Friday New Releases – June 28, 2024

Welcome back to Friday New Releases. We are already to the final week of June and although Summer is heating up, for me, the releases this week aren’t that hot. Nothing I have to have and actually, the Stryper ‘To Hell With the Amp’ is a reissue of what they released earlier this year exclusively on their site and it sold it fast (yes, I have a copy). And speaking of Michael Sweet, he also has Sunbomb which I’m not thrilled with, but will get eventually as I do with Michael’s stuff. A lot people might be in to Imagine Dragons and Camila Cabello as they have a new ones, not for me though. I might give The Fabulous Thunderbirds a listen as I didn’t realize they were still together. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. The Collection: Ep. 17 – In Depth: Queensryche’s ‘The Warning’ featuring Deke from The Distortion Den

This week my buddy Deke and I are on a our 2nd show in the series called “In Depth” and each episode we will pick an album and dive a little deeper in to it. We decided we would do a mini-Queensryche series and go from their E.P. up to ‘Promised Land’. In May, we went deep on the band’s E.P. simply titled ‘Queensryche’. This month, we are diving in to their debut full length album, ‘The Warning’. So, if you like a little Queensryche then come check it out as you get some fun facts and our thoughts on the sound, the songs and the band.

Deke is from the Distortion Den and from the blog world as well. Go Check him out at the links below…

Queensryche – “Eyes of a Stranger” – 12″ Single (Limited Edition Gatefold: Video Story Board)

When I hit up Noble Records for the big metal collection he was selling, it wasn’t all Def Leppard Singles I purchased. There was a Queensryche in there as well and it was a single from my favorite album ‘Operation: Mindcrime’. The single was for the song “Eyes of A Stranger” which was only moderately successful as it only reached #35 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. It was played on MTV, but for me it was played constantly as that album was on repeat for most of 1988 and has been played every year (multiple times a year) ever since.

For those that don’t know, ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ was a concept album and this song, “Eyes of a Stranger” was the final track on the album and a culmination of the whole album story. This 12″ Single is a Limited Edition Gatefold that contains a Video Story Board of the video shot for the song. The gatefold has pictures from the video and sums up the story as seen below.
