Bon Jovi – ‘100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t Be Wrong’ (2004) – (Part 1 of 6) – Box Set Review (The Bon Jovi Collection Series)

We are in the year 2004 and Bon Jovi has now been around for 20 Years at this point. To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, they released a really cool box set of mostly unreleased tunes and a lot of little extras. The Box Set is a collection of 50 songs spread over 4 CDs, 38 of which had never been released. The others were songs from soundtracks, remixes and/or B-Sides. This was a band dumping everything sitting by the wayside in to one set and I applaud them for that. Us diehard fans love this kind of stuff. And if that wasn’t enough, if you have the Japanese Edition, which i do, you get another CD of B-Sides and Japanese Bonus Tracks. That is another 10 songs.

The Box Set is titled ‘100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t Be Wrong’ which is a play on the 1959 compilation of Elvis Presley’s album ‘50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong’ and you will see they copied the cover pretty well…

This is a lot of music to absorb and we won’t be absorbing it here. Nope. I’m going to go through each and every CD, track by track over 5 more posts. That is why this is Part 1 of 6. Here we are going to talk about what is included in the set. And as I mentioned, I have the Japanese Edition of the box set which comes with a lot of different things. Let’s take a look and see what we get…

The back of the tri-fold box set shows the track listing for every CD as well as the DVD track list. But it doesn’t say everything. The sticker on the front also broke it out…and the Japanese set included something similar…

It mentions a 64 page booklet which includes some commentary from the bands, some messages from the fans as well as a very detailed summary of every track on the set. The copy I have has never been opened as there is no crease in the book. It is stiff and in mint condition. I’m not sure it will stay that way when I start going through the songs, but I will do my best to not crease it.

There was another booklet in there as well for the Japanese Edition. It is mostly in Japanese and there are no pictures. It is a basic white with black lettering throughout. I can’t read it, but maybe you can. Here is the front and back cover which shows the same info except one side is both English and Japanese and the other is basically all in Japanese…well almost. Inside it contains some fanmail from fans I guess…but I can’t read them as well as song information.

The Japanese Edition also had another little piece of paper in Japanese that I am not sure what it is but I do see the title of the box set…I think it might be the track list of the bonus disc.

The Japanese Edition also has postcards of each band member and a band postcard. But we don’t get just one set, there are 2 of each. Not sure if that is the way it is for all sets, but guess it probably is.

Lastly, the music. The CD’s & the DVD are housed in a tri-fold, well constructed box and each are in their own CD case style housing. The copy I have is still so stiff and pristine condition. I’m so nervous every time I open it as I don’t want to damage anything. I like how the keep the Elvis theme and Vegas with each CD numbered using Dice.

The extra disc is housed in a cardboard album sleeve and comes separate although there is a spot for it in the tri-fold as you can see from above. They could’ve added another slot there, but this was probably cheaper.

And here is a snapshot of all that you get…

My only complaint for the set would be that there is no where to house the extras that come with it. They are basically loose in the folded set and could easily fall out so you do have to store it all carefully. Other than that, I think this is a cool set and I’m glad I went with the Japanese Box Set which honestly, wasn’t much more and you can still get these fairly cheap in my opinion. My Overall Score on the Packaging is a 4.0 out of 5.0 Stars getting the ding mostly for the extras having no where to be stored. The extras and the CDs are all 5.0 out of 5.0, but they should’ve thought more on it.

Now, it is time to go through the music. See you next week as we dive in to Disc 1.

  1. Glad you cracked the seal on this box set John. I obviously saw this advertised and I think Tbone may have bought this for his wife as she’s a huge Jovi fan. Look forward to reading this as you go along…

  2. While my copy isn’t from Japan, it’s still in great shape. I opened the package to grab the discs and read the liner notes. Once I finished doing that, the package went away in a bin so I wouldn’t knock it around.

Thanks for the Elvis reference. I wasn’t aware they used his box as a point of comparison.

  3. I can’t wait to read the rest of your posts covering this box set, especially with this year being Bon Jovi’s 40th anniversary! I only considered buying this set because of an outtake from Richie’s ‘Stranger in This Town’ album, “If I Can’t Have Your Love.” Other than that, I’ll have to give it more thought before searching for this box set on Ebay or something.

      1. That’s good to know! I mean, it is a cool box set. I’ll definitely consider it. When the new album comes out, by the way, are you planning to review it for the Bon Jovi series?

  4. Bet there’s tons of interviews out there now with the new single coming out. This is the one I caught. Seen it? Audacy Check In: Jon Bon Jovi on Utube. (Cannot post a link)

Sounds like all we can hope for is maybe one off gigs with Richie, but not a full tour…. If there even will be a tour at all…

Really looking forward to that upcoming documentary.
