The Collection: Ep. 80 – October 2025 Wrap-Up

October draws to a close, so it is time for the monthly wrap-up so lets see what 2 Loud 2 Old Music added to the collection this month. This is the October 2025 Wrap-Up and we have a little vinyl, a whole lot of CDs and even a book. Plus, I visited a record store…twice, ordered from Discogs, ordered from another record store online and went thrifting. So much to go through including a couple new Rock Candy CDs in the collection, Kiss and a Box Set rolled into one. Lots of great new and old stuff to go through and show for this month so I hope you enjoy the show!!

Friday New Releases – September 15, 2023

Sit back and relax. We have one of the biggest weeks ever with releases as there are over 70 new releases this week. WOW!! As a result, there will be no videos this week as it will be too many and slow down the load too much…sorry about that. There are a handful I’m really interested in hearing. Most obviously for me is Needtobreathe’s new one called Cave…I have the CD and Vinyl ordered for this one. The others I want to hear are Core Taylor’s second CMF album, CMF2 and Brian Sezter sounds interesting to me as well. Plus I’d like to hear Demi Lovato’s new one since Nita Strauss is on guitar. My Sunday Song – “The Joker” by Steve Miller Band

My Sunday Song #113 is “The Joker” by the Steve Miller Band.  The song was released in 1973 and appeared on the album ‘The Joker’.  The song did really well for Steve and the band as it went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 110 chart.  It is probably the highest pot smoking song ever charted.

The song has this slow, laid back groove that is so cool and relaxing thanks to his stellar rhythm section of Gerald Johnson on Bass and John King on drums.  The slide guitar by Steve brings this really interesting feel to the song and when he does the wolf whistle on it, damn, it is just fantastic.  It really does feel like a stoner song and I don’t even smoke it, but if I did this song would be playing for sure.

However, the lyrics are king here. The song is famous for it’s pot reference for the chorus that goes…

“I’m a joker
I’m a smoker
I’m a midnight toker”

How could you not sing along to that.

Music is Magic – Playlist

If you don’t believe magic is real, you haven’t really listened to music.  Music can instantly change your mood.  It can even let you travel through time by taking you back to a special memory.  Music can make you laugh, make you cry and make you feel so many different things.  It can make you dance and soothe your soul.

If that is not magical, then I don’t know what is.  In honor of all that, here are my favorite “magical” songs.  Sadly, there are so many songs to choose from, I ended up with a list that only covered the ’60’s – ’80’s.  I have to do another list for the ’90’s-’10’s.
