon and the music is indie/alt/folktronica which I didn’t even know was a thing. We will see how it turns out.
OneRepublic – Human – (Mosley Music / Interscope): Ryan Tedder and the guys are finally back with a new album. This thing was supposed to come out right when COVID hit and shut down the industry. It is finally seeing the light of day and I do enjoy Tedder’s songwriting so I am interested in hearing what the gang has to offer. I am sure it will be more pop bliss, at least I hope so.
Nelly – Heartland – (Records Label / Columbia): Nelly doing country!! Hip Hop and Country?? Part of me is fascinated to hear this and part of me is not. I do like Nelly’s stuff, but country…ehh! I guess I will have to give this one a shot.
And then you have all the rest…

Holy smokes that a long list. Nothing here for me, this time. It’s weird, I usually have a gut reaction to something, but this time I just went through and was happy for all these people but I don’t need to rush out on any of them. I was surprised to see Toad The Wet Sprocket still going, cool. And Robben Ford would be worth hearing at some point, as always.

And yes, a very long list. They have been getting longer each week and it gets exhausting putting them together, if I’m being honest. But these posts are so popular I have to put the effort in to it.

The effort is much appreciated! I know it seems we just skim through it, but it’s an invaluable resource far better than scrolling through new releases other sites!

The fact people find stuff they weren’t expecting is what keeps me going.

I do want to check out that Halsey album, I’m mostly curious because Trent Reznor produced it. There are a fair few others I’ll probably give a listen to.

I didn’t realize that until just recently. Now that one has me a little interested as well.

Supergrass is a good one – though I’m always surprised when albums like it are hitting significant milestones and getting the deluxe treatment, surely they can’t be that old?!

I hate to say it but we are all getting that old. LOL 😂

Just did a take on Eddie Cochran’s Summertime Blues’. Setzer was mentioned more than once.

That is cool. Setzer is still keeping that music alive.

That’s a massive list this week. I’ll need to check out that Big Red Machine – I’ve seen it all over the place but didn’t know what it was.
Out of curiosity I clicked on the Kat Von D one…. mostly with the sound off because I’m not sure what’s worse; the music or the video, I spent the entire time muttering ‘what the f**k?’ It feels like a ‘The Room’ of music videos and goes to show that just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
