Kiss – Special Kiss Album For Their Summer Tour (1976) – Bonus Edition (The Kiss Review Series)

Welcome back to the Kiss Review Series.  Today we are doing another bonus edition.  As I am going through the band’s releases, I am going to throw in different items from my collection that aren’t part of the band’s normal album releases.  Singles, promos or whatever I can come up with.

Since we just talked ‘Destroyer’ in the last album review, these last two posts are specifically related to that album.  The first was the 45 Single of the song “Flaming Youth”.  This one is a Special Promo promoting their Tour in support of ‘Destroyer’. Now, I am cheating here again as I wrote a review on this years ago, so I am redoing it here so it is now a part of the Kiss Review Series.  I hope you like it.

In the further adventures of my box full of vinyl, there was yet another Kiss collectible included that I cherish deeply.  It was a 33 1/3 Vinyl Single in support of their tour for the 1976 Destroyer Tour.  I believe the album was released to radio stations for promo and not available for resale.  I actually know it was not available for resale because it says it on the Label of the album.

The album jacket actually says “Not For Resale”, but has been removed from my cover…very strange. The person that removed it was very careful and didn’t cut fully through the front cover…see below.

Whitesnake – The Albums Ranked Worst to First

Starting back on August 1st, 2019, we started the David Coverdale Series of reviews.  It was a long process and after 36 reviews, we are capping off the series with not one, but two album rankings.  The first one, this one, is going to cover only the Whitesnake albums.  The second one, next week, will cover ALL albums that David Coverdale has done.  The list are only studio albums.  No E.P.’s, no live albums and no greatest hits.

Whitesnake started back in 1978 and was a result of David going solo after his stint in Deep Purple and he realized he enjoyed the band aspect and Whitesnake was born after 2 solo albums.  The name was taken from the title of David’s first solo album and now David is the only original member.  Hell, it was really his band anyway.  One of the few bands it doesn’t matter who is in it as long as David is singing.  If you want to read the reviews of each album, check out the list at the bottom of the post and click away and go explore each album in more depth.  Thanks

The really cool thing I discovered when I went back to compile my list is that no album saw a score of less than a 3.0 out of 5.0 Stars.  How many bands can say that.  Probably not a lot.  Enough chit chat, now let’s get started…

THE WORST – ‘THE PURPLE ALBUM” (2015):

Kiss – “Flaming Youth” – The 45 Single (1976) – Bonus Edition (The Kiss Review Series)

Welcome back to the Kiss Review Series.  Today we are doing a little bonus edition.  As I am going through the band’s releases, I am going to throw in different items from my collection that aren’t part of the band’s normal album releases.  Singles, promos or whatever I can come up with.

Since we just talked ‘Destroyer’ in the last review, these next two posts are specifically related to that album.  The first is this 45 Single of the song “Flaming Youth”.  Now, I am cheating here as I wrote a review on this years ago, so I am re-doing it here so it is now a part of the Kiss Review Series.  I hope you like it.

I had this big box of vinyl that I found in my attic that started my new vinyl obsession about 4 years ago.  This is another 45″ Single in that big box of vinyl and it is from the Kiss album ‘Destroyer’.  The song was “Flaming Youth” and it was only a promotional single and not intended for resale.  How we ended up with it or where we got it, I am not sure.

The B-Side of the single is also “Flaming Youth” which I find interesting because the true B-Side of the Single released for the album was “God of Thunder”.  Both sides of the disc say Side A. Maybe I have a nice collectors piece…if so, I wish it was in better shape.

YOU PICKED IT! – Max Webster – ‘Universal Juveniles’ – Album Review

Alright…You Picked It! And here it is. The one you picked was Max Webster – ‘Universal Juveniles’.  The votes were as follows:

  1. Max Webster – 5 votes
  2. Vandenberg was close behind with 4 votes
  3. Robert Palmer – 3 votes
  4. TLC – 2 votes
  5. David Lee Roth had 2 sort of votes. They both thought it sucked ass and it would be great for me to write a bad review, but they both preferred Max.

Thanks to all for participating.  The August choices will be up on Saturday!

MAX WEBSTER – ‘UNIVERSAL JUVENILES’

I obtained this record when my brother-in-law, Jimmy, let me have his collection as it was just sitting in storage.  The prize of that collection was definitely all the Rush albums.  This album was also in there and I will be honest with you, I had no idea who Max Webster was.  Well, first it isn’t a person, it is a band name with no one named Max Webster in the band. Yeah, I had no idea.

My Sunday Song – “Trouble is Your Middle Name” by Whitesnake

For My Sunday Song #204, we are going after one of Whitesnake’s newest songs and hits of the ‘Flesh & Blood’ album called “Trouble Is Your Middle Name”.  The song was the second single off the album and when I heard it, it was the first time in years I had been excited about a Whitesnake song or album.

The song is about a girl.  What Whitesnake song isn’t in some way, shape or form. This is about being drawn in to a relationship where you know you shouldn’t, but you so want to despite all the bad that goes with it.  The attraction and desire are too much to not give it a try, yet since the girl is so much trouble, you know it isn’t going to end well.  And it doesn’t.  Not much to it really, but man the song just grabs you.

It grabs you because the music is some of the best the band has done in years.  David wrote this one with the great Joel Hoekstra who played with Night Ranger and he plays with Cher and TSO as well.  It is great to see David writing with him and Joel brings so much to the band.  The song opens with blast of sirens then David singing a verse and the song explodes to life.  The drum sound on here is so powerful and with Tommy Aldridge back on the kit, you get some of the best drum sounds you could want.

Friday New Releases – July 10, 2020

Things are starting to heat up and I’m not just talking about the temperature.  The rock and metal are in abundance this week and then Rufus classes things up as well.  I hope there is something for you this week.  For me, there is nothing I am running out and buying just yet, but a lot I want to hear before I decide on parting with my cash.  My choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what interests you and what I might’ve missed as I do miss some every week.

  • 81IpEyc7GdL._SX522_  Tokyo Motor Fist – Lions – (Frontiers Records):  The band’s second album and a must have for fans of Danger Danger as Ted Poley is the singer and Trixter as Steve Brown is on guitar.  The rhythm section is no slouch either with Greg Smith and Chuck Burgi.  I feel I didn’t spend enough time with the last one but I want to make up with that on this one.  Also, great album cover!!

  • 713ghLscsVL._AC_UY436_QL65_  Enuff Z’nuff – Brainwashed Generation – (Frontiers Records):  Another 80’s band still going strong.  For that, I am interested in hearing this one just to hear what they have to say so many years later.

Kiss – ‘Destroyer’ (1976) – Album Review (The Kiss Review Series)

With the success of ‘Alive!’, Kiss was saved and in turn, so was their record label Casablanca.  With that new success, the band signed a brand new contract with Casablanca after the band’s manager had threatened to walk.  This time though, Kiss was only given a two album deal which really isn’t a very long contract in those times and showed that maybe the label didn’t have much faith the band would have continued success.

While the band was touring the album ‘Alive!’, they started rehearsing for the new album.  Their success was able to land them a high-end producer in the likes of Bob Ezrin.  His success with Alice Cooper had garnered him some notoriety and was going to take Kiss in a whole new direction. Thankfully, the band was still in tact with Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons.

Whitesnake – ‘The Rock Album’ – Album Review (The David Coverdale Series)

In the last few years, David Coverdale has been quite busy rehashing old material, but in a good way.  He has brought us deluxe box sets for albums such as ‘Slide It In’, ‘1987’, ‘Slip of the Tongue’ and even ‘Unzipped’ the all acoustic box set.  And next year in 2021, we will get ‘Restless Heart’.  But for now, he is rehashing old material yet again.

This time it is a series called ‘Red, White & Blue’ Trilogy.  The Rock Album (White) is up first and then we will get The Love Album (Red) in October and I believe The Blues Album (Blue, duh) in February 2021 (Tentative dates right now).  Each album is really a glorified greatest hits albums each with its own them and the titles give you those themes quite nicely.

The big difference on these albums is more than just a remastering.  The songs have been tinkered with and given a little touch-up with some re-mixing and even a little touch-up on arrangements and other little surprises.  The songs aren’t completely re-imagined, thankfully it is no Bon Jovi “This Left Feels Right”.  The songs are still very much recognizable, just enhanced ever so slightly. “My Appetite for Destruction: Sex, and Drugs, and Guns N’ Roses” by Stephen Adler with Lawrence J. Spagnola – Book Review

Wow, I think the title really sums up this book.  Steven Adler’s biography details one of the most destructive paths of any rock star out there.  The many overdoses, heart attacks, strokes, it is amazing this many is still alive let alone still able to talk or ever play.  Wait, lets not forget the suicide attempts and the times he spent as a quest of the penitentiary system.  I’m exhausted just thinking about what he went through.

This biography popped up on Amazon for the Kindle at the amazing price of $0. And I will say it was worth more than that price.  I really did enjoy reading his story even though it is the same story as a lot of rock stars except maybe more destructive and he actually survives.  It is told as if Steven is sitting there with you and talking to you and it is a simple, fast-paced and easy read which helps make it a little more enjoyable.

Charlie Daniels passes away at 83 – RIP

Country music icon, Charlie Daniels, has passed away at 83 years young from a stroke.  Charlie Daniels was a member of the Charlie Daniels Band (obviously) as well as a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Since I am from Georgia, I will tell you that Charlie Daniels was basically taught in school…not really, but everyone knew who he was.  He was the man that made fiddle playing pretty damn cool with the song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.  If country music can rock out, this is the song that does it.

I believe he had at least 32 studio albums and numerous compilations.  He was one of the cool guys in country and has influenced so many artists over the years.  He left us with a ton of music and he will be remembered for many more years to come.  Rest in Peace Charlie!!  Play that music up in Heaven since the Devil never got your soul!!
