September 2023 Purchases – Vinyl & CDs

Welcome to the monthly round-up as we go through the purchases here at 2 Loud 2 Old Music for September 2023. It was another good month for vinyl and CDs, but that was it. Nothing out of the ordinary this month like Cassettes, 8-Tracks or even books. Strictly vinyl and CDs which I won’t complain about because that is enough. The month started out with a couple new releases that came out at the end of August, but didn’t arrive until after the August post was done. I picked the new albums for both Eclipse and H.E.A.T. and both are great…

Then during Labor Day weekend, my wife and I had a kid free weekend and we went out to 2nd & Charles so she could look for books. I, of course, took advantage of the Buy 2 Get 2 Free in the used CD section where I picked up 10 CDs. Two of them were actually still sealed (Lifehouse and Halestorm)!! I picked up a handful of Live including their debut E.P., some Wallflowers and a great Pearl Jam live CD and as Jimmy Buffett passed away, I grabbed his greatest hits in memory of him.

Another great thing that happened the next weekend was that my local record store, Noble Records, ended up having 2 Store Exclusives this month. One was a Southern Rock band from North Carolina called Brotherhood of Peace and the other was a Krautrock band called Necronomicon. I love collecting his Exclusives as a lot of the time it is not necessarily a genre I listen to so it makes it kind of exciting. I think this brings me to 11 in the Noble Collection…still missing the first 3 he ever did a couple years back.

Then vinyl started pouring in from Pre-orders from some time back…first was The Defiants new one ‘Drive’…

Scorpions re-issue of ‘Humanity: Hour 1’…well actually I just ordered that one thanks to Mike Ladano pointing out that it was available on Amazon…

The new Needtobreathe album came out and I got it on all formats…Vinyl and CD…no cassette offered this time around…

And then Skid Row’s ‘Slave to the Grind’ reissue…finally a more affordable version of the vinyl…

And then I received a little ad money from the site and since that goes straight in to the collection, I picked up a few things. First was the KissMyWaxRecords re-issue of Slaughter’s ‘The Wild Side’ album and it is a beauty…

I also picked up a couple of CDs including a Japanese Edition of Night Ranger’s ‘Neverland’ and at the same time a Limp Bizkit album called ‘Results May Vary’…

And the last thing with the ad money was a 10 CD box set of Radio Broadcast over the years for Kiss!!! It even included a disc of a Frehley’s Comet live show. How could I say no to that…

I thought I was done with purchases for September, but my daughter wanted to hit a thrift store so I took her and lo & behold, I picked up a few CDs for $0.99 a piece. I grabbed a John Mayer, a Mat Kearney and a David Cook CD. All a little on the softer side of rock, but I like that side as well.

And then there was one more item that came out last Friday and arrived just in time for this post. The new box set from Candlebox called The Maverick Years. It is their first 3 albums plus an extra LP of unreleased demos and alternate mixes. The album ‘Lucy’ had never been released on vinyl prior to this set. I can’t wait to break it open and dive in to it…

And that is all of it. Here it is one last time for your viewing pleasure. Thanks for hanging around and we will do this again in October as we have more box sets and new releases that should arrive as well as other surprises.

  1. One great thing about Columbia House in the early 90’s: They were still making and selling vinyl in Canada. Which is why I am lucky to have Slave to the Grind on original 1991 vinyl, a rarity indeed.

These posts always make me jealous and this time it’s KISS.

As for the band Live, a former friend of mine held them as her favourite band so I rarely listen to them now if ever.

  2. Very nice haul. I’ve been jamming out to Necronomicon since I saw the Noble Records stuff about them, pretty cool stuff. Sadly I’m using Spotify for it as I doubt I’ll run across the repress. That Skid Row reissue is very welcome stuff too, I have one on the way. The prices on it were out of control.
