October 2023 Purchases – Vinyl & CD’s and more

We have a lot of treats for you today. No tricks. I promise. It is all good stuff. October was another good month for the 2 Loud 2 Old Music Collection. We have box sets, CDs, Vinyl, Cassettes, books and I would say that is a good month. The month started off with a couple items that were supposed to arrive in September, but sadly did not come until after I had written the September Purchases post. It also ended with a new a new band from this album as well. A perfect booked. So, we have the two Night Ranger Rock Candy reissues and their new album that is a live album done with a Youth Orchestra. Great stuff…

Next up is a bunch of items I picked up when I went to visit a local store I hadn’t hit in a while. It is Repo Records. I dug through the CDs, the Cassettes and the Vinyl and found a lot of good things. First, I found another Kiss bootleg I didn’t have in my collection. That was an easy decisions…

And then I found some great 45’s from the 80’s with picture sleeves. I like picture sleeves. I picked up a Billy Idol, a Loverboy, a Billy Squire and a John Cougar Mellencamp single. All choice cuts…

If that wasn’t enough, I found 4 really great CDs as well. I picked up David Lee Roth’s 1998 album with John 5 called DLR Band. And it is awesome! Then I grabbed a great double single from Queensryche for ‘Silent Lucidity’. It wasn’t on Discogs as a single set, only individuals…so I’m guess this is a rarer version of it. And then two Motley Crue ones. One for the single Misunderstood and the other an E.P. called Quaternary….

And the last thing at Repo was a set of cassettes…(okay, one of these might have been from Noble but who cares)…I think you’ll recognize these…

Oh so much goodness. Then we hit up Noble Records during the month and I picked up all their Exclusive albums. I think this gives me about 12 or 13…I’ve lost count…

And I also found some albums from his Anniversary Sale which included a bunch of albums from Chris Whitton’s collection. Noble bought this collection from his father and brother had Chris had died back in the early 90’s. They had a hard time parting with the collection since it was a big part of his life and it helped them feel close to him now that he was gone. Noble put a sticker of Chris on each item from his collection and if you scan the barcode it will take you to YouTube where Noble tells the story. I felt I needed a piece of the collection…I wound up with two pieces. I will keep the stickers proudly displayed so his collection lives on.

During the month, there was a run on Box Sets. First was an Ace Frehley box set that housed 7 colored vinyl 45’s. I wrote a review on it so that is all I’ll say.

Then the Darkness released a 20th Anniversary Box Set for their debut “Permission to Land”. Man, has it been 20 years already. Time does fly…and this set is awesome…

And then there was Van Halen Collection II which is Sammy’s years on vinyl. Plus an extra LP with the bonus tracks and new tracks that were on the greatest hits collection all in one spot…It is all sweet…

The last vinyl I picked up as the first release on vinyl for Stone Temple Pilots greatest hits album called Thank You. I am a big STP fan, so had to have it…

Whitesnake also put out a quasi box set for the Purple Album called the Gold Edition and it has a bonus CD of remixes, live and David Coverdale’s Audition Songs for Deep Purple. Plus a DVD of videos and live performances. Plus the original album of course. Lots of good stuff here…

Lastly, is a book by Martin Popoff which is about Kiss at 50 years. I haven’t read it yet, but it looks great and I do love my Kiss books. I hope there is something in here I don’t already know about.

And that is it. I hope you enjoyed the walk through. Some of these there will be posts on and some maybe someday down the road. Until then, here it is all togther in one shot for you…

            1. Love that guy, and you know it!! He speaks with intelligence and passion…you know he loves the music. I give him all the credit for the last Whitesnake album being so awesome. Joel is the best thing to happen to that band in years.

              1. Oh yeah, I agree. He’s so passionate about music and he’s an insanely hard worker. Joel re-vamped both Whitesnake and Night Ranger. That’s why the albums he did with them are really good (or so I’ve heard).

  1. Shameless promotion: Tim and I did a video on some of the reissues in this post. Coming Saturday along with my review of one of them!

Nice month, John! I’m at the point where I have a nice enough tape deck to justify buying tapes again, and it is fun. The packaging brings me right back.

  2. Great scores John and you’re still the Champ. I gave it my best shot lol….Kev bought that Slade album as well when I was with him and Sarah. The Popoff is a good read as I skimmed it and there are a few interesting facts in there as with Martin he digs deep into it finding something that isn’t out there already. Good to see you out supporting you’re homeboy at Noble records as well!

  3. Nice haul! My Night Ranger reissues arrived on Friday. It’s the first time I’ve heard both albums, as my band experience revolved around a few live shows and a best of disc. You’re right, they do sound great.

I’m debating the Van Halen reissues. Is there anything else in the box besides the discs?

    Enjoy those albums.

  4. Great haul, John! That was really touching, about the family selling the brother’s record collection, and how it was difficult for them to part with. I can understand that for sure. I often feel like my collection is such a big part of who I am, that once I pass it’ll be hard for my loved ones to not associate it with me. The whole sticker thing is cool as well. Since I can’t scan it myself, could you shoot me a link to the video? I would love to hear their story!

The Crüe single and EP are really cool! I’m curious about the DLR Band after reading Kevin’s (Canadian Grooves) review last week. Cool to see some good ol’ CANCON here with Loverboy and Aldo Nova. Now you need to get on the Kim Mitchell / Max Webster train, John 😉

    1. It is out of print. I couldn’t believe I found it and for only $2.50!! It was seeing your Slade in the video that made me think of them and that weekend I was out and there it was, so I bought it thanks to you.

  5. Phew nice.
That Quarternary EP from the Crue was seen as a rare item once.
Looking forward to the Ace unboxing.

On a separate note I saw footage of Joe Elliot in a record shop in Japan stockpiling alot of Def Lep bootlegs and Bowie albums. I found it interesting and I would be thinking he would be gearing up special live releases.
