My Sunday Song – “Rocket” by Robbie Williams (feat. Tony Iommi)

For My Sunday Song #444, we are talking one of Robbie Williams new songs called “Rocket” off his yet to be officially announced new album ‘BritPop’. The first single from the album is a collaboration between Robbie and Black Sabbath’s own Tony Iommi. The song was also written with Karl Brazil and Tony Longworth. The song debuted on the UK chart at #36 and is a new, refreshed sound for Robbie as it has been some time since a new album and I could not be happier.

The song appears to be about his career and his life. It was a tough road for him with the ups and downs throughout. He says when it works it is great and when it doesn’t it hurts. People came after him when he was on top and kicked him when he was down. Right now he is so glad to be alive and ready to push things to another limit. He is full of confidence and ready to break through with a new sound. If you don’t push yourself you basically are wasting your time and your life. He wants to rocket through and try new things and this is his statement on that fact.

The song is a high energy brit pop sound that rocks out a little bit harder than what we are used to with Robbie. That is in big parts to the killer rock riffs from the one and only Tony Iommi. The song is less than 3 minutes long and flies through like a rocket, thus the title. The drums are frenzied like the riffs while the chorus is big and pretty damn catchy. You will start singing along immediately. There backing vocals from the great Glenn Hughes, but honestly, if you didn’t tell me I might not have noticed that. The song is an adrenaline filled, four to the floor, speed filled junkie, bombastic ride. Hold on to the steering wheel and don’t let go.

Friday New Releases – October 4, 2024

October is finally here, Fall is kicking in, temperatures are starting to cool, but the new releases are still heating up with over 50 releases. This week I have a couple of these on pre-order and a bunch I want to hear. The Wild Feathers and Texas Hippie Coalition are on pre-order. I might order the Twisted Sister one and I will listen to the new James Bay. I’m not sure I care anymore about Motley Crue as they are losing me as a fan with their behavior and the fact they came back after saying they wouldn’t. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

  • The Wild Feathers – Sirens – (New West Records)
  • James Bay – Changes All The Time – (Mercury Records / UMG)
  • Motley Crue – Cancelled E.P. – (Masters / Big Machine Label Group)

My Sunday Song – “Loser Gets It All” By Black Sabbath

For My Sunday Song #391, we are kicking off a whole new 10 song set and this time around, Mike Ladano from Grab A Stack of Rock will be picking the songs. And he has a great theme and this one is Japanese Bonus Tracks. It is those songs that were recorded during the album’s recording, but didn’t make the main album around the world, but made it to the Japanese edition as a bonus track. The more, expensive sought after Japanese Edition. If it has a Japanese bonus track, Mike is going to buy it. The first song up is from Black Sabbath’s 1995 album ‘Forbidden’ and is called “Loser Gets It All”.

The music is written by Black Sabbath and the lyrics are by, then singer, Tony Martin. The song seems to be about the fact there is never a good time to lose as there are always people watching you and judging you waiting for you to fail. And when you do, they will all see it and say something. There are a lot of gambling references in the opening verse about winning, then the rest of the song is about losing.

I will admit that I didn’t (and haven’t) listened to this era of Sabbath so this song is very new to me. I do like Tony Martin’s vocals so I can get behind this one. The song is a solid rocker, it short and sweet. But I like it a lot. I read somewhere that Tony Iommi loves this song and it is one of his favorites to perform which is cool…so why didn’t it make the album and was it relegated to a bonus track??? The guitar playing is great, I mean it is Tony Iommi so why wouldn’t it be. I found Mike’s review of the Forbidden album and he hated that album, but stated that this song was the best song on the album. Crazy!!

You Picked It! – Ozzy Osbourne – ‘Patient Number 9’ (2022) – Album Review

Alright…You Picked It! And this one I thought was going to be a blowout as Ozzy jumped out front right out of the gate, but others gained ground. In the end, Ozzy held on and never lost its #1 ranking. Therefore the winner was Ozzy Osbourne’s – ‘Patient Number 9’ which is a new release and not one I’ve actually bought yet…will this make me run out and buy it? We will see. Here are the results.

  1. Ozzy Osbourne – ‘Patient Number 9’ – 10 votes
  2. Joy Division – ‘Unknown Pleasures’ – 5 votes
  3. The Darkness – ‘Permission to Land’ – 5 votes
  4. Loretta Lynn – ‘Van Lear Rose’ – 3 votes
  5. Peter Gabriel – ‘So’ – 2 votes

Thanks to all for participating. The November choices will be up on Saturday! And the choices are changing as they are all now from my collection and will have a loose theme.

OZZY OSBOURNE – ‘PATIENT NUMBER 9’ (2022):

Ozzy started work on this album about 2 years ago, just days after the release of the stellar “Ordinary Man” release in 2020. I really liked that album so this one had some big shoes to fill. You keep seeing pictures of Ozzy in the media and you think to yourself, how is this man still alive. He looks like death is standing next to him, tapping him on the shoulder. However, when you hear the last album and this one, you realize, there is still plenty of life in the Prince of Darkness.

This album sees Ozzy bring back in a ton of old friends as we have guest appearances from Jeff Beck, Mike McCreedy, Eric Clapton and his old Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi. And if that wasn’t enough, former Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde is back on guitar for four of the 13 tracks. So, 10 of the 13 tracks all have a special guest, those last 3 do not. But the listed special guests are only the tip of the iceberg as there are some big names playing on this album. And speaking of 13 tracks, this album feels long…very long as it runs over an hour long…that is a lot of Ozzy.
