Welcome to the last Friday of the month and the last of the September new releases. Let me tell you there are a bunch. There seems to be a little for everyone from Metal to Pop to Christian to Country to Jazz to Electronica to Soundtracks. You name it and it is probably here. I have a few I am interested in and will stream, but nothing that I am running out and buying until I have heard it first. Those choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know who you want to hear and what I might have missed as it is known to happen (quite frequently actually). I hope there is something for you. Have a great weekend.
Hellyeah – Welcome Home – (Eleven Seven Music): The band’s sixth studio album and first since losing founding member and drummer, the great Vinnie Paul. Luckily for us, he is featured on this album so fans need to grab this for that fact alone. For me, the band is hit and miss. They are hard and heavy, no doubt, and sometimes I need it that way. It will get blasted in the car for sure (and at home).
Steel Panther – Heavy Metal Rules – (Steel Panther): Yet another release by the Steel Panther. Let me tell you they don’t hold back on this one. Their porn rock has kind of grown old for me and I really wish they would do a straight up rock record that isn’t such filth. It was funny at first, now it is old and boring. I will give it at least one listen, but honestly, not expecting much…sorry guys. Seeing them live is where the fun is really at so go check them out.
Adam Lambert – VELVET: Side A E.P. – (More is More LLC/Empire): After seeing Adam with Queen last month, he earned some major respect. The kid can sing so I am eager to hear what he has to offer on this one. It is only an E.P. and not a full release, but I will take what I can get.
TobyMac – The St. Nemeie Collab Sessions – (Forefront Records): Christian pop/rock/hip hop artist TobyMac always brings it and the variety is always fantastic. This one is a collaboration album and it is eclectic choice of musicians from Crowder to LEDGER to Jordan Feliz to name a few. Should be great!
Thunder – The Greatest Hits – (BMG); The long running band is out with a 3 CD greatest hits set. Sign me up, I am in. Enough said!
David Hasselhoff – Open Your Eyes – (Cleopatra): A David Hasselhoff release!! Yes, Please!! He collaborates with Steve Stevens, Tracii Guns, Todd Rundgren, Ministry and Charlie Daniels to name some and the songs are covers of “Lips Like Sugar”, “I Melt With You”, “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Hear I Go Again” and many more. Okay, this will be a train wreck, but who doesn’t love a good train wrectk.
And then all the rest…
Sturgill Simpson – Sound & Fury – (Elektra Records)
Opeth – In Cauda Venenum – (Nuclear Blast)
Dragonforce – Extreme Power Metal – (Metal Blade Records)
Coreleoni – II – (AFM Records)
Beth Hart – War in My Mind – (Mascot Label Group)
John Coltrane – Blue World – (Impulse Records/Universal)
Of Mice & Men – EarthAndSky – (Rise Records)
The New Pornographers – In the Morse Code of Brake Lights – (New P’s LLC / Concord Music)
The Replacements – Dead Man’s Pop (4CD set) – (Warner Records)
Wednesday 13 – Necrophaze – (Nuclear Blast)
Tegan and Sara – Hey, I’m Just Like You – (Warner Records)
Renee Zellwegger – Judy (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) – (Decca Records)
KMFDM – Paradise – (Metropolis Records)
Dermot Kennedy – Without Fear – (Interscope/Island Records)
The Grateful Dead – Saint of Circumstance: Giants Stadium 6/17/91 – (Rhino Records)
The Hoff and Panther! What a mixed bag of releases. At least theres more rock here than past Fridays!
I will add that The Replacements win album title of the week!
Thanks for posting John!

I so want to hear the Hoff, only to hear what a train wreck it has to be. Yes, the rock is good this week…Hellyeah’s is awesome so far. I am a few songs in and digging it.

The Thunder album is supposed to be awesome. Might be the perfect purchase for me.

The Thunder one does look good. I might have to add that one to a growing list of Christmas gift ideas.

Big release for me today is Tito & Tarantula’s 8 Arms to Hold You. I listened to some of Sturgill’s earlier, but I tuned out. It just didn’t do it for me… I prefer his country records, though I applaud the guy for doing what he wants. The New Pornographers is the other I’m keen to check out, so I’ll hit that up at some point today or over the weekend.

Don’t know Tito. But glad you have some stuff. There is always good stuff in the Fall.

Tito are good. You’d definitely know a couple of tunes from their first album (featured in From Dusk Till Dawn and Desperado).

I’ll look them up.

The Hasselhoff one would be interesting!
And I saw a picture of Renee as Judy, that looks like a promising film – always loved Judy’s voice!

Renee does all the singing in this one I believe…no Judy. That should be interesting.

I’m totally with you on Steel Panther – it was great, it’s now old, let it go.
This week is all about Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for me, plus I’m not sure if Starcrawler’s new one is out this week, or in a couple of weeks.
