Back in April 2019, I was traveling in Paris with my family and I got a few minutes to visit some record stores. While in one, I found a 12″ Single for the song “Give Me More Time” by Whitesnake. And it turns out the version was the UK release. So I had to go to France from the US to get a UK single. Makes sense.
The single was the second single from the album and was released on January 3rd, 1984. It reached #29 on the UK Charts and was never released as a single in the US. And the fact that this is the UK Single it also the UK Mix which sounds different than the US mix.
The UK Mix has a little heavier guitar sound to open the song and all the instruments have a little more punch. The US version, David is more front and center. It is a fun, melodic song and David sounds great. It has that 80’s rock sound and a classic Whitesnake swagger.
The B-Side of the album is “Need Your Love So Bad” which is a non-album track and a cover of Little Willie John’s 1955 song written by Mertis John Jr. who is the big brother of Little Willie John. The song has this whole church vibe with Jon Lord’s organ playing. David comes in very soulfully and sings with such emotion. It opens with such a slow tempo. The organ get louder as the song builds in intensity and David croons along with it and then slows back down and it is a beautiful performance and so cool the B-Side is a bonus track not on the album. This is the highlight of this 12″ Single. A cool find for me.

I’ve got this too. And found a copy for Mike once as well! That Need Your Love So Bad in the UK Mix was pretty hard to find otherwise. Is that on the box set now? I can’t remember… or is it just the US version?

Deke’s right…on the box set. It has to be the UK version as I don’t think it was released in the US as a US mix.

There was a US version of it though. Keyboard instead of the church organ sound if I remember right?

Cool. Ok, I will have to listen to the box set again on that song to see which version it is.

I know it was on the previous Slide It In deluxe. I think I might have it on a pic disc of the US album too. All the different versions are confusing to keep up with!

Actually I don’t know now. I think the UK is on the box and also the 2019 remix? But I’m sure the one on the last deluxe was different… who knows. Mike will know!

I’ve figured it out!
This B-Side version is on the Slide It In box and is the “UK” mix with Jon Lord on organ.
The one I’m thinking of (and calling the US mix) was done for the 1987 album era and ended on the 87 Versions release. So that’s on the 1987 box set. So it’s really a rerecorded version rather than a remix. And that’s why it’s not on the Slide It In box. Cause it was done later.
Am I right, Mike?

I’ll take you at your word as that makes a lot of sense.

It’s confusing cause the previous Slide It In deluxe didn’t have the B-Side UK version but it had the 1987 version on it! That’s why me and Mike wanted the single cause this version wasnt included in the deluxe.

A nice change in direction John with the Whitesnake series. Every song on Slide It In is strong. Davey was on a real creative binge with Galley on this album. I really love this era of the band. One of the best.
Great writeup!

Thanks! I have another single coming up in February (maybe March) for the Coverdale/Page album that I also found in Paris. It is really sweet.

When I saw it and noticed that the B-Side was not on the album, I had to have it. Now I have it on CD too thanks to the box set.

Yep same story with me! It was HMO who alerted me where I could get the track, I had been hunting.

An even 50/50 split of band members with/without moustaches on the cover!

I didn’t even look at that ratio, but I am glad you did…that is an astute observation!!
