Episode 99 – Top Ballads…Remastered

On July 3 2020, we did the Nigel Tufnel Top Ten Ballads on the LeBrain Train with six sets of lists.  And it was great!  We had lists from Meat, Harrison, Holen, Darr, and Len Labelle.  Unfortunately due to Facebook Live and a bad internet connection, I find this show impossible to watch today.  Harrison and I have been trying to talk Meat into doing a “remastered” version of the show in the new Cinco De Listo format for a long time, and we finally twisted his arm.  The new panel tonight:

“X”?  That’s right.  This week’s show is not just a list show.  There will be a sixth panel member, and that member’s voice and likeness will be obscured for the whole countdown.  It will be up to the others to figure out who “X” is, and they have five songs with which to do it.

I love a mystery and I’m really looking forward to this!  Tune in tonight for six lists of awesome ballads, and a little Friday evening mystery too.  Where’s Mulder when you need him?

Come join me tonight as I worm my in to tonight’s episode of The LeBrain Train. See what Mike says below about the show…it will be lots of fun. Will Britney Spears, NSync or Backstreet Boys make an appearance on the list…OMG I hope not!!! But a lot of great ones will! I think my list will differ greatly from the others so should be interesting.

Episode 98 – The Millennium Show: Top Five Albums from the year 2000

A suggestion from the Meat Man — why not do our top albums from the year 2000?  The turn of the millennium was a weird time in metal.  A lot of bands were still suffering from the fallout of the past decade, while others were in the midst of big comebacks.  But there were so much more than just metal in 2000, as you will see with tonight’s lists!

Max the Axe – ‘Oktoberfest Cheer’ E.P. – Album Review

Max the Axe has made an appearance on our site before with the stellar album ‘Status Electric’. They are back but this time around we only get a 3 song E.P. which is fine. I will take what I can get. I want to thank Mike Ladano for making sure I received a copy as he knows I enjoyed the last one.

Max the Axe are a Canadian band out of Kitchener, Ontario (yeah, I don’t know where that is either).  It is made up of the following members…

The Band:

  • Mike “Max” Koutis – guitar
  • Eric Litwiller – vocals
  • Dave Haslam – drums
  • Mike “Mitch” Mitchell on bass

You probably know Eric Litwiller if you watch The LeBrain Train as he is Uncle Meat. I have been on the show with him and he is a great guy so it is cool to say I know someone in the band. Before we get in the album, what did I say about the last album? I think it was this…“The songs are filled with some gritty, distorted guitars and the lyrics at times have a slight comedic flare which makes me think that this band is the bastard child of Black Sabbath and Barenaked Ladies.” This time around, we get something totally different. I feel a little more rawness and punk attitude at times and at others a bunch of drunks having a good time…more on that later.

Max the Axe – ‘Status Electric’ – Album Review

Before I get into the review, I want to note that I did not pay for this CD, it was sent to me.  However, it wasn’t sent by the band or even any PR team, but by the Mighty Mike Ladano as a gift because he thought I would like it (very cool of him…thanks Mike!).  He knows the band though so I guess he is their PR guy.  I hope he is getting paid.  Anyway, the review set forth is my honest take on the album.

Max the Axe is a Canadian band out of Kitchener, Ontario (yeah, I don’t know where that is either).  The songs are filled with some gritty, distorted guitars and the lyrics at times have a slight comedic flare which makes me think that this band is the bastard child of Black Sabbath and Barenaked Ladies.

The Band:

  • Mike “Max” Koutis – guitar
  • Eric Litwiller – vocals
  • Dave Haslam – drums
  • Mike “Mitch” Mitchell on bass.

When the band shined was when they were completely in beast mode with the songs “River Grand” and “Scales of Justice”.  The guitar work was outstanding with the distortion and the drum fills were great.  “Scales of Justice” was an epic song at over 6 minutes and some of the best riffs.  What might be my favorite song off the album is “Sick of Living”. The band  slays it in what I thought sounded like a mix of Sabbath and Priest.  The guitar solo was one of the best on the album and that scream was so rock & roll.
