I can’t believe we are already in to May. Time is flying by. This week this is a lot and there isn’t. There is a lot as in I do have over 35 releases for you today, but there isn’t a lot as their are only a handful I am interested in hearing. I will mark those in Blue. Let me know what you want to hear or what I may have missed as I am sure there is something that came out that I don’t have on the list and people need to know. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
Weezer – Van Weezer – (Crush/Atlantic): I am not a Weezer fan by any stretch of the imagination, but when you name you album “Van Weezer” and this supposed to be your so called metal album I guess, that makes me interested. I am giving this a try strictly out of curiosity.
Nancy Wilson – You and Me – (Carry On Music): I am excited to hear Nancy Wilson’s new solo album. Although this ain’t Heart, it is cool she finally is releasing her first solo album. Their are 8 original tracks and four covers and some great guests including Sammy Hagar, Duff McKagan and Taylor Hawkins. We also get a song that is a tribute to Eddie Van Halen called “4 Edward”. I’m expected a good time to be had by all.
Staind – Live: It’s Been Awhile – (Yap’em / Alchemy / BMG): Staind is back together after a very long absence. Now their first album back as a band is a live album from their most recent set of live shows. Hopefully we will get an album soon enough, but for now, I am anxious to hear how they still sound. is the magic still there? We will see…
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – When God Was Great – (Hellcat): Honestly, I did not know these guys were still going strong. I always loved the horns in their music as to me it separated them from a lot of other bands. I will give this one a spin to see what is still left in their tank.
Diamante – American Dream – (Anti-Heroine): I don’t know anything about Diamante, but I loved this video and the young lady can sing. She rocks out with the best of them and now I want to hear this.
And then you have all the rest….
Bebe Rexha – Better Mistakes – (Warner Bros)
Robin McAuley – Standing on the Edge – (Frontiers Records)

That Van Morrison album is pretty noteworthy for his subject matter – it’s a two hour tirade against lockdowns, Facebook, spousal support, and pretty much everything else….

Lockdowns=bureaucratic overreach.
Facebook=vanity security risk garbage.
Spousal Support=fucking bullshit.
Pretty much everything else=fucking sucks, life isn’t worth living.
How’s that for a summary?

Also bitching about why people listen to his old music instead of his new music.

While I understand the frustration, that’s a little bitchier.

It must be annoying recording seven new albums in five years but everyone wants to just hear Moondance and Brown Eyed Girl. But it basically happens to everyone.

We should go to one of his concerts and heckle him into playing a set of only Them songs. Everything after sucks!

Ha! His old music kicks ass that is why.

Not many rock/pop artists improve with age – most do their best work in their twenties and thirties.

True! However, Paul Laine is currently doing some of his best work and sounds better than ever in The Defiants band. His voice is stronger than ever!! He’s in his 50’s.

After years of ignoring Nick Cave’s new stuff I thought the latest is very good – he’s 63. Both examples are the exception rather than the rule though.

Cool! That just moved up on the possibility list.

It’s been a very surreal episode for him… and, to be fair, he has a fair share of strange episodes.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yes he does. I have been reading Templman’s book and he speaks highly of him from the time he spent with him in the very early 70’s. He was strange, but a great friend to Ted.

I know he has a reputation of being a right cantankerous bastard and I dare say he might be the kinda guy that you view differently if you know him.
I mind reading an interview with him a few years ago (talking about whichever album he had released) and he came across as a right moody bastard… but this whole Covid episode has been pretty incredible… he’s at war with pretty much everything.

Yeah, the way Ted describes him in the book sums that up. He would try not to interrupt when he was in the flow because things would get a little off kilter if he did. It was a fine line he had to walk working with him.

Quite a disconnect between the gorgeous music and grumpy persona.

Why is she dressed??? Sorry, that was wrong.

I am so rubbing off on you, since it seems you want her to rub you off.

Looks like she’s one of those fluid folks. The kind who likes for people to release their fluids onto her chest?

Nancy Wilson’s voice definitely sounds different to when she sang “These Dreams” back in 1985 but that’s age for you. She still sounds good though.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, she ain’t singing the same, but still good enough and she has earned the respect so it gets a listen.

Aly and Aj, wow! I know they’ve been doing stuff recently in the last few years, but I’m afraid to check it out because I don’t want the new stuff to ruin my memories I have of them from their old Disney Channel stuff.

Ha!! I get it. I have bands like that. Keep the pristine memory of their prime by not listening to their crappy new stuff…Bon Jovi anyone!!

Wait, did you just type Staind and magic in the same sentence? Oooft.
Loads here this week, huh? I’ll likely be exploring Van Weezer, Nancy Wilson, Iron & Wine, Marfa Tapes, Sufjan Stevens, and Tony Joe White! If I find the time!

Yes I did. Sorry, I liked Staind…for several albums at least.

Tons of interesting ones…Amy, Ashe, Van the Man, Van Weezer, Saliva, Robin is a must and where did u find Diamante? They sound great…Whatever happened to Staind? They sound tired or maybe it’s just me.
Good luck with that Laine chat tonight!
Don’t think u saw this one coming but I’m listening to Reo and Wheels are turnin….what a flashback. And started on Confession. Digging it so far, only on page 38 now..got why it may turn some away from reading it.

Diamante, just saw hers on line and added. I saw the video and liked it. Staind are much older. Aaron broke from the band and went Country with a lot of success.
Thanks on Laine!! It should be fun.
Cool and REO and Confess. It is a tough read at times, but overall it was a good educational read on what he went through.

I haven’t kept up with weezer since 2017 or so (I think I’ve somehow missed several albums since!) – I’m also intrigued by this ‘van’ idea

The Weezer one wasn’t bad. I enjoyed it and I’m not a huge Weezer fan.

The Van cut made me smile. I like it. You have me curious on the Boss Tones.

I got Van Weezer. It is Weezer with just a taste of Van Halen sometimes. I don’t think it will change any non-fans into fans but I’m enjoying it!

It was okay, but not rushing out to buy more Weezer stuff.

I get that. They’re hit or miss with me.
