There is a lot of Rock albums out today and I am super excited and hope I can get through them all. Frontiers Records normally does 4 albums every month but today they bring us 5 albums that could keep me very busy. I have highlighted in Blue the ones I am most excited about. I am sure there is something this week for everyone.
- King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard – Flying Microtonal Banana – (Flightless Records): King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are back after only one year and now they are top on my list. I had never heard of them until I did a music challenge where I pick an album to listen to based solely on the band name, the album name or the album cover and I picked them. Read about it here. I found that album to be stellar and now they will be the first thing I listen to on this day out of all the new releases. They are a very unique band and probably an acquired taste and the song “Rattlesnake” makes me a little worried about this release, but I will still listen.
- Mike Tramp – Maybe Tomorrow – (Target Records): Mike Tramp keeps pumping out the solo music and he brings us a new one to enjoy. The former lead singer of 80’s rock band, White Lion, has carved path in his solo work that is nothing like his former band and that is okay. He never disappoints.
- Place Vendome – Close to the Sun (Frontiers Records Srl): Michael Kiske from Helloween and Dennis Ward of Pink Cream 69 have returned with their 4th album and I only thought it would end up being a 1 album project. Any chance I can hear Kiske sing, I will grab it and I am looking forward to this release. I hear that Kiske is getting back with Helloween and I hope that is true.
- Tokyo Motor Fist – Tokyo Motor Fist – (Frontiers Records Srl): Ted Poley from the band Danger Danger and Trixter guitarist Steve Brown have joined forces to bring us Tokyo Motor Fist. I enjoy both original bands so can’t wait to see what the 2 bring together. Ted’s voice sounds great in the new song so looking forward to hearing the rest.
- Asia – Symfonia: Live in Bulgaria 2013 – (Frontiers Records Srl): This one now deserves a listen with the recent passing of John Wetton. Well, Asia always deserves a listen regardless.
- Unruly Child – Can’t Go Home – (Frontiers Records Srl)
- Lionville – A World of Fools – (Frontiers Records Srl)
- George Harrison – The Vinyl Collection (LP Box Set) – (Capitol)
- Little Big Town – The Breaker – (Liberty Records)
- Suicide Silence – Suicide Silence – (Nuclear Blast)
- Six Feet Under – Torment – (Metal Blade Records)
- Roy Orbison – Black & White Night 30 – (Roys Boys LLC)
- Prince Royce – FIVE – (Sony Music)
- Aaron Watson – Vaquero – (Big Label Records)
- Old 97’s – Graveyard Whistling – (ATO Recordings)
- Celtic Thunder – Emmet Cahill’s Ireland – (Celtic Thunder Ltd)
Kiske is indeed back with Helloween, as is Kai Hansen!

The King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard interests me. Awfy prolific, eh? As always, I’ll give it a listen before deciding whether to buy.

I’m impressed Old 97s are still going (or have re-started at some point)!

I remember them from old CMJ comp CDs ages ago. Great sound, really memorable melodies. I can still recall Murder (Or A Heart Attack) and Time Bomb clearly sitting here now! Yeesh, I just looked it up, that was 1997 and 1999! Now there’s proof they’re memorable…
