Friday New Releases – February 17, 2023

Like last week (and pretty much every week), we have a big batch of new releases for you again. This time around there a hair over 30 new albums coming out so hopefully there is something for you. We get, yet another useless, re-release of Motley Crue’s big albums. Seriously guys, can you give us new albums or maybe even bonus tracks that haven’t been released…something to justify this. A few others I want to hear (but not running out to buy) are P!nk, Skillet and Creye. I like all three so happy for some new stuff. What do you want to hear this week? Let us know and also tell us if we missed anything. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

You Pick It! Which Album to Review in February?

You, my reader, are going to pick an album for me to review each month.  It is really simple…first, I will give you 5 albums to choose from and second, you will tell me which one of those you would like to see reviewed on the site.  See…simple! Now, if you want to cast more than one vote, comment on the Twitter and Facebook post and you could get up to 3 votes on your favorite pick.

There are a few simple rules I have put in to place in my selections.  They are…

  • One has to be a new release (within the last month)
  • One has to be one I have never heard before (new releases don’t count for this one)
  • One has to be from a genre I don’t normally listen to at all or very often
  • And the last two are choices from my collection that I haven’t reviewed before

What are the 5 albums you ask?  Funny you should ask because I have those right here…

New Release – Skillet – ‘Dominion

Never Heard Before – The Strokes – ‘This is It’

Not My Normal Genre – Drive-By Truckers – ‘Decoration Day’

From My Collection – Blue Oyster Cult – ‘Fire of Unknown Origin’

From My Collection – Royal Blood – ‘How Did We Get So Dark?”

Let me know which one you would like to see and sometime in February, I will post a review of the album that gets the most votes. You have one week to decide and from there I will start listening to the album and do a review.

Thanks for participating!!

Friday New Releases – January 14, 2022

Welcome back to the Friday New Releases. This week sees a big jump in releases over last week with over 40 releases. I would say things are back in full swing!! A handful of big releases this week and a couple I am looking forward to hear and they are marked in Blue. Let me know what is out this week that excites you as I hope there is something for you. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

  • 71GZTqxu8qL._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  Skillet – Dominion – (Atlantic Recording / WEA): This Christian Rock band from Tennessee is now on their 11th Studio album and they have changed so much over the years it is crazy to think how far they’ve come. Lately thought it all seems the same so I am hoping we get something a little different with this one. We will see.
  • 715HK2Gkz5L._AC_UY436_FMwebp_QL65_  Tony Martin – Thorns – (Dark Star Records): Former Black Sabbath singer is back with another solo album. It has been awhile since his last one so can’t wait to hear what he brings to the table this time around.

And then all the rest…

What to Expect in New Music for 2022??

2022 is upon us and it is always fun anticipating what new albums will come out in the year. There are quite a few we already know about, but some haven’t been officially announced or even a date set yet.

Last year, there were a few artist I was hoping would release an album that might have or might not have released one.  It is always fun to hope for new music from these bands, but sometimes there are disappointments.  Here are the ones I was hoping to get new albums from last year and what actually happened…

  • Def Leppard – I don’t care if I get new music, but give me The Collection Volume 3 at least!!! – We did get The Collection Volume 3!!!
  • Kiss – I will keep this on the list until I die!! – We did get a Live Bootleg album in what I hope is the first of many!!
  • The Winery Dogs – Still keeping my hopes up – No Album, BUT…they are working on a new album for 2022
  • Guns ‘N Roses – Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!! – STILL NOTHING…But did get a couple singles!
  • Aldo Nova – He keeps talking about a 2CD set, but will he get around to releasing it?? After 2 years still nothing…he keeps saying its coming but I will believe it when I see it!!
  • Matt Nathanson – Loved what we got last year, but time for new music!!! I believe he finished recording it, but haven’t heard anything for a long while. – He has recorded it but Covid delayed it. It Will Be 2022!!  We did get a live album so that was cool! Now he did surprise us with a U2 covers album called Achtung Matty!

Okay, are there albums I want to see this year from some of my favorite bands that haven’t been announced or in some cases even rumored?  Of course there are.  These are the bands I want new albums from this year…but it might not happen.

  • Def Leppard – They’ve been writing…will we get the new album in 2022??  Or at least The Collection Vol. 4 which is the final in the series
  • Kiss – I will keep this on the list until I die!!  At least give us another Soundboard LP.
  • Guns ‘N Roses – Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!!  They teased us with a couple singles, is an album in the works?
  • Aldo Nova – He keeps talking about a 2CD set for over 2 years and still nothing much, but will he get around to releasing it in 2022??
  • Poison – I think it is finally time for a new Poison album!!
  • Will Hoge – His last one was 2020 so now is the time for another!
  • Billy Idol – He teased us with an E.P. in 2021.  A full album would be nice

From what I have gathered around the internet, here are the bands that should have new albums out in 2021, but no dates announced yet. The ones I would give a try will be highlighted in Blue.  The ones with Dates Announced are at the bottom of this post.  The list is building up nicely!! Friday New Releases – August 2nd

Summer is coming to end, but the heat is not.  One week (and a day) until Kiss End of the Road Tour and hopefully something here will hold me over until then.  Sadly, there isn’t much for my liking here this week.  There are a few I will give a listen, but nothing I am buying or overly crazy about.  Hopefully there is something for you this week. If so, let me know what it is and let me know if I missed something so I can check it out.  My choices are highlighted in Blue.  Thanks and have a great weekend.

  • 81lVagnI9LL._SS500_.jpg  Skillet – Victorious – (Atlantic Records):  Skillet is bringing us their 10th album and there sound has changed over the years from being heavily grunged influenced to an industrial rock sound to now a more hard rock sound.  The songs now are anthems that come at you with force and usually a powerful message.  They are a a Christian rock band who have crossed-over and are now delivering the message to people that don’t know they are getting something positive along with their rock. Great stuff.

  • 61fqYiNjiKL._AC_UL115_.jpg  Tenth Avenue North – No Shame – (Provident Label Group):  Another Christian band, but more on the lighter side with being pop melodies and great vocals.  If you need something positive, but don’t want the heavy, this is for you.  For those days I need a pick me-up, these guys can deliver.

My Sunday Song – “Feel Invincible” by Skillet

For My Sunday Song #17, I needed something powerful and heavy.  I needed something to remind my that I am can accomplish anything.  I know I wasn’t focusing on Christian artist for this set of 10 songs, but I kept coming back to the song “Feel Invincible” by the band Skillet.  The song is off their latest release ‘Unleashed’.  Plus, it is my blog and I can change the rules at anytime.

The song is great for motivating me to accomplish whatever I am working on at the time.  It reminds me that because of Jesus dying for us, I can overcome any obsticle that I face with Him by my side.  I hope you get that from this song as well.

In an article on iHeart.com written by Nicole Mastrogiannis, Skillet explains the meaning behind the song:

“‘Feel invincible’ is a song that’s about finding that one thing in your life that helps you wake up tomorrow morning, even though this whole world is going crazy. Every week or every few days, there’s another terrible tragedy or attack. There’s so many terrible things happening, and it’s easy to lose faith. It’s easy to just kind of give in to that fear. And ‘Feel Invincible’ is about finding that one thing. What is it that helps you believe in yourself? One thing that helps you believe and hope for the world. And it’s kind of an escape. That can be lots of things. That’s the beauty of music, is that it can mean one thing to someone, and you know it could be about a wife or a husband or a girlfriend or whatever. It could be about a friend, it could be about God, it could be spiritual. In my life, that one thing that gives me hope is my relationship with God. But, that’s the beautiful thing about writing poetry, is that it can mean lots of different things to different people.”

Friday New Releases – Aug. 5th

I can’t believe it is August already.  This year has flown.  And it is time for yet another Friday of new releases.  A couple of albums I am really excited to hear – The Dead Daisies and Skillet.  There are also a bunch I will try to listen to as well.  As usual, all the ones I am interested in the most are highlighted in Blue.  It appears it is a Hard Rock Friday for me.

  • 61+XgETNCSL._AC_US160_  The Dead Daisies – Make Some Noise – (SPV) – The Dead Daisies are are Super Group mixed with Australian and American musicians.  There have been several rotations in the band and on this album the band consists of David Lowy (Mink), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio & Burning Rain), Marco Mendozza (Whitesnake, Blue Murder & Black Star Riders), John Corabi (Motley Crue, The Scream) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Ozzy, Billy Idol).  This should be another great release with such great musicians.
