Friday New Releases – April 12, 2024

Welcome to another Friday New Releases. This week we might not have a ton of releases but there are some good ones I am wanting to hear. First for me this week is Will Hoge’s new album ‘Tenderhearted Boys’. I am a huge fan of this talented singer/songwriter. One of my favorites. I can’t wait to hear what is in store this time around. Next is is the greatest hits compilation from Linkin Park with 20 of their biggest hits. Then, I want to check out the new Mark Knopfler and the new Blue Oyster Cult. You country fans might be excited by Ernest and maybe Tyler Hubbard. Take a look through the list and let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Friday New Releases – June 9, 2023

Happy Friday! I am so excited as this is the one week I’ve really been waiting for most of the year (or at least since the albums were announced). There are two albums that for me are the ones I’ve look forward to most of all. Paul Laine’s new album his Danger Danger bandmates and that is The Defiants’ new album ‘Drive’. The bands third studio album and have high hopes. The other album I’m excited by is the new Extreme album, simply titled Six. It has been way too long since their last one. Can’t wait to hear Nuno shred!! There are also a bunch of reissues this week and on some big albums from Niall Horan, Janelle Monae, Jason Isbell and so many more…and yes Frontiers Records has a bunch as is very common. Matt Nathanson – “Laid” – CD Promotional Single for ‘American Pie: The Wedding’

If you remember the ‘American Pie’ films, you know how raunchy they were and a song that was linked to the film as sort of a theme song was the song “Laid” by the band James. The song was written by Tim Booth, Larry Gott and Jim Glennie, however, never appeared in the movies only in the first two films movie trailers. It wasn’t until the 2003 film, ‘American Pie: The Wedding’, that it appeared, but it wasn’t the James version of the song. Instead it was a cover by Matt Nathanson. I guess James wanted too much money for it and the film could only afford a cover version of that. And why not Matt as he has the chops to do a faithful rendition of the song.

The song is just as raunchy as the movies, but Matt stays true to the James version and really delivers a stellar performance. This is probably the first time I ever heard anything by Matt and now 20 years later, I am still collecting his stuff and a massive fan. And in my hunts for Matt Nathanson product, I found a Promo CD from Europe for the song and only that song. My copy was bought from Austria thanks to Discogs. There is another version out there that is the US Promo and it has the Soundtrack album cover as the cover of the Promo (and yes, I am on the hunt for it and will get it soon and when I do, I’ll update this post to show it). You can get the song on the ‘American Pie: The Wedding’ Soundtrack, but I don’t think it is on any studio album from Matt so you either get the promo or the movie soundtrack.

Friday New Releases – June 4, 2021

How are we already in June. This is crazy. Where does the time go? Thankfully, however, we have a bunch of new releases to help us enjoy the flying time ever more. There are bunch of releases this week covering many different genres so there should a little something for everyone. There are a bunch I want to hear, but nothing I am running out and buying because all my money is going in to next week’s new releases. As my close friend Barney says, “It will be LEGENDARY!!!” My choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what you want to hear and what I may have missed so everyone can know.   • 81HVAbl9YeL._SS500_  Crowded House – Dreamers Are Waiting – (Lester Records / BMG): The boys are back. Neil Finn and gang are back with their first album in 11 years. I guess Neil’s short sting with Fleetwood Mac got his creative juices flowing. They have already been playing to huge sold out shows in New Zealand so hopefully sometime over the next year, they will make to the States. I didn’t Dream it Was Over and I’m glad it really isn’t…yes that was cheesy.
  • 81r0q6+WRBL._SX522_  Billy F. Gibbons – Hardware – (Concord Records): The ZZ Top frontman is back with another solo album. He has been pumping them out and I for one am glad he is. As much as new Top music would be great, this is the next best thing. It is exactly what you would expect from Billy. And Matt Sorum on drums

Friday New Releases – August 3rd

We are not into August. Summer is in full swing, but releases are not.  Only a handful this week and nothing I am overly excited about, however, there a couple I will listen to as I listen to everything they put out…they will be highlighted in Blue (as usual).   • 518UpIs4YxL._AC_US320_QL65_  James – Living in Extraordinary Times – (BMG):  James has been around since 1982 and have been solid all along so I will give it a listen for that reason.  I am not ready to run out and buy anything, but a good stream will suffice nicely.

  • 51XTXkyOEeL._SS500  Phil Wickham – Living Hope – (Phil Wickham):  This Christian singer has one heckuva voice and always has some standout tracks on his releases so of course this one will be played.  Always happy to fly his flag when he puts something out and this will be no different.  Give him a try!!
