This week on The Collection, we are talking Def Leppard and specifically, Def Leppard on Cassette. We go through every single album that has been released on Cassette, what I’m missing and what was never released on cassette. From ‘On Through the Night’ to ‘Drastic Symphonies’ let’s walk through the Def Leppard Cassette Catalog.
So go check it out as it is live tonight right now, March 10, 2025 at 8pm. Thanks for stopping by and please click “Like” and hit “Subscribe” as it helps out the site when you do.
Def Leppard are known for taking long gaps between albums, but this might the longest. It has been 7 years since the last studio album, the 2015, self-titled gem, ‘Def Leppard’. Now, the band is back with an album that pays tribute to the era of glam rock with the likes of David Bowie, T. Rex and so many more. In fact, the title of their 12th studio album, ‘Diamond Star Halos’, is taken from the T. Rex 1971 song, “Get It On”. This is something Joe Elliott has been exploring with his Down ‘N’ Outz side project, but now that has leaked in to the Def Leppard camp…well, not really, as it has always been there. As Joe Elliott, Rick Allen, Rick Savage, Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell were all influenced by the great music of the 70’s.
‘Diamond Star Halos’ was released on May 27, 2022 and went all the way to #10 on the Billboard 200 album chart and even #5 in their UK home. Not a bad position for a band that have been around for over 40 years. And of course, I bought this album 4 times!! You read that right. I have the Target Exclusive vinyl with the yellow/red translucent vinyl and tarot card litho, but that is not all. I have 2 Japanese CDs as well. Why 2? Well, each one comes with 2 different bonus tracks so I had to have them both. And we don’t stop there. I even bought the cassette…yes, they put out a cassette with this one too. I had to have every format. Wait…hold the presses, I almost forgot. I also have the SDE Surround Sound version on Blu Ray and Dolby Atmos. So, I guess I have bought this album 5 times…yes, I have a problem.
Enough about my problems, let’s talk the album. It opens with the song “Take What You Want” which I swear is a throwback to ‘Pyromania’ era Leppard. I heavy rocker (well, as heavy as they get nowadays). Gang vocals, gritty riff, catchy chorus, it is all there. Then they glam it out with “Kick”. A poppy rock song that harkens back to T. Rex and Mott the Hoople. I admit, I like this one. Damn, is it catchy and gets stuck in your head.
“Fire It Up” cranks up the rock with some slamming riff, heavy bass from Sav and pounding drums from Allen. Joe almost raps the vocals and the chorus is layered with vocals as they are known to do. Their choruses are always huge. I have a love/hate with this one. Musically, killer…the rapping style lyrics, not so much.
As we end another month, it is time to go back and see what 2 Loud 2 Old Music added to the collection. This is June 2024 and we have vinyl, CDs, Cassettes, Singles, DVDs and even a book. So much to go through including not one…not two…but three Noble Record Exclusives. And to top that off we have some Kiss CDs & Cassettes and even a Billy Idol Floppy Disk…you read that right. So much to show for this month so I hope you enjoy the show!!

And for those that like to see all the stuff in one shot…here you go…
A few weeks back, we went through my Billy Idol Vinyl. I promised we would come back and do a walk through Billy’s first big band, Generation X. Here we are ready to tackle the Generation X collection. We go through all the vinyl I have and even throw in a few CDs and a cassette. If you like some Punk, then you’ll love Generation X. We start with a young lad name William Broad that turns in to the great Billy Idol and how he developed in to the superstar he would later become. I hope you enjoy!!

I can’t believe it is time for another monthly wrap-up of what we added to The Collection. This time around, it is April 2024 and we added a ton of stuff. Somethings we added were actually in their own episode like the Record Store Day purchases and some Kiss Bootlegs. The rest of what we added are on here.
We hit up the local record stores here in Charlotte and even down in Wilmington, North Carolina when we were on our Spring Break trip. We picked up stuff from Discogs, eBay and even from Amazon as well. It is a lot of stuff and so much in fact, there are things still unopened and haven’t been listened to yet. I think that is a sign I bought too much. But like traffic signs, I’m ignoring it too!!

And for those that wanted the BIG picture we used to put at the bottom of the post with everything in it, here you go…it is back as requested…
We are doing something different with the monthly wrap-ups as they are now going to be done in video form. Since each month I am adding to ‘The Collection’, why not show the new stuff on our show ‘The Collection’. So, if you want to see everything and hear a little more discussion on the items, go check out the video. It is live right now on Youtube, April 1st at 8pm.
You’ll get some of the usual suspects as I always seem to have a new Kiss CD and a Rock Candy CD, but there will so much more like the new Judas Priest, new Scott Stapp, some cool Psych Rock and a whole lot of CDs I picked at one store for only $2.50 each. We have vinyl, CDs and cassettes, but no 8-Tracks this time around…sorry Tim!! And you might even see some something you’d never expect me to buy. Come check it out.
If you do check it out, please hit Subscribe, hit Like and leave a message so I know you were there. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.
With Ace Frehley’s new album 10,000 Volts now out, I thought a perfect time to go through my entire Ace Frehley collection (excluding Kiss of course). We will go through the vinyl, the CDs, the Cassettes and the 7″ Singles.
At the end, I will give you my thoughts on the new album. Is it as good as everyone is saying? Is it as good as the ’78 Kiss solo album? You will have to watch it to find out. The show is live now, click below and give it a whirl. And don’t forget to click “Like” and “Subscribe”. While you are at it, drop us a comment as well.
We are doing something different this time around and going to do the wrap-up in video form. So, if you want to see everything and hear a little more discussion on the items, go check out the video. It will air tonight at 7pm on Youtube.
You’ll get some of the usual suspects like Kiss, Aerosmith, Needtobreathe, AC/DC and so much more. And I think I hit almost every format this month with vinyl, CD, Cassettes and even an 8-Track. No reel-to-reels though so not every format.
Ok, I won’t leave you empty handed in…here is everything in one shot…almost everything as the big box of Needtobreathe collectibles I bought we covered in Episode 1 so didn’t want to repeat anything…
Please check out the shot at 7pm tonight, Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Thanks for stopping by!!
Back in the 80’s, record companies would put out compilations on cassette only. They weren’t really official band releases, but the labels did it anyway. While I was at a record show, I found this tape by Cheap Trick that I had never seen before. It was a CBS Special Product and it was only available on cassette. It is called “Love to Rock” and it is a short compilation of Cheap Trick songs from 1977 up to the 80’s. This was released back in 1988 and I am sure was to capitalize on the band’s new popularity with their new hit “The Flame”, which isn’t on here by the way.
For fun, let’s go through the track list and see what they gave us. Not a bade tracklist, but might not be one I would’ve chosen, but what I do know, I’m not a suit at a record company that has no idea what the buying public really wants.
Side One kicks off with “I Want You To Want Me” from the 1977 album ‘In Color’. The first single and one of their most well-known songs is up next. “I Want You To Want Me” did nothing as a single and didn’t chart, not until it was released as a single off Budokan and we will talk about that in a couple reviews. This version doesn’t have the energy as the live version, but doesn’t mean it isn’t good. The song is a real treat as it is so playful and a finger-snapping good time. There is a some cool guitar picking with almost a country twang and a piano interlude that is fast and frenzied. The song might like the power of the live version, but you can’t deny its whimsical stylings.
Another month comes to a close so it is time for another monthly wrap up of what landed in 2 Loud 2 Old Music’s collection this month and it was another decent month, if I do say so myself. It started off with a couple of new releases. First being the vinyl for the 2nd Mammoth WVH album and I like it as much as the first one…
And the second that item that came out the same time was the new album for Rick Springfield. 20 songs on one disc and it is classic Springfield and I have enjoyed it a lot as I do most of his albums.
