Last year flew by and now here we are in 2023 and already at our first month purchases wrap-up. It was a good start to the year if I do say so myself. I started a new collection, found some stuff for other collections I have, treated myself to an album I’ve been wanting for years and even found a Jeff Scott Soto CD that I didn’t even know existed. I would say that all makes for a solid month.
The month kicked off in full glory when 2nd & Charles kicked off the year with a buy 5 get 5 free sale on their CDs and so I pounced on it. Sadly, my memory sucks and one is one I already had, see if you can guess which one because it was in my November purchases as well.

If that wasn’t enough, later in the month I went by Repo Records here in Charlotte and found a handful of picture sleeve 45’s. I love the picture sleeves and so I bought about 9 this time around. Some great stuff to add to the collection…

And about two months ago, I made the decision I was going to get CDs for a bunch of European bands that were never big here in the states for some reason. I have picked up a couple of The Poodles and I got a new one this month as well as started my Inglorious collection. I am going to start buying CDs for Wig Wam, Eclipse, and H.E.A.T. as well. This will take some time, but should be fun.

Then there is the Rock Candy collection I’ve somehow started without realizing I started it. I grabbed one of my favorite 80’s albums mainly for the bonus tracks as I do have the album already on vinyl…but I did say it is one of my favorites. It is the obscure little band called Diving for Pearls…

I recorded a couple podcasts this month. One for Tim’s Vinyl Confessions on the two new Aldo Nova E.P.’s. and the other was my first time on Grant’s Rock Warehaus where we talked all things Aldo Nova. So, I had bought the 2 brand new E.P.’s and realized I didn’t have the debut on CD so I got it…

…and then I decided I really wanted the album ‘Blood on the Bricks’ by Aldo on vinyl. It is a hard one to find and it can be pricey. I lucked out and got a good deal so I jumped on it and here it is…

I was at another local record store in Charlotte called Noble Records and I found an album on my Holy Grail list…sort of. I have always wanted the Coverdale Page album on vinyl, but it is so scarce and so expensive I don’t think I’ll ever own it. Well, I found a counterfeit and since my buddy SuperDekes bought a copy and said it was great, I found one and bought it. Yes, it isn’t an official version, but who cares at this point…

And then one last stop this month was at a place called the Brass Grasshopper and inside is Hardy Boys Records. I didn’t see much at all but I found a $3 bootleg for the band Bush. I like them well enough so I bought it…

There was one New album I bought this week, but it actually came out a few months back. The vinyl, however, just came out this month. It is for the band Collective Soul and I am not sure what is going on with Mr. Roland, but he has turned in to one crazy, eccentric dude…

And then after buying the Creatures of the Night Deluxe Box Set and the Vinyl, I realized I didn’t buy the Deluxe Vinyl for Destroyer. So, I did. This is the one with the colored vinyl and it the 2nd LP of demos. Really cool stuff…

And the very last thing is the bootleg CD of Jeff Scott Soto…and it is autographed. There is a little story that goes with it, but I will save it for the review. This is a bunch of demos he did with L.A. Rock and Vinnie Vincent…yes that Vinnie…

And there you have it…all the purchases for January 2023. I think I did pretty good this month…

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back here real soon.
Diving for Pearls!! That vinyl was my favorite as well! And u got BJ single!
I like Inglorious as well but haven’t gotten around to getting the last few of their releases.
So I don’t have the one u got….yet!
All in all, good stuff. Looking forward to seeing future reviews.

You had a nice haul as well. I already have 3 things for February as they came in after I did the post. Glad to see there is someone else out there that likes (and knows who they are) Diving for Pearls. That debut album is one of my favorite albums ever. Really grabbed me a the time and still love it today.

Great to see COV/PAGE in there. Kinda cool you start a collection without knowing you’re starting a collection in regards to the Rock Candy stuff.
Awesome scores Johnny!

I’ll admit to not knowing most of that stuff but I enjoy reading about it nonetheless. Looks like you’re having fun!

Where I live, I have to go to Toronto for a score like this. I do however have 7 Japanese imports incoming.

Nice haul, John! January was very good to you. I don’t know why, but on the Alice Cooper single disc, it looks like he smelt a bad fart and he’s trying to hide it!

Now I have to go look at that Alice cover again.

Went to a Record Fair today and got guitar crazy.
I found 2 Steve Salas Colorcode cds and Earl Slick In Your Face. Got 2 live albums as well, Europe: Live! At Shepherd’s Bush and Sepultura: Live in Sao Paulo.
Glad I went!
