Rob Zombie never does anything half-assed especially when it comes to his song titles and album titles. ‘The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy’ is a perfect example of this. The album is Rob’s seventh studio album as a solo artist and might be his opus, his masterpiece, his piece de resistance. The most badass album he has ever made and the fans might agree as it is his first album to reach #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart after its release on March 12, 2021. I think it is definitely his strongest and most accessible because his past albums usually have some strange shit, but this takes the strangest stuff and packages in a way that has more hooks, more melodies and more of everything that is great about him including more John 5 who is one of my favorite guitarist.
But before we get in to the music, let’s talk about this packaging of the album as it is nothing short of amazing. The back cover is hand-drawn space monster’s in the vein of Planet of the Apes I guess. And check out the names of the songs, nothing simple and straight forward here. The album is also a gatefold with what my one of the coolest pictures of Rob just relaxing with his arms behind his head and probably saying, “Yeah, I’m a cool mother-f’er”…okay he probably would have said the full word.
Wow, how time has flown. Summer is winding down, school is back in session and we had a big month here at the 2 Loud 2 Old Music home life. Our oldest daughter turned 18 and moved off to college the very next day. A very happy and sad time in our life. And my youngest became a freshman herself in High School. Man, they grow up so fast. And usually when I have these big moments that make me happy and yet sad, I drown that sad part in purchases and I have to say, there were a few this month and so we might as well get to it…
To start it off, the first album on the list this month is one that came out on July 30th, but I didn’t get the album in time for the July post so it kicks off this month’s post. The brand new album by Needtobreathe called “Into the Mystery” and my copy is CD. I also have the Vinyl on order but due to delays we won’t see that until November which is why I have the CD now.
Then my daughter and I were out and I picked up a few random items. First was bought at Manifest Disc in the used CD section and was something I have already, but didn’t. It was a limited deluxe edition CD with a 64 page mini-magazine of Kiss’ Monster. I have this one on vinyl, but this was too cheap and cool to pass up.
You, my reader, are going to pick an album for me to review each month. It is really simple…first, I will give you 5 albums to choose from and second, you will tell me which one of those you would like to see reviewed on the site. See…simple!
There are a few simple rules I have put in to place in my selections. They are…
One has to be a new release (within the last month)
One has to be one I have never heard before (new releases don’t count for this one)
One has to be from a genre I don’t normally listen to at all or very often
And the last two are choices from my collection that I haven’t reviewed before
What are the 5 albums you ask? Funny you should ask because I have those right here…
New Release – Rob Zombie – ‘The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy’
Never Heard Before – King Crimson – ‘In the Court of the Crimson King’
Not My Normal Genre – David Lanz – ‘Cristofori’s Dream’
From My Collection – AC/DC – ‘For Those About to Rock’
From My Collection – The Cult – ‘Electric’
Let me know which one you would like to see and sometime in April, I will post a review of the album that gets the most votes. You have one week to decide and from there I will start listening to the album and do a review.
Happy Friday!! And you made it another week, good for you. We have a ton of new releases for you this week. In fact, Frontiers Records thought you need some new albums so they are releasing a whopping total of at least 9 albums that I have listed. I have complained about them in the past as I don’t understand how they can release so many albums on the same day. No ones wallet can handle that. It doesn’t seem fair to me or the artists because people will have to choose which one they want to buy as there artists are some what the same type of genre. Now, I guess I am kidding myself because most people stream and not buy, but still the point has been made. No more rambling on and on. I only have one I’m interested in hearing this week and it is marked in Blue. There a couple my kids might be interested in so they are up after my choice and then there are at least 23 more to choose from so hopefully you will find something. Let me know what you want to hear and what I may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Rob Zombie – The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy – (Nuclear Blast): Rob Zombie is back and John 5 is still in tow on guitar. I will admit, I like Rob, but I am a huge fan of John 5 so that is the main reason I want to hear this is so I can see what new insane stuff Mr. 5 pulls out of his hat. Crank It MutherF###er!!
The ones my kids might be streaming…
Nick Jonas – Spaceman – (Island Records / UMG): One third of the famous boy/brother band the Jonas Brothers, Nick is back with a new solo album. After a successful turn with his brothers, he is ready to go back out on his own. I am sure this will be played in my house a little so not much I am going to be able to do about it (maybe I could shut off their internet access…that’s an idea!!)
2021 is upon us and it is always fun anticipating what new albums are and will come out in the year. There are quite a few we already know about, but some haven’t been officially announced or even a date set yet.
Last year, there were a few artist I was hoping would release an album that might have or might not have released one. It is always fun to hope for new music from these bands, but were disappointments. Here is who I was hoping for new albums from last year and what actually happened…
Def Leppard – We did get the Def Leppard Box Set for The Early Years and the Live Box Set London to Vegas, BUT NOPE!! STILL NOTHING NEW!!
Kiss – NOTHING!!
Van Halen – NO!Sadly, this won’t happen with Eddie’s passing. I am now hoping for archive music.
The Winery Dogs – NOTHING!! Still keeping my hopes up
Guns ‘N Roses – NOTHING!!! Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!!
Talisman – after getting a song to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the death of Marcel Jacob in 2019… NO ALBUM, we did get more Jeff Scott Soto music though.
AC/DC – YES!! We got POWER UP and it is awesome!!
Motley Crue – I thought with a Big Tour in 2020 with Def Leppard & Poison…is a new album far behind??? NOPE – No Music, No Tour thanks to Covid!!
Poison – Same as Motley statement above!!! No Music, No Tour thanks to Covid!!
Aldo Nova – He kept talking about a 2CD set, but he never got around to releasing it?? NOPE..still talking. He has released some songs, but still no album!!
Matt Nathanson – No New Music but we got a Live album and a Christmas album
Needtobreathe – YES!!! We got the incredible OUT OF BODY and it was one of their best!!
Okay, are there albums I want to see this year from some of my favorite bands that haven’t been announced or in some cases even rumored? Of course there are. These are the bands I want new albums from this year…but it might not happen.
Def Leppard – I don’t care if I get new music, but give me The Collection Volume 3 at least!!!
Kiss – I will keep this on the list until I die!!
The Winery Dogs – Still keeping my hopes up
Guns ‘N Roses – Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!!
Aldo Nova – He keeps talking about a 2CD set, but will he get around to releasing it??
Matt Nathanson – Loved what we got last year, but time for new music!!! I believe he finished recording it, but haven’t heard anything for a long while.
We see lists all the time of the best guitar, the best drum set, the best of whatever you can think of. Well, I thought, what are the best and the coolest microphone stands in Music? I did a lot of digging and it was not the easiest thing to find. When you google best microphone stands, you get pictures of the industries best microphone stands. Not the coolest or most badass, but basic advertisements selling really good mic stands. I don’t want that. So, I kept digging and digging and I have now come up with some of the coolest microphone stands in music.
We will start with the most obvious….Steven Tyler. Steven is known for walking this way with a mic stand draped in scarves and a lot of them. It is simple, but it is easily recognizable as Steven Tyler’s microphone stand.
Next up, we will go to the pop world with Brendan Urie of Panic at the Disco. It isn’t really cool or awe inspiring, it is kind of quirky. It is a microphone stand of a hand holding a mic…but at least it is not the typical stand.
For My Sunday Song #130, the final instrumental we will highlight is from John 5 & the Creatures called “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”. The song is off the album ‘Season of the Witch’from 2016 and I love that album.
The song is John 5 on guitar and for the Creatures you have Ian Ross on bass guitar and Rodger Carter on drum and what a heck of a trio you have on your hands. John 5’s guitar work is unbelievable with some killer riffs and one heck of solo. But not to be outshined is that rhythm section. Ian is destroying it with his bass fills and Rodger’s drum work all add to the craziness of the song.
The song has some Satriani-esque moments, it has some funked up jazz moments, it has progressive rock moments and it is just John 5 showing off with his full arsenal of tricks and speedy-ass fingers. Ian and Rodger turn what would be great songs into something even better. The trifecta of musicians make it shine.
For My Sunday Song #107 is going to take us out into a world that is so strange and bizarre you might never want to return. We will explore the world of Rob Zombie and his song “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown”. The song is off his 2013 album ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor’. The song did chart at #15 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks, but that doesn’t matter for Rob Zombie.
The song is in the normal Rob Zombie industrial style music. It is hard, heavy and slams a fist into your face. The main draw for me is his guitar player, the guitar god himself, John 5. John 5 is a beast of a guitarist. The sounds and his touch are always perfection and with this one there is at times a whole Sabbath vibe with some of his tone.
The song is about the state of rock radio today. What was once a flourishing hot bed of good music is dying off in droves. It changed the way we listened to music, but thanks to the internet and the digital download and streaming, the art of radio is dying off. I have to agree that radio seems to be a dying form. The problem with radio is no variety. They play the same songs and artists over and over and you don’t really discover new music on the radio anymore. That is what Youtube and streaming is for now.
Is it the end of March already? There have been so many great releases this month that I am almost wore out. I said almost! There are several more releases I need to hear before the month ends and those are highlighted in Blue. This week there is Hard Rock, Metal, Country, Pop and maybe a little for everyone. Let me know what you want to get a hold of and listen to constantly. Have a great weekend.
Red Sun Rising – Thread – (New Razor & Tie): Red Sun Rising are on their 2nd Studio album (not including 2 independent releases). The first one was a surprise discovery for me. It flew under the radar but struck a chord and now I am glad they are back for some more. They are a hard rock/post-grunge style band that just deliver the goods. Check them out.
Rob Zombie – Astro-Creep: 2000 Love Songs of Love, Destruction And Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head – (Universal Music): Rob Zombie and a live album! That is really all I need to say. I don’t always like everything they put out on a studio album, but a live album captures are all the classic Zombie sound and with John 5 and band at his side, you can expect sheer perfection in sound. This one needs to get turned up as loud as it will go. I didn’t find a video release yet promoting this album…sorry.
Let’s end February with some Zombie…Rob Zombie that is. Whether it is White Zombie, Rob Zombie solo, or any of his movies, you can never have too much Rob Zombie. At least I don’t think so. Let’s honor the man with some memes that celebrate or poke fun at him a little. I hope you enjoy.
