Welcome to another week of new release and do we have a bunch to choose from. We have an astounding 56 releases today!! That is INSANE!!! With that many albums, there has to be a little in here for everyone. I have a handful that I want to hear today and you will as well I am sure. My choices are in Blue. Let me know which ones you want to hear this week and also tell me if I missed any which I am sure will happen. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend.
Metallica – Metallica (Deluxe Editions/Box Set) – (Blackened Recordings): The biggest selling Metallica gets the Deluxe treatment with a newly remastered album and previously unreleased, demos, rough mixes, & live tracks. Includes a 28-page booklet. This will be fun going through and will keep you busy for quite some time.
Metallica – The Metallica Blacklist – (Blackened Recordings): This Metallica set if 4 CDs of artists of all sorts of genres playing songs of the album. You get 50+ artists and a pretty cool tribute album basically.
Welcome to the last Friday of the month and the last of the September new releases. Let me tell you there are a bunch. There seems to be a little for everyone from Metal to Pop to Christian to Country to Jazz to Electronica to Soundtracks. You name it and it is probably here. I have a few I am interested in and will stream, but nothing that I am running out and buying until I have heard it first. Those choices are highlighted in Blue. Let me know who you want to hear and what I might have missed as it is known to happen (quite frequently actually). I hope there is something for you. Have a great weekend.
Hellyeah – Welcome Home – (Eleven Seven Music): The band’s sixth studio album and first since losing founding member and drummer, the great Vinnie Paul. Luckily for us, he is featured on this album so fans need to grab this for that fact alone. For me, the band is hit and miss. They are hard and heavy, no doubt, and sometimes I need it that way. It will get blasted in the car for sure (and at home).
Steel Panther – Heavy Metal Rules – (Steel Panther): Yet another release by the Steel Panther. Let me tell you they don’t hold back on this one. Their porn rock has kind of grown old for me and I really wish they would do a straight up rock record that isn’t such filth. It was funny at first, now it is old and boring. I will give it at least one listen, but honestly, not expecting much…sorry guys. Seeing them live is where the fun is really at so go check them out.
Welcome to another Friday of music new releases. There are a bunch to choose from, but sadly I am not real thrilled about any of them. That is probably a good thing since I had so many from last week that I am still enjoying. There is one I will listen to out of the bunch (highlighted in Blue) and the rest who knows if they will ever find the playlist. Hopefully with all to choose from, there is something that you will gravitate towards. Let me know what interests you are doesn’t. Thanks and have a great weekend!!
Tobymac – The Elements – (Forefront Records): Tobymac has always proven to me he is a talented artists whether it was with DC Talk or his solo works. The mixture of hip-hop, pop and rock is always a great combination. He spreads the word and makes it an enjoyable experience. This will be the only album this week that is a must listen, the rest…ehh!.
Live – Local 717 E.P. – (Kalvary Records): It has been awhile since any new Live material and it is much needed. I heard the song below and was intrigued. This might be first up for the day.
Elvis Costello & the Imposters – Look Now – (Concord Records)
Tom Morello – The Atlas Underground – (Comandante): This one might get a listen…this song is pretty good.
Kurt Vile – Bottle It In – (Matador): Okay, maybe this one too.
David Bowie – Loving the Alien 1983-1988 (11 CD Set) – (Rhino)
Blues Traveler – Hurry Up & Hang Around – (BT Recordings)
Evanescence – Synthesis Live – (Eagle Rock Entertainment)
Nazareth – Tattooed on my Brain – (Frontiers Record)
Seventh Wonder – Tiara – (Frontiers Record)
Imperllitteri – The Nature of the Beast – (Frontiers Record)
City of Thieves – Beast Reality – (Frontiers Record)
Creye – Creye – (Frontiers Record)
Eric Clapton – Happy Xmas – (Bushbranch/Surfdog)
Young the Giant – Mirror Master – (Elektra)
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians – Rocket – (Verve Forecast)
Graham Parker – Cloud Symbols – (100% Records)
Atreyu – In Our Wake – (Spinefarm Records)
John Hiatt – The Eclipse Sessions – (New West Records)
Wow!! Some huge releases today! I can’t wait to get into some of these. I hope there is something for you as well. Sixx:A.M., Metallica, Bruno and Miranda are doing it for me today. Here is to some great listening pleasure. My favorites are highlighted in Blue.
Sixx:A.M. – Prayers for the Blessed Vol. 2 – (Eleven Seven Music): Volume 1 was released earlier this year and was OUTSTANDING!!! I have extreme high hopes for this one as well and since they have never diappointed, I expect to be blown away…AGAIN!! Could they end up with 2 albums in my Top 10 albums of the year…wait and see.
Metallica – Hardwired…To Self-Destruct – (Blackened Recordings): Metallica is back heavier and louder than ever. I was a little disappointed in their last release so I am hoping they return with some of their old magic. If the song, “Hardwired” is any indication, we might just see some more greatness.
Since I did my favorites from 2009 last week, I thought I would continue that this week for Throwback Thursday. These are my favorite albums from 2010 (in no particular order)
Paper Tongues – Paper Tongues: What an impressive debut album. They are from Charlotte, NC which I was unaware of until recently. They haven’t put out a full length album since this one. I need to see if they are still together and maybe playing around town. Some standout songs are “Trinity”, “Ride to California” and “Get Higher”. Just great songs, great music and a positive message. Rock needs more bands like this!!
In honor of a possible reunion of DC Talk (announcement coming tomorrow, Wednesday), I thought I would do a playlist of all the side projects the members of DC Talk have done outside of the band. What exactly has Kevin Max, Tobymac and Michael Tait been up to when they weren’t a part of DC Talk? Actually, quite a lot and there has been some exceptional music.
We will start with Kevin Max. Outside of DC Talk he has released 8 full length solo albums, numerous EPs, he was lead singer for one album with Audio Adrenaline and he has done countless collaborations with other artists. These are my favorite Kevin Max songs:
