Friday New Releases – May 19, 2023

Welcome to Friday New Releases. We have just shy of 50 releases for you this week and I am sure you will find something you like. If you not you can have your money back…wait…you didn’t pay me any money…so oh well. One of my favorite bands has a new one this week. Def Leppard has a symphony release of their old hits so I’m not overly excited, but I’ll still buy it and listen to it. We also have a new Ghost E.P. of cover songs and it’s Ghost, so give me more!! There is Michael Sweet and Georgy Lynch with another Sweet & Lynch release and you have Dave Matthews Band, Neal Schon, Brandy Clark, The Used and so much more. Check them out and tell me what you want to hear. And if there is something we missed, tell us in the comments so everyone knows. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend!

The Struts – ‘Young & Dangerous’ – Album Review

The Struts come back with their second album, ‘Young & Dangerous’, and they are showing that rock is alive and well and can be one helluva a good time.  Their retro rock sound is both refreshing and feels entirely new.  Where Greta Van Fleet is getting picked on for sounding too much like Led Zeppelin, the Struts seem to be celebrated for sounding like bands from the past.  They sound like Queen, Aerosmith, Mott the Hoople and they crossover genres like Glam, Classic Rock and 80’s Pop and the Hair Bands.  They are the best parts all rolled up into one.

The band consists of Adam Slack on guitar, Jed Elliott on bass and Gethin Davis on drums and let me tell you they rip it up throughout this album.  Their ability to play around with genres and sounds is so convincing and outstanding.  But let’s admit it, it is lead singer Luke Spiller who truly shines with this band.  His cocky, confident and flamboyant singing and style just screams frontman.  Think Freddy Mercury and Steven Tyler and you have some idea of what I am talking about.

From the opening track “Body Talks” and the over-the-top, glam-filled “Primadonna Like Me” and you see that they can play and that your are in for a fun-filled, rocking good time.  The energy level is up to 10 and I can imagine that their live show takes it up to 11.

Friday New Releases – August 11th

Happy Friday!  My busy season is just a couple weeks from being over and I can’t wait.  I need some new music to get me through it, but it is a very weak week.  Well, all except for one and it is highlighted in Blue.  I hope there is something for you.  Luckily I still have a few from last week to get through in more detail.

  • 51CDRf5FgHL._AC_US218_  Will Hoge – Anchors – (Bordello Records):  One of my favorite singer/songwriters is Will Hoge and I love it when he puts out new music so I am super excited about this one.  He is the man!!  I think he is one of the best songwriters out there today and you must check him out.  He is a little bit of rock, a little bit of country and a little bit of folk.  He is a little bit of everything.  I believe this is his 10th studio release if you count his two independent releases from early on in his career.  He also has a bunch of E.P.s and Live albums.
