Friday New Releases – May 13, 2022

Oh my!! It’s Friday the 13th! Nothing good happens on Friday the 13th…well…except for new releases and we have about 40 for you this week. I have to say though, for me, there isn’t much I’m really interested in. Three is one I’ll try just because of the people in it, but expectations are a little low. My choice is highlighted in Blue. Take a look through and see what you want to hear this week and let us know what they are (if there are more than one) otherwise just tell us which one. And let us know what we may have missed that came out and is not on the list. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

  • 81RRhAnC72L._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  Skills – Different Worlds – (Frontiers Records): The band is one of this Frontiers band that they piece together some great musicians. This was cool for awhile, but now it is getting old. However, this one still intrigues me for one member, guitarists Brad Gillis from Night Ranger. The rest of the band is Renan Zonta, vocalist for the Brazilian rock band Electric Mob, Billy Sheehan from Mr. Big & The Winery Dogs and David Huff from David and the Giants. We will see how it it…

And the rest of the field is as follows…

  • Kendrick Lamar – Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers – (Top Dawg Entertainment / Aftermath / Interscope Records)
  • 71qEtbeYlPL._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  The Chainsmokers – So Far So Good – (Disruptor Records / Columbia)

Maroon 5 – Red Pill Blues – Album Review

Maroon 5 started off their career as a Pop/Rock/Funk band back in the very early 2000s and brought us the masterpiece debut album ‘Songs About Jane’.  15 year later the band is still going strong with the newest album called ‘Red Pill Blues’.  The resemblance between these two albums is relatively zero.  The Rock/Funk part of the band is non-existent and all you have is glorified POP!

Don’t get me wrong, there is some pop music I like.  However, there is something about pop music that irritates me and that is most songs on pop radio seem to think the actually have to be “featuring” a hip-hop artist or at least another artist.  Singers and bands today don’t seem to be able to do a song that is strictly their own.

Maroon 5 now believes in that theory whole-heartedly.  As a result, they have six songs, that is right 6!!!, on their new album that feature another artist.  They are as follows:

  1. “What Lovers Do (Feat. SZA)
  2. “Help Me Out (duet with Julia Michaels)”
  3. “Who I Am (Feat. Lunchmoney Lewis)”
  4. “Whiskey (Feat. A$AP Rocky)”
  5. ‘Don’t Wanna Know (Feat. Kendrick Lamar – yeah for like 10 seconds)”
  6. “Cold (Feat. Future)”

Maroon 5 – “Don’t Wanna Know” – New Song & New Video

Maroon 5 dropped a new song and video today.  The song is “Don’t Wanna Know” and features Kendrick Lamar for just around 18 seconds.  Sadly, he isn’t in the video.  No announcement of a new album, but hopefully soon.

The song is pretty good and is growing on me.  The video is massively disturbing.  The band is dressed up as Pokemon characters and they are being chased all around by idiots with cellphones trying to capture them.  Obviously poking fun at Pokemon Go.  The video features Sarah Silverman and Vince Vaughn (probably because it was directed by the director the “Wedding Crashers” , David Dobkin.

With the video, I think they are also poking fun at how they probably feel with the media and crazed fans.  They are always dodging the paparazzi and getting bothered by fans wanting a picture or an autograph.  Maybe I am putting too much thought into it.

Alright, here is the video.  Give it a view just to see the strangeness that is going on.  Enjoy!
