My Sunday Song – “Lead Me” by Sanctus Real

For this episode of My Sunday Song, we are doing the song “Lead Me” by Sanctus Real.  Sanctus Real is a christian rock band out of Toledo, Ohio.  “Lead Me” is off the album ‘Pieces of the Real Heart’ which was released in 2010 on Sparrow Records.

There is an article from 2010 about the meaning behind the song at clashentertainment.com.  The song is about how the lead singer, Mark Hammitt, could be a better man to his family and children.  Mark states the following in the article:

“My wife and I aren’t shy about sharing that we’ve had some pretty major struggles,” admits Matt after his wife implored him to be a better spiritual leader in the family. “I think the challenge for me in the song, and hopefully for other men as well, is every time I hear it, every time I sing it, I ask myself, ‘what kind of man am I?’ Not yesterday, not tomorrow, what kind of man am I today? Have I invested in my family emotionally, spiritually the way that God has called me to reach out to them and to lead them.”

New Bon Jovi Song – “This House is not For Sale”

Bon Jovi have released a new video called “This House is not For Sale” off their new album of the same name.  The new album will be out on October 12 of this year.  I am interested in what they have to offer although their last few releases have not been good at all so my expectations are very limited.

It looks like guitarist, Phil X, is now an official member of the band and is featured on the new album.  I guess any hope of Richie Sambora coming back keep slipping away.  But I am okay with it as I am excited to see what Richie is working on with guitarist Orianthi.  Enough about that…here is the video.

Friday New Releases – August 12th

Happy Friday!!  More new releases today, but sadly, I am not interested in anyone of these. Maybe ZZTop.  Justin Moore’s album title sums it up for me – ‘Kinda Don’t Care’.  What that means for me is it is a good week to catch up on all the releases that have come out over the last few weeks.  Hopefully there is something in here for you though.

Rick Springfield – ‘Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance’ (2004) – Album Spotlight

‘Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance’ (SDAA for short) came out in 2004 and it was the album that reintroduced me back to Rick Springfield.  It had been 5 years since his last album ‘Karma’ in 1999, but I was in a bad place at that time and completely missed that album.  For me, this was his first album since ‘Rock of Life’ in 1988…16 years earlier.

I hadn’t completely forgotten about Rick Springfield, but he certainly wasn’t top-of-mind anymore.  That changed with this album.  When I heard this album I wasn’t sure who was I listening to at the time.  It was such a high energy, hard rock album that I could not believe it was Rick Springfield.  He was a pop star not a rock star.

SDAA has 17 tracks that range from 56 seconds to 3 minutes & 42 seconds.  This makes the album scream along at a fast pace and it will take you through every emotion mentioned in the album title.  Anger, however, seems to be the leading emotion on the album and I am okay with that.

The opening song, “Perfect”, comes rocking out of the gate and you realize this is not the same old Rick Springfield you grew up with. There is more of an edge and roughness to his style and voice.  That energy continues straight into the next song “I’ll Make You Happy” and gives you no time to breathe.

My Sunday Song – “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family

Welcome to “My Sunday Song”.  Every Sunday, I am now going to feature a song that moves me in someway.  It will have a positive message and most likely have a strong religious message.  I feel the world could always use something positive.

My first song is “Thy Will”.  It is off the brand new album by Hillary Scott & the Scott Family called ‘Love Remains’.  I featured the video on Friday New Releases, but I hadn’t really listened to the song until this past Monday.

Hillary’s voice was so beautiful and the words were so moving that I wanted to hear it again and again.  When a song touches me in someway, I have to hit repeat and I ended up listening to the song many, many times on the drive home from work.

There was a verse in it the song that struck me as so true and I know I have done it before as well probably have all of you.  The verse was “Sometimes I gotta stop, Remember that you’re God and I am not.”  I thought that was such a powerful statement.

Friday New Releases – Aug. 5th

I can’t believe it is August already.  This year has flown.  And it is time for yet another Friday of new releases.  A couple of albums I am really excited to hear – The Dead Daisies and Skillet.  There are also a bunch I will try to listen to as well.  As usual, all the ones I am interested in the most are highlighted in Blue.  It appears it is a Hard Rock Friday for me.

  • 61+XgETNCSL._AC_US160_  The Dead Daisies – Make Some Noise – (SPV) – The Dead Daisies are are Super Group mixed with Australian and American musicians.  There have been several rotations in the band and on this album the band consists of David Lowy (Mink), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio & Burning Rain), Marco Mendozza (Whitesnake, Blue Murder & Black Star Riders), John Corabi (Motley Crue, The Scream) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Ozzy, Billy Idol).  This should be another great release with such great musicians.

100th Blog Post – A look back

This marks my 100th Blog Post since I started back on April 17, 2016.  I am so happy to make it to this milestone.  I wasn’t sure if I would stick with it for very long and I somehow have managed to keep posting.  Now I know I am just under 4 months and that isn’t very long, but I didn’t know if I would even make it that long.

It has been so much fun and I have met some very interesting people and been to some great and amazing blogs.  The people in the blog world have been wonderful and so supportive.  The struggle for me is to be able to visit everyone’s site and leave comments.  I am still new with the whole social aspect of the blogging world as I am not the most overly social person.  I feel this is the one (of many) areas I still need to keep working at to improve.

What has been a surprise for me is how many visitors I have had and the number of countries people have come from that have visited my site.  I already have had over 850 visitors and over 2,100 views from people in over 45 different countries.  I don’t know if that is a lot, but I think it is pretty cool.

Tour Dates – Updated

I have finally tried something with my Tour Dates Page.  I have been struggling with what I wanted to do with it and I finally decided the first step was to actually have something on the page.

What I have done is put a list of bands that are currently on tour.  The bands are either coming to or near the Charlotte Area or a band I have seen or want to see.  The band name is a link to their website tour page and shows all their upcoming shows.

I will eventually think of something creative to do with it, but for now this is what I have.  I will do my best to keep it updated and if a band name doesn’t have a link anymore, they are no longer on tour.  If there are bands you would like to see added, please let me know in the comment section or email me at jts@2loud2oldmusic.com.

Thanks!

MTV Debuted 35 Years ago today – August 1st, 1981

It is hard to believe, but it was 35 years ago today that MTV debuted and changed music forever.  It also changed me forever.  When we got cable, MTV was the channel I had to watch.  It was the channel that shaped my music tastes and helped make me so obsessive about music.

It allowed us to not only listen to our favorite music, but actually get to see our favorite artists.  We no longer had to wait for American Bandstand to come on or get the latest music magazine to see the artists.  We could watch them every day, all day in their videos.

The first video played on MTV was The Buggles – “Video Killed the Radio Star”.  This was the most appropriate opening video they could have possibly chosen.  Although it didn’t really help their career as I couldn’t name another song they did.  It did make them famous forever for being known as the song that was the first video on MTV.  If you want to see a list of all the videos played on the 1st day, click on this link to wikipedia.

Friday New Releases – July 29th

July has been lackluster with the number of albums out mainly due to August & September being such huge release months.  There are some good ones coming out this week, at least I hope they are good.  The ones that have my interest peaked the most are in blue.

  • 517YSRrNH9L._AC_US160_  3 Pill Morning – Never Look Back – (Countdown Ent):  3 Pill Morning followed me on Twitter so I gave their music a listen and I have to say I am really excited about their new album.  If you haven’t heard of them, you should check them out.  What type of music, well they have toured with Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Blackstone Cherry, Saving Abel, Fozzy and others so that should give you a good idea.
