Bon Jovi – ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Legends’ (2002) – Bootleg DVD (The Bon Jovi Collection Series)

I normally won’t buy a CD, DVD or anything that is strictly an interview disc. However, this was part of a set of Bon Jovi DVDs I bought and for the price of the 4 DVDs I wanted, I was okay having this thrown in. And this is a Bootleg DVD called ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Legends’ and as it says on the back cover, it is approximately 55 minutes of an interview with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora and those are both wrong. It is an interview with Jon Bon Jovi, but no Richie Sambora and it was only around 40 minutes. This isn’t some big history of the band, nothing like that. It is an interview of a snapshot in time of Jon Bon Jovi (not so much the band).

The DVD was released (unofficially) in 2002 and actually probably should have been reviewed right after everything related to the ‘New Jersey’ album is it took place shortly thereafter. The interview of Jon takes place in Montreal, Quebec around 1989 while Jon was working with Aldo Nova on his ‘Blood on the Bricks’ album which completely surprised me as I wasn’t expecting that. Especially when Aldo was also included in the interview with Jon and by Aldo was by himself. Interspersed between the interview questions, we were able to see some behind the scenes footage of the two working in the studio and getting to hear them working on some of the songs. We learn about when Aldo and Jon met and how Aldo also worked on Jon’s solo album from the ‘Young Guns 2’ movie. It was really cool and my favorite part of the whole interview.

Otherwise, it was strictly Jon and he talked about Richie and how when he first saw Richie play, he didn’t think he was very good…later he would be his favorite guitarists. Jon also laid to rest any speculation that Snake was ever a bandmember of Bon Jovi. He is the guitarist for Skid Row though. We also learn about a live album that Bon Jovi had put together from various shows, but the album was canned not to be released. On top of that, Jon talks about a behind the scenes video that they intended to release about the band’s ‘New Jersey’ Tour. I don’t think we ever saw that video either, well not until the ‘New Jersey’ Deluxe Edition was released in 2014.

Like during the Jon and Aldo portion of the interviews, the rest of the interview was interspersed with music video clips from all the Bon Jovi albums and from Jon’s solo album as well as behind the scenes footage of the band backstage or in various other situations. The rest of the interview talked about Jon and upcoming things for him or Bon Jovi as well as his record label Jambco Records. There were a lot of interesting things and some not so like in every interview. And I will admit, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but unless you are a really diehard, don’t waste your money on this one as you will watch it once and then be done.

And that is basically all there is with this one. There is no bonus material, no full music videos, no other band members and not much of anything of value unless you are an Aldo Nova fan, then you might think this is cool. There is not enough Aldo stuff out in the wild so I will take this to get to see that hair from the ‘Blood on the Bricks’ era. Worth it for that alone. I’m sorry I wasted time on this one, but it is part of the Bon Jovi Collection so I didn’t want to skip it. Thanks for hanging around and reading.
