Flying high from the release of their 9th Studio album, the band released their second single “Still Loving You” on July 3, 1984. The song went to #64 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts, but it didn’t chart in Germany. The Maxi Single I found for “Still Loving You” was a German only release and it was released to promote their German tour which ran from October 26th until December 3rd of 1984 as the dates of the tour are on the bottom of the back cover.

Side 1 was only the single “Still Loving You” from their latest album ‘Love at First Sting’. Side 2 was the song “No One Like You” from 1982’s ‘Blackout’ and “Always Somewhere” from their 1979 album ‘Lovedrive’. A good way to promote the back catalog. The songs are studio tracks and not remixes, but that’s okay because it is still a cool piece for me to have in the collection especially since was, as I said earlier, a German only release.
SIDE 1:

“Still Loving You” is one of my favorite Scorpions ballads and one of my favorite all time as well. About a couple in love that knows its over, but try to make it work one more time. The song opens with some gentle, soft riffing and Klaus singing in almost a whisper. Then the power part of the ballad kicks in and the guitar licks are blissfully beautiful and the chorus is gut-wrenchingly heartbreaking and lovely at the same time. I think this might one of Klaus Meine’s best vocal performances on any album.
SIDE 2:

Then we get one of the best songs ever by the band, “No One Like You”. The band’s first #1 in the U.S. on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. The song is legendary. A power ballad like no other. With strong guitar playing by both Jabs and Schenker again (how many times can you say that…never enough). A most impressive opening riff and a solo that plays so well for the song. Klaus’ vocals are so clean, smooth and even tender at times. The verses keep it soft and the chorus explodes with passion. What more could you want. As close to perfection as any band could get.
“Always Somewhere”, a sharp contrast to the previous track. This time around, everything is soft and gentle to the touch. Klaus almost whispers at times and at times he almost screams the chorus but filled with tenderness. The chorus might be a little cheesy, but it is very contagious and inviting. On the solo this time around is Mathias who does a bang up job. If you start the single with a ballad, you might as well finish it with another great one.
And there you have it. A cool piece in the collection and I am sure you didn’t expect back-to-back Scorpions post either. I hope you enjoyed it and don’t worry, you won’t get another Scorpions post tomorrow. We will be back next week with the album below…

Another nice score John. Kinda surprising they put No One Like You on this 45 a few years already after it had been out as a single.

It is a little surprising, but a lot of their extra releases seem to cover many years as a way to get people to check out the back catalog.

They really pushed their catalog every time they released E.P.’s, singles or anything other than an album.

A lot of the bands that formed in the 70s and had mainstream success in the 80s did it. Most of my Whitesnake singles had tracks from earlier albums.
