How are we already in June. This is crazy. Where does the time go? Thankfully, however, we have a bunch of new releases to help us enjoy the flying time ever more. There are bunch of releases this week covering many different genres so there should a little something for everyone. There are a bunch I want to hear, but nothing I am running out and buying because all my money is going in to next week’s new releases. As my close friend Barney says, “It will be LEGENDARY!!!” My choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what you want to hear and what I may have missed so everyone can know. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and I hope you have an amazing weekend!
Crowded House – Dreamers Are Waiting – (Lester Records / BMG): The boys are back. Neil Finn and gang are back with their first album in 11 years. I guess Neil’s short sting with Fleetwood Mac got his creative juices flowing. They have already been playing to huge sold out shows in New Zealand so hopefully sometime over the next year, they will make to the States. I didn’t Dream it Was Over and I’m glad it really isn’t…yes that was cheesy.
Billy F. Gibbons – Hardware – (Concord Records): The ZZ Top frontman is back with another solo album. He has been pumping them out and I for one am glad he is. As much as new Top music would be great, this is the next best thing. It is exactly what you would expect from Billy. And Matt Sorum on drums
Paul Gilbert – Werewolves of Portland – (Mascot Label Group / Players Club): The Mr. Big guitar player brings his 16th studio album and more great music. If you are a fan, you know what you are getting. If you aren’t, well, I’m not going to tell you, you need to hear it for yourself. It is instrumental and Paul plays all the instruments himself. The cool thing is there is a lyric sheet included as he rights lyrics to get the melodies, but the songs are instrumental. So you can sing along and be the lead singer yourself. Enjoy…
James – All the Colours of You – (Nothing But Love Music): Speaking of 16th Studio album, James is also on their’s. Crazy. This Indie Pop band from Manchester England is back after 3 years and they have earned the respect for a listen and will get just that.
And we have all the rest…go forth and listen!!
Liz Phair – Soberish – (Chrysalis Records)
Rise Against – Nowhere Generation – (Loma Vista Records)
Atreyu – Baptize – (Search And Destroy / Universal)
Flotsam & Jetsam – Blood in the Water – (AFM Records / Soul Food)
Anchors & Heats – Guns Against Liberty – (Redfield Records)
Dead Heat – World at War – (Triple B Records)
Van Canto – To The Power of Eight – (Napalm Records)
Tim Buckley – Bear’s Sonic Journals: Merry-Go-Round At the Carousel – (Owsely Stanley Foundation) – No Video
Lou Gramm – Questions & Answers: Atlantic Anthology 1987-1989 – (HNE)
Goose – Shenanigans Nite Club – (Goose / No Coincidence Records)
Satsang – All. Right. Now – (SideOneDummy Records)

Lindsey Lane – Nomadic Lover – (Lindsey Lane) – Sorry: no video available.
Lloyd Banks – The Course of the Inevitable – (Money by Any Means LLC)
Peter Rosenberg – Real Late – (Real Late Records)
Quinn Sullivan – Wide Awake – (Mascot Label Group)
Nights Beats – Outlaw R&B – (Night Beats / Fuzz Club)

Me too…I might need to actually hear this one.

The new Crowded House sounded pretty folksy and mellow, but that’s not necessarily a bad direction for Finn at this point.

I’m good with mellow especially from Finn.

Nothing for me this week, but again, I appreciate you for doing these posts, in case I do miss something I like!

Next week has some great stuff including the Def Leppard Volume 3 Box Set

Oh the volume 3 box set, I’m guessing you’re going to get that?
I already had ‘X’ since last year, but I held off from buying ‘Songs from the Sparkle Lounge’ for so long because I had a feeling that album would be on the next box set, but I grew impatient and bought ‘Songs from the Sparkle Lounge’ in April, so I kind of don’t feel the need to get it anymore (unless the bonus tracks are good) because besides ‘X,’ I don’t care for the later period of Def Leppard, but ‘Songs from the Sparkle Lounge’ is growing on me.

Oh yes…ordered and set to come soon! I don’t have any of these albums on vinyl and the rare stuff is what I am really after. It is 9 LPs.

I’ll be expecting a review from you of that set! I’m curious about what the last box set is going to be like since they only have one studio album left to cover.
Also, this is out of topic, but do the albums on your Queen 40 box sets come with the lyrics? I’m the type of person that loves to read the lyrics while listening to the music.

I am curious as well. Box 3 seems focused on cover songs since “Yeah!” is on it for the other albums so with mostly live albums since the final studio album, will it be all Live albums??
And yes, the Queen set comes with lyrics. each disc is exactly like the normal CD cases and inserts that were released individually unlike the Priest box set. No album inserts.

Possibly! Unless they recorded other songs that weren’t released on that self-titled album, maybe some b-sides. My concern is that if they include a live release on the last box set, how will it be different from their other live releases? Since most of them include the same setlist, with the exception of their Vegas shows.
Oh thank goodness! I need the lyrics, I hate those LP-like slipcases because they look cheap and I feel like the jewel cases provide more protection (that’s why I’m hesitant on buying box sets). I was considering the Priest one too, but it’s a bit disappointing that there aren’t any booklets and it just has slip cases.
Which Queen albums have you liked so far (well after ‘The Game’ since that’s the last one you posted)? My plan is to get the first box set, skip the second one (buy ‘News of the World’ and ‘Jazz,’ since I bought ‘The Game’ the same day of recent Mike’s live stream), and buy the third one.

Some good stuff today – Gibbons, Gilbert, Wolf Alice and Night Beats are on my list. The Gibbons stuff I’ve heard so far is really great. Both Sorum and Hanks were backing him on tour a couple of years ago, so it’s good to see them on the album.

I’m excited about the Gibbons one. If we ain’t gettin’ ZZ Top, this works just as well.

I will be checking out the Gibbons one at some point. Next Friday is going to be good….

Yes, next Friday will be great except it doesn’t look like anything will show up on Friday. Kiss shipping date moved to June 29th, Mammoth June 15, and who knows when the Lep will come.

Is the Kiss vinyl been pushed back and not the CD? I see Amazon still has the CD for the 11th but no sign of the vinyl lol

I think the LP. I swear if I see it at a record store, I am buying and cancelling Amazon

Listened to Atreyu’s Baptize this morning and was honestly disappointed. Checking out Paul Gilbert and Rise Against’s now!

Too bad. Hopefully Rise Against and Gilbert will be better.

No “musts” for me this week I’m afraid. I’d check out Crowded House and Billy Gibbons though.

Not an exciting week and haven’t been enjoying them. Listening to Ram It Down now and it ain’t much better.

Ah yes, Ram it Down. I do hope we get to discuss that semi-turd. Three excellent songs (Hard as Iron, Blood Red Skies, and Ram It Down) and a lot of so-so (Heavy Metal, Love it to Death, Love Zone) and some craaaaaaap (Monsters of Rock).

Crowded House OMG. Yes. And Red Fang, to keep my collection complete. Also Hard Nips is a great band name.

The reason the band Hard Nips is on the list is because of their name. I thought it was awesome

I got the Billy Gibbons. It is like some laid-back ZZ. Another one I’ll get to reviewing once the Hip is done.

I agree, very laid back. I expected a little more pop, but still good.

You’re right. There is not much commercial on it. Kind of like a comp of album tracks.
