Bon Jovi – ‘The Albums Box Set’ (2017) – Album Review (The Bon Jovi Collection Series)

We are starting out things a little different. We aren’t starting with the earliest Bon Jovi piece in the collection. We are going to start the Bon Jovi Collection Series with the piece that convinced me to start the series. I picked this up around Christmas of last year and when I had all the album on vinyl, I thought, let’s do it. I took some time filling some holes in the collection and arranging what I wanted to review and now here we are. Currently this collection is going to take some time as there are around 60 pieces to review so this will take over a year to complete so I hope you are along for the ride. We will save the history of the band and how it got started to later. For now, let’s look at this box set in all its glory.

The Box Set was released on February 10, 2017 and was released on both vinyl and CD. I chose the Vinyl collection as I love to have their albums on vinyl. The set carries all studio albums up to that point which means it stops at ‘This House is Not For Sale’. But that isn’t all, it has both Jon Bon Jovi solo albums as well as an “Extra” LP with a bunch of their international B-Sides which is a nice treat. But that is it. There no extra posters, stickers, booklets or anything. Each album though is remastered on 180g LP and the 16 albums are spread over 24 LPs. At the time this was released, 7 of the albums had never been released on vinyl and then you have the “Extra” LP which is the first time this had ever been released. So, for the vinyl collector this was the easiest way to get everything. Now, they did release the albums individually, well the Bon Jovi ones were, I don’t think I ever saw the Jon Bon albums ever in the stores…I mean ever.

I was missing a few of the albums such as Lost Highway, The Circle, What About Now, Burning Bridges and Jon Bon Jovi’s Destination Anywhere as well as the “Extra” LP. I priced out what it would cost to get those individually and it was nuts as Burning Bridges and Destination Anywhere are extremely rare and pricey as hell. And don’t get me started on how the heck you’d get the “Extra” LP, so I bit the bullet and bought the whole set. And I’m quite happy with that. When I laid all the albums out on the floor after getting it, I decided right then and there, we are doing a Bon Jovi series.

The LP’s come in a giant, thick heavy-duty box. The LPs are housed in half-cut box that slides out of the bigger box. There is a simple logo on the front and stuck on the back, is a paper sleeve with all the info of the set on it. It is stuck on by sticky and not meant to stay it looks like. The one I bought was still on the back and in rough shape, but it works. There is some shelf wear on the box, however, all the vinyls were still factory sealed and unplayed which is why I went with this particular set. And let’s go through it…

THE 80’S:

The band’s first heyday…

THE 90’s:

A tough times for band’s from the 80’s, plus they were focused on solo albums both Richie & Jon…

THE 00’s:

The band’s 2nd heyday…a resurgence and their most prolific era…

THE 10’s:

With the exception of ‘Burning Bridges, I was checked out at this time…No Richie..no Bon Jovi!!

THE JON BON JOVI SOLO’s:

With Richie no longer in the band, so no Richie solo albums here…

THE BONUS LP:

This is one of the reasons I wanted this set…

And there you have it, The Bon Jovi Albums Box Set…Nothing fancy, really simple, but an easy place to get all their albums on vinyl or CD at one time (at least up to that point in time). Not going to rate this as we will let the individual reviews of the albums rate this for us, so get ready for a long journey as we go through my Bon Jovi Collection. Here is one last look of all the items in the box set and then next week, we start with Pre-Bon Jovi songs…

    1. In and Out of Love is my favorite Bon Jovi song, just because I sing it “In and Out of Your Butt.”

It’s a nice double entendre. It could be about exactly what you’re thinking, or a really hard bowel movement where the poop goes back in since you can’t push hard enough for it to drop.

  1. I would have bought this in CD. I have but one remastered album, the deluxe New Jersey.

Nice review. I think I got off Bon Jovi at the same time. Richie is an equally important member of the band.

      1. That’s ok. I still have all of the Bon Jovi CDs I need. Having the New Jersey deluxe edition and the 100,000,000 box set means I probably didn’t miss much in the way of Bsides.

Seeing as how Jon is putting out more compilations, I’m sure I’ll have another crack at some remasters or anniversary editions.

    1. I have an office that has a CD Cabinet and a large wall unit for the vinyl. I squeeze my desk and computer in there with my stereo. I almost out of room for my CDs, but my vinyl still has space. It is filling up rather quickly though.

  2. I hear you…I have stacks and stacks of cds on the floor. I gave up on arranging them in any alphabetical order years ago…
