Happy Friday…I hope everyone is staying cool. Speaking of cool, we have a bunch of cool stuff for you this week. We don’t have as much as some weeks, but there are still over 30 releases this week. I have a few I am interested in hearing and some I’ll get to eventually and those will be bolded. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend!
James Bay – Leap – (Mercury Records / Republic Records / UMG): James Bay is back and it has been awhile as it has been 4 years since his last one. He is a fantastic guitarists and his music leans between folk, pop, rock, Americana and whatever else he feels like playing. I am excited to get some new tunes.
Journey – Freedom – (Freedom JN / BMG): Speaking of being gone awhile, Journey hasn’t had a new album in 11 years…that’s right…11 years. It is about time. Can’t wait to hear Neal rip on guitar and Arnel sing his heart out (man what a voice he has). Even Dean Castronovo sings on one song so this should be a good listen. Can’t wait to hear it.
Cleanbreak – Coming Home – (Frontiers Records): Cleanbreak consists of Former QUIET RIOT singer and “American Idol” finalist James Durbin has joined forces with STRYPER members Robert Sweet and Perry Richardson (bass; also ex-FIREHOUSE) and RIOT guitarist Mike Flyntz. It is one of Frontiers Records supergroups. Man, is there anyone they haven’t put together. I am interested in this one because of Durbin, otherwise, Frontiers needs to stop doing these supergroups. There is my short soapbox.
Nelson – Greatest Hits (And Near Misses) (Remastered) – (UMG Recordings): I haven’t listened to Nelson in years, so when I saw this, I thought, I want to listen to these guys. So when I can squeeze it in, I will give it a spin so it can take me back to the glam scene of the late 80’s early 90’s.
And then all the rest…
Neil Young & Crazy Horse – Toast – (The Other Shoe Productions / Reprise Records)
Party Dozen – The Real Work – (Temporary Residence)
Blind Channel – Lifestyles of the Sick & Dangerous – (Bloodbros Oy / Century Media)
Crossing Rubicon – Perfect Storm – (Frontiers Records)
Ardours – Anatomy of a Moment – (Frontiers Records)

Torturized – Aftermath – (Apostacy Records / Torturized)

NoSo – Stay Proud of Me – (Partisan Records)
Wu-Lu – Loggerhead – (Warp Records)
I walked about ten miles in the oppressive heat today. My balls were rank when I got home. I’ve since showered, and I forget the point of this anecdote.

Cleanbreak is pretty good. I’m listening to Journey now.

I will check out Journey but if I’m hearing to much of the preacher on keys I’m out! Your soapbox comment on supergroups made me laugh man….you are correct. Frontiers is kinda a joke putting out 100 albums every friday lol gets to be much

Ha!! Fair point on Cain!! Yes, Frontiers is a machine putting out music and supergroups. The Cleanbreak one isn’t band actually. I actually like Durbin here (hated him in Quiet Riot)

The preacher! Deke with the zingers. Wasn’t his wife spiritual advisor to Trump or something culty like that?

Yeah, something like that.

No complaints on my end! Just trying to keep cool from this oppressive heat!!

As much as I worshipped James Durbin on ‘American Idol,’ I’ll have to pass on the Cleanbreak thing! (Unless it’s like mind-blowing really good.)

I thought it was pretty good. Better than what I’ve heard lately from him (way better than Quiet Riot as I hated that stuff).

Even better than ‘The Beast Awakens’?

I didn’t like that one so much.

I’m with you on that one.

Don’t know those. Hope they are good.

Rae Morris is more of a boutique artist, but Burna Boy is pretty big, especially for a Nigerian artist.

Sorry to see James Bay’s gone back to his long hair & hat look, as I liked him with short hair and sharper clothes. Oh well… I’m liking what I’ve heard from The Faim, and wow, some of these bands are scraping the bottom of the barrel when choosing their names: Organectomy & Viagra Boys?!?

He did go back to the look on his first album. Probably because it sold better!!

I’ll likely pick up the Nelson disk (love the outfits!). I’m glad I’m not the only one noticing the flood of music from Frontiers. I will pass on this super group thing. I’ve watched less than a half hour total of the idol/voice/talent/chef shows. I don’t know this James Durbin guy. Thank goodness for a light week. I am still enjoying my Coheed disc, as well as the Crashdiet stuff.

I am sure that Coheed will keep you busy. I would love to ask Frontiers why their strategy is all in one week for the month and not spread out. It must work as they’ve been doing it for years.

I’ll want to hear the Neil Young, at some point, but I don’t need to run out and get it. My wallet is relieved, after the money soak that is Niagara Falls and Clifton Hill!

Ha! I can understand that.

I’ve spent the weekend listening to Dio’s Holy Diver super deluxe set that came out Friday. I’ll pass on the new remix, the original was perfect the way it was and the 2022 remaster is clear and sharp. I’d say it is on par with Steve Hoffman’s gold disc Audio Fidelity release. The real bonus is the concert from 1983, Dio’s voice is so raw and powerful on this recording and he had his best band with him.

Glad you are digging the Dio. I don’t understand the need to remix these old albums. Whitesnake has been doing it and I will tell you it is a waste of time. I prefer the original mix.

You “rate” it…or “hate” it??

Lol I did enjoy listening to it. It was background music while I was cooking and I didn’t skip a song.
