The Collection: Ep. 72 – Van Halen on Vinyl

This week on The Collection, we are talking Van Halen. More specifically, Van Halen on vinyl. We will go through all my Van Halen Vinyl including studio albums, live albums, box sets, 7″ Singles and even Bootlegs. From the debut up to Balance as I don’t have Van Halen III or A Different Kind of Truth (and some live). But I have enough to talk about, so let’s do that. Find out who I prefer…David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. Find out what my favorite album is and which ones are not. A lot to get through, I hope you enjoy it.

So go check it out as it will be live tonight, September 8, 2025 at 7pm. Thanks for stopping by and please click “Like” and hit “Subscribe” as it helps out the site when you do.

The Collection: Ep. 65 – Robbie Williams – ‘Life Thru A Lens’: The Box Sets (CD & 7″ Singles)

This week on The Collection, we talk Robbie Williams. With the news of a new album and some new songs including one with Tony Iommi, I thought let’s go back to the beginning and talk about his debut ‘Life Thru A Lens”. I have two box sets of that album. One is a 4CD set and the other is 7 – 7″ Singles Box Sox Set. We go through it all and talk about the album and the songs. If you remember songs like “Angels”, “Let Me Entertain You” and “Ego a Go Go”, then come along for the ride.

So go check it out as it will be live tonight right now, July 14, 2025 at 7pm. Thanks for stopping by and please click “Like” and hit “Subscribe” as it helps out the site when you do.

Robbie Williams – ‘Life Thru A Lens” (25th Anniversary 7×7″ Box Set Edition)

After a very tumultuous time in the boy band Take That, Robbie left the group, recorded an album and went in to rehab. Robbie’s drug problem and ego problem was too much for Take That. He was tired of his creative input being ignored and was ready to branch out on his own. And branch out he did. His first album, ‘Life Thru a Lens’ was released on September 29, 1997 and though it started off slow, it would go on to great heights hitting #1 on the UK charts and selling over 3 million copies in Europe.

Now, we peasants here in the States, knew nothing about Robbie and sadly that would continue throughout most of his career. He had some moderate success with a few songs, but for the most part, the U.S. missed out on a hugely talented guy. I’m glad to say, I didn’t miss out. I discovered him a few years later with the songs “Millennium” and “Rock DJ” and I was hooked. But we aren’t here to talk about the albums those songs were on. Nope. We are here to talk about the 25th Anniversary Edition of his debut album, ‘Life Thru a Lens’ and what a box set he put together. This box set I bought when Udiscovermusic.com had a 50% off sale and I couldn’t pass it up.

What we get with this Box Set are not one, but 7 different 7″ singles. There are so many great songs on here. While Take That was pretty much ballads, Robbie was all Britpop! And he does it pretty fucking well. Not only do you have the five great singles of “Old Before I Die” (written with Desmond Child and The Hooter’s own Eric Bazillian), “Lazy Days”, “South of the Border”, the beautiful ballad”Angels” as well as the Queen-esque “Let Me Entertain You”. All fantastic songs, but the best song on here wasn’t even a single which is the angry, funtastic song “Ego A Go Go”. The box set even has the hidden track “Hello Sir” which is Robbie reciting a poem telling off an old teacher who told him he wouldn’t amount to anything…boy was he wrong. You get the whole album over the singles plus 2 bonus tracks all in the order of the album. Some day I’ll do a proper review of it, but for now, these are the Seven Singles.

And here is everything in full…

The Collection: Ep. 12 – The 45’s (Part 1)

This week on The Collection, we are going to start going through my Box of 45’s. We will only go from AC/DC to Cinderella this time around for Part 1. You will see some from Bon Jovi, Cheap Trick, Billy Idol and many more so I hope you enjoy. We even have a rare Billie Eilish Single, you read that right.

I have been collecting 45’s since I started collecting vinyl and I love the ones from the 80’s with the picture sleeves. We have a few from the 70’s as well, but the 80’s rock ones are my sweet spot. And when I see them out in the wild, I will rescue them and adopt them in to my collection.

So go check it out as it is live now on May 6, 2024 at 8pm. Thanks for stopping by and please click “Like” and hit “Subscribe” as it helps out the site when you do.

The Collection: Episode 3 – Ace Frehley

With Ace Frehley’s new album 10,000 Volts now out, I thought a perfect time to go through my entire Ace Frehley collection (excluding Kiss of course). We will go through the vinyl, the CDs, the Cassettes and the 7″ Singles.

At the end, I will give you my thoughts on the new album. Is it as good as everyone is saying? Is it as good as the ’78 Kiss solo album? You will have to watch it to find out. The show is live now, click below and give it a whirl. And don’t forget to click “Like” and “Subscribe”. While you are at it, drop us a comment as well.

Thanks for watching!!

Here is all the vinyl…

Ace Frehley – The 21st Century Singles Collection: 2009-2020 – Box Set Review

MNRK Records has been going a little overboard with the Ace Frehley collection in releasing so many different color variants of his vinyl that it borderlines on the ridiculous. How many copies do you really need. Me…one!! But they have a done a couple cool things with The Space Cassette Collection and now a Singles Collection. These are at least different formats and not the same vinyl with a different color or cover. I finally picked up the Singles Collection, but only because of a massive price drop. The set was way overpriced at $125 which I think is nuts for what you get. I saw someone post on Facebook that there was a huge sale on it and so I went and snatched a copy. The price had dropped to only $40 and now it is worth the price for what you get.

There are seven 7″ Singles all with picture sleeves and colored vinyl. You get at least one single from each album starting with his 2009 comeback album ‘Anomaly’ and going all the way up to his most recent album, the 2020 covers album, ‘Origins, Vol. 2’. Most of the albums get only one single, but ‘Origins, Vol. 1’ and ‘Spaceman’ get two singles. And I think those are two of the better albums so it makes sense to me.

We won’t go in to detail of each song, but we will post pictures of everything you are getting so you have an idea of what you are really getting in the box set in case you want to buy it. You also get a digital download card of the songs and I won’t post that picture because that is my card and I don’t want anyone using it before I do. I hope you enjoy the walk through the set.
